Yeah I know there's no such thing as a perfect game. And I haven't yet played GTA4. But for those of you who have played it, do you believe it is really worth a 10? Is it really THAT big of a step forward for the series, or does it just feel like more of the same with prettier graphics?

I've gotten about a fifth of the way through the game and it does feel similar to the old games and it does feel a bit repetitive. The graphics has improved and the number of things to do has also increased. The realism of some things has gone up as well along with a rather good story. Along with all that, there's the multiplayer which is totally new. Throw in all the new stuff and improvements, this is definitely worth at least a 9.5.

I've heard about how they created a city that really feels "alive" in the way people react and things like that, basically that they took environment creation in games to the next level, so it's apparently a big step forward in gaming as a whole. Anyway, I sure hope it's a leap forward, since you can get all 3 previous games (GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas) as a package for $30 on Steam now. :P

Depends on what you think deserves a 10.

I would give it a 10, just because it raises the bar for other games to come. It's about time a title's makers payed attention to the fine details again. It's been a long while since a game like this has been made. To long.

It's... kinda like playing Heat and Scarface all rolled into one phatty, held together with homemade honey, twisted on a virgins thighs and lite with burning roses.

It smokes nice and smooth. So "Stay Alpha!"

Btw... This isn't coming from a GTA fanboy either. This is the first GTA I'v ever played.

Brucey's one-liners alone make that game worthy of a 10.

I don't think the game is perfect, because no game is. But people REALLY NEED to let go of the idea that "10=perfect". A rating system of 1-10 cannot possibly equate to perfection, ever. I think GTA4 "deserves" a 10 because it's significantly better than the previous GTAs in pretty much every aspect of the games except the music. But the 10 does not mean perfection, and people need to let go of the obsession with number increments.

What I'll say is this:

For publications that regularly give out 10's to the top games each year, YES, GTA 4 is a 10.

For publications that do NOT regularly give out 10's to the top games each year, and instead usually dish out scores in the mid to high 9's for such games like IGN and Gamespot, NO, GTA 4 does not deserve a 10.

Its an incredible game for its time. But so were GTA 3, Halo Combat Evolved, and Metroid Prime, among others. I don't remember them getting 10's though, from places that don't normally dish them out.

I agree that a 10 doesn't mean absolute perfection, but at the same time the game does seem to have issues comparable to what pther games rated less than 10 have had (i.e Gears of War). I'm on the fence about getting GTA IV, I've never played any of the other but the open city really intrgues me and the mssions sound like fun from what I've read. I've known about GTA and the reputation it has but I think the negative publicity turned me away since the games have gained notoiety for the wrong reasons. At the same time a lot of the videos I see make the game less appealing to me, however video reviews of Sins of a Solar Empire also aren't very appealing but after playing the demo I'm thinking of getting it. Anyways the reason I brought that up was because to me, a game that gets a 10 or even above a 9 across the majority of game sites means that that people that are new or aren't necessarily into the particular genre can still have fun if they get it and ultimately feel that their purchase was worth it. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to play the game, but since there's no demo for GTA IV that's not possible. if I were to get this game and be totally amazed more so than I've been any game in awhile, then I'll agree that it deserves a 10 but otherwise but otherwise I don't think so.
