So how many reviews do you read about a game?

When you read reviews on a game, do you read all of the thousands and hundreds of reviews on a particular game? Or maybe just 1 or 2? Interested to hear your answers.

I usually check out Gametrailers, and that's it. Sometimes I'll check Gamerankings/Metacritic.

Gametrailers is pretty reliable, and the movie just lets me understand how the game actually plays. IGN's numbers are usually inflated, and Gamespot's reviews are pretty bad now. I don't go anywhere else for reviews though.

I typically will read the GameSpot review of a game I plan on purchasing. I might skim the IGN review and then I just look at scores from other places. Usually the score doesn't decide my purchase, but I like to get a feel of how the game is being received before I purchase it.

I read maybe 4 or 5, all from different ends of the scale.

I'll glance at the Metacritic aggregate, read the EDGE, GamesTM and Eurogamer reviews, and watch a review on ClassicGameRoom if they have one. I mostly go by user impressions though, in particular the Gamespot and Neogaf official threads - impressions from gamers who you know are like-minded are the best ones in my opinion, and excitable posters are a great hype builder. A review can only be so long, but these threads can last months and are also a great source of tips when you actually get the game. And then there's follow-up and late to the party chat.

If I really want a game before it is released, I preoder it. But If it is a game that been out for more then a month, I do extensive research. :)

Depends on how I feel about the game going in. Some games I know I'm gonna buy so reading reviews makes no difference. But if I'm on the fence, I'll read5 or 6, especially if there's a wide range of scores, to see if its a good game for me.

None. Only screenshots and gameplay footage tell me anything of value.

Not many. I usually only buy games that I will never get tired of playing. Sometimes I may not be in the mood to play, but it will be a game I always come back to. I can usually determine one of those games buy reading and watching gameplay footage of it.

I read the Eurogamer review and watch the GameTrailers and IGN video reviews.Hexagon_777

I thought this thread was only about reviews but some have mentioned scores as well so I'll add onto what I have written.

I first look at the GameRankings and Metacritic aggregates to see if the game scored 80% or more. I then check if it is a genre that I like and then proceed to reading the Eurogamer review and watching the GameTrailers and IGN video reviews.

It depends on how sceptical i am about the game. My main source of elimination is podcast impressions.

Gamespot and IGN, but I mostly read player reviews on this site and on GameFAQS.

I read a lot of the reviews here on GameSpot for games I'm interested in, but honestly, I'm still buying Xbox 1 games. I have somewhat of a general idea of what most of the games received through GS and EGM and GMR magazines. I didn't start reading GI until this generation so it doesn't really help a whole lot.

I read a few, but the ones I usually trust the most are IGN's
