So GTA's going to be set in Washington DC. How do you feel about that?

Not confirmed, but seriously, look at that logo: http://www.rockstargames.com/. It'd be farfetched to think it's much else. But this isn't a "where do you want it set?" or if you think I'm wrong. The question is, how do you feel about being set in The Capital Wasteland?... before it became a wasteland. Again, let's just say it is set in DC.

Kill the president, become the president. That is how we elect our presidents in GTA.

I was making a Fallout reference (it's also set in DC) ;) And the California thing is just a rumour. It'd be lame if they did California, since they've pretty much covered every square-inch of the state.

Honestly it should've been taken out of the US entirely. I definitely don't want another San Andreas.

It would've been awesome if it was in Europe or something. Something really different.

I'll be happy if it's in DC. I'm more than tired of the west coast in all the games this year. Plus, the federal government is more than ripe for some Grand Theft Auto parodying.

DC woud be cool but Las Venturas would be better(Las Vegas) they barely scratched the surface of what they could do with it in San Andreas.

Why is it set in DC? Because the dollar five icon? As if money has nothing to do with the GTA games before. I want a GTA in the 70's. R* usually does stuff in different decades. They did do The Warriors, I guess that was in the 70's, but I haven't played it. The 70's would be cool, because there isn't any cell phones. Movies today are hindered by the fact that everyone owns a cell phone, so when the character is in trouble the cell phone has to be too low on battery life or not picking up a signal to make it interesting. Also the drug trade stories are interesting in that time, like in the movie American Gangster, Blow, Goodfellas, and Starsky and Hutch. And it has to be in America. Many people say they would like to see a London GTA. That would be neat to see, yeah, but not as a full game. All of this points to the location of, CA, TX, NY, FL, and D.C.?!

I wouldn't mind if it were DC. Then again I don't care where it is as long as I don't have to answer another in game cellphone to go on dates to the movies or go play billiards.

As long as its in a city no prior GTA has been set in, I'll be fine with the setting.

Speaking as a guy who has lived in the DC area 3/4s of my life, I suspect if it is set in DC it will be set in the 1980's. Crack hit DC hard and created Rayful Edmond (DC's Al Capone). Also, the crack smoking, corrupt, incompetent Marion Barry is certainly the most corrupt figure of the era.

Still, DC is such a divided city it would be a little weird to set a GTA there. The poorer neighborhoods are very dangerous, but the federal/tourist districts (and the small wealthy section of DC) are very safe.

Of course, setting in GTA5 in modern times could allow for a lot of political satire, but crime isn't quite as crazy now as it was back then (there are organized gangs, though outside of the Maras they tend to be neighborhood gangs and not the sort of citywide gangs LA boasts).

Personally I'd love to see a Chicago setting for GTA, but I'm fine with anywhere as long as the game holds up. I don't think we'll see a GTA set outside of the US. A big part of the series is that it's a parody of American culture as seen through American media/entertainment.

What games were set on the West Coast this year? Aside from LA Noire? Most every game that came out this year that featured a "real" location was all East Coast - with the majority of them taking place in New York (Crysis 2, MW3, etc.).

Its an honest question, as I don't remember that many games that took place on the West Coast.

--

As for DC being the setting of GTAV - I'd say I doubt it. While the city does have its fair share of corruption, the town really isn't known for its gang violence, mafia connections or anything of that nature that Rockstar would be able to "hook" onto. I'm sure locals may have a different opinion, but in the world outside of DC the district isn't really known as a violent place.

And I don't know where the connection from the logo to DC comes from either. The "V" in the logo is supposed to represent money - and if that was a hint towards its location I'd say that money isn't synonymous with DC - but more New York as that's where the Stock Exchange is and its also known as the "Financial Capital of the World". But since New York was just featured in GTA4 - THAT location is out.

It should also be mentioned that "insiders" at Rockstar have already told a couple news outlets (like Kotaku) that GTA V will be featuring a reconstruction of Los Angeles - so that means San Andreas should be the location.

GTA V: 'Trouble on the Street of London'

I'd play the bejesus out of that game.

That and the entire dev. team could warrant an all-expenses-paid 'fact finding mission' :P

Las Vegas, Miami, DC and Los Angeles would be my top picks. Both because i really want to see a GTA in those cities and because they would be most likely.

They could do Australia, just copy and paste for most of it, a gorgeous redition of the Eastern Seaboard, Tropical North, and Perth, and massive compression, and you have a continent!

they've always had fictitious cities in their games, most obviously influenced by real cities but still fictitious, kind of curious what they'd actually call Washington DC in the GTA universe anyhow, I'd no idea the new trailer is just a couple days away, good to know, guess we'll know very soon

I'm not American, so I really have no idea how you get DC from the logo. The V looks like a money symbol, which makes me think it's more likely that it's set in Vegas or something. Also, the LA thing may just be a rumour, but I get the impression that it's a credible one. I was really hoping they'd revisit Miami, though that's probably only because I adored VC and thought it was the most atmospheric and joyful representation of a city I've ever seen in any game.

I'm absolutely convinced that it's not DC though. It would be a very strange setting for a GTA game. It lacks the flamboyance and style of the previous cities, and just doesn't seem like the type of place they would even consider.

I think London would be pretty cool, though it's not gonna happen. I get the feeling they're intent on keeping the series in the US. New Orleans might be awesome for a future installment. The possible voodoo undertones, the neighbouring swamps, the jazz clubs, the post-Katrina slums... I think it'd would make for a great setting. Vegas would be nicely fitting as well.

as for me, they've done the NY setting in GTA IV, the Los Angeles and Las Vegas settings in GTA San Andreas, and Miami in Vice City, it's time for something new, while I don't think the logo really says much I think if I were to see a new setting they should go for something like Detroit, that might be interesting, but Rockstar's probably beyond taking recommendations, so I'll just be happy with whatever comes out in the new trailer

They need to set this in London or some other city outside of the U.S.

Also, L.A is boring. So is D.C.

Although I rather have it set in Las Vegas, the crime rates in Washington DC are high enough to make that setting plausible.

There is absolutely no need to rehash any old cities.

Sure. Driver: San Fransisco, Homefront, and of course L.A. Noire. New York is in too many games for sure. I'd like to visit some other places in the US like Alaska, Montana, and Pennsylvania, and of course other countries.

I think a New Orleans parody would fit perfectly. London or Mexico would be good for international spots too. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Oklahoma or the murder capital... Detroit.

You get Washington D.C. just because of the money-look to the logo? The importance of money in all GTA games aside, the US Mint also has money-producing facilities in Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, and West Point. I think Denver would be most interesting for the game.
