MGS 2 is a great game as well, but in addition to those I would say the Kingdom Hearts games, FIFA 06, Beyond Good and Evil, one of the Gran Turismos, Sly Cooper, Radiata Stories and THPS3 are absolutely necessary to playmemphishighI played Kingdom Hearts but I got bored and watched the cutscenes online. I only liked the story. As for Beyond Good and Evil, I was looking for that game but I couldn't find it anywhere!
I don't think Ps2 games will look good on an HDTV since there is so much upscaling going on.Depends on how well your TV can upscale images I guess.Anyway you should definitely get MGS 3:Snake Eater.I also recommend Ico if you're looking for something really different and there's also Tales of th abyss if you're into JRPG's.

Find it, at all cost. One of the greatest games I have EVER played, and as a matter of fact I just dug it off the shelf for another go-through. BG&E is one of the most perfect pieces of programming to come from that gen of console, hands-down. From the story to the graphics & controlto the voice acting, it's about as good as gaming gets. I have a PS2 copy, and I wish I had picked it up for the other systems... if I can find a NGC version someday, I'll wet myself.
Kidding.
But really, it's one of my all-time favorites. Find it!
"Robot Alchemic Drive" (or "R.A.D." as it was called too) is an interesting choice... the feeling of piloting a giant robot via remote control like those Japanese serial shows from the 1960s is definitely captured in a unique way on that game... it's hard to explain, but the makers of that game got the feel very 'right' in terms of what it must be like to control something the size of a skyscraper building with weaponry. The anime filler, and the pacing of the game was what drove me away ultimately... it's kind of slow getting from pilot mission to pilot mission and the story isn't very engaging (this from a guy who's sat through a lot of mech anime, so I'm a fan of the material in a way)... but definitely a cool take on giant mecha.
Another game i don't think gets near enough kudos is "Drakan: The Ancients' Gates". The game's environments, with intricate and seamless cave systems and forests is really an achievement of immersion... it also has a good story, humor, excellent controls including a dynamic spell casting system which makes the use of magic a lot cooler than just pressing a button to unleash a fireball... one of the best fantasy games out there. Check it out if you can find it. All of the creatures look like something right out of a Ray Harryhausen movie. Really cool, and a lot of fun.
And did I mention, you get to pilot a dragon, and it actually works really well, and you can blow the snot out of things with his various breath weapons you unlock along the way? Yeah... and it all WORKS. That's the important thing...
