there's been five uncharted games now plus a spin off or two for the vita / mobiles

despite being some of the highest acclaimed games in the past decade they're quite divisive amongst gamers. there's many who love naughty dog's movie-like, tightly scripted game style, but similarly many that don't and are quite vociferous with their opinion of the games on the gs forums.

for me 1-3 were great but i came to them late. uc4 was the one that really knocked me for six. it was a hugely impressive experience. naughty dog stand alone alongside rockstar as the masters of attention to detail in AAA gaming in my eyes. i wasn't quite as enthralled with the lost legacy. gorgeous visuals aside, the repetition of puzzles early on sucked a lot of the life out of the game for me and it took quite some time to recover from that early tedium.

so where do you stand on naughty dog, the uncharted games and the progression of the series?

Well, I liked U 1-3 very much. Unique and inspiring locations, and lots of fun platforming and gunning action. The best adventure games on last gen for sure.

U4 was big disappointment, though. I found the locations rather dull and it just felt a bit tired. Some good parts, but I would not play it again.

So, good franchise, and very important for PS3. But they might be better off moving on, and trying to develop a completely new character and storyline for their upcoming adventure games.

I've played all of them except 4 & the Vita one... and I enjoyed them all. But I think U2 is still my favourite.

I played through Uncharted 3 on my ps3, I think Sony gave it away for free at some point?

Eh, I wasn't really a big fan. Story seemed kind of bland to me. Very nice looking game though.

I'm a huge Uncharted fan. My favorites are 2 & 4. I also feel like Uncharted: Golden Abyss is definitely one of the best games the PS Vita has to offer. The last boss fight in UC4 was very underwhelming, though. I won't lie but the rest of the game made it worth it. It probably is time for Naughty Dog to move on but I'll look back on The Uncharted Series fondly. I won't be replaying any of them, though lol

Not played 4 but 1 and 2 are one of my best games I've played. 3 i didn't finish as i didn't like the controls. I tried 3 a couple of times but just couldn't play it. I do have the tribology though for PS4 so might play it again some time and play again along with 3.

Even though it said UC2 was a lot bigger then 1 it seemed shorter. Am i only one who found that?.

@Macutchi: I remember the second game being fun, despite having some issues with both the cover and platforming. But the gun play was very entertaining.

The third game however. . and particularly the grapple system threw me off the series, it was forced and felt tacky, stripped straight from those horribly received WWE games, and doesn't help that the games pacing was sloppy. I can't think of one part of Uncharted 3 that was better than U2, not to mention the input detection in 3 was also an issue now that I'm checking my past notes.

Not terrible game, but a bad follow-up.

As for Uncharted 4. I've played some but the damage was done with U3 for me to give it a fair chance. I just assume it's at least as good as U2 overall as my personal hands-on wasn't anything overly negative and the grapple goons seem to be scrapped unless I'm mistaken.

UC1 is a genuinely meh game, bordering on bad. UC2 and 3 are more or less equal, that is to say, pretty good. UC4 is the best and is a really good game.

I only played Uncharted 2. It was not for me.

It emphasizes stuff I don't care for in a game and actively avoids the kind of things I DO look for.

nah, the game style isn't for everyone.

and it needs to evolve too if the series is to continue. the plot is always - you're looking for a treasure, but so is a bad guy / organisation. you get a step ahead of them, then there's a setback and they get ahead of you, then you get ahead of them but have a setback, then they get ahead of you... rinse and repeat until the final showdown with the bad guy.

one thing i've always thought the uncharted games do well is the pacing. i felt the lost legacy lost some of that pacing by giving you a big open environment early on. on the surface it sounds like an interesting new direction but it ultimately just boiled down to driving round to a ton of marked locations on a map, solving a puzzle and ticking them off like a shopping list. if nd are going to open the game up i'd have preferred there to be more incentive to explore, after all you're treasure hunters.

anyone else play the lost legacy?

I prefer Uncharted 3, 4, and The Lost Legacy.

I couldn't get into the first two uncharted games.

@Macutchi: I think they said the series is over. And yeah, I kinda got tired of the plot a bit too. Although I love the idea of treasure hunting. I haven't played the lost legacy one yet but I'm assuming it's like U4. Just hear a lot of people bash the game for made up reasons without even trying it.

they said the nathan drake story is over iirc, not the series. i can't see them ending such an iconic cash cow and the lost legacy showed the series can survive with a new protagonist.

and yeah there's always a bunch of dribbling knuckledraggers quick to bash a game they've never played (system wars has its fair share), but there are legitimate reasons to criticise the games (the formulaic nature of combat and lack of variety in enemy types being one of the stand out ones for me)

I don't get why these games get such high scores. If you're looking for a game with a good story - avoid this series. The storytelling is mediocre at best. The gun play is ok, but nothing special. The puzzles and platforming on the other hand are fairly good - they are a great way to break up the gunplay and action scenes and add diversity to the game.

Still as someone who enjoys good stories the Uncharted series is not memorable - its just another average game that I would only play if I had nothing else.

I have yet to play The Lost Legacy, but as of now, my favorite Uncharted game would have to be Uncharted 2. From start to finish it is just such a beautifully crafted cinematic experience -- perfect mix of action, platforming, and puzzles as well.

@Macutchi: Loved Uncharted 2 & 4, thought 1 was really good and hated 3. I still have to play Lost Legacy, but damn if Destiny 2 and my coworkers wont let me play it. Hope I enjoy LL more than you did, I'm really looking forward to that game.

don't get me wrong dude, i did very much enjoy it and i'm sure you will too. but - and it's just my opinion - it didn't come close the heights of 4, which tbf was always going to be a massive challenge for nd, and i didn't care for the open world pick-the-order-you-tackle-the-areas section early on in the game. you'll know what i mean when you get to it. still a lot of great and memorable moments but also packed full of what are now naughty dog / uncharted tropes without adding much in the way of new stuff

I really like all the Uncharted games. I like 2 and 4 the most, followed by The Lost Legacy, 3 and 1.

Uncharted 1 and 2 were great games. Uncharted 1 had a bit better gameplay, 2 had better set pieces and story.

Uncharted 3 was a train wreck. A huge disappointment and a bad game. The story was bad even for the low bar an action series set. The gameplay was very frustrating at times. The graphics were great but that's it.

Uncharted 4 wasn't as bad as 3 but really nothing special. It was just mediocre. It had some impressive visuals but the settings weren't very interesting. It was annoying that the game was always trying to hold your hand. I played it right after Bloodborne and I felt like I played on shackles. The shooting wasn't very interesting either. I have played other games with controller where it felt much better.

I've played enough of UC4 to label it a game verging on being great, but Ill need to buy it and get down to it properly one week. It has the story telling of the original series but expands upon the more open gameplay of TLOU, with tight controls and the best platforming in the series.

As for the trilogy, I'm up and down about it. The original was good for its time but controls feel too flaky now and Drake floats over the environment. UC2 mixed the cinematics of the original with a cool story, some of the best set pieces and a limited "hand hold" experience. UC3 felt too much like a playable tech demo with very little freedom across segments but adding in the mp, it was a well rounded experience.

It's a male Tomb Raider.

Not saying the game is poor quality, just saying it's not my cup of tea.

In general I think movie-games are overdone and cutscenes are WAY overdone.

not my cuppa (played uncharted 1, a bit of 2 and the vita one).

credit where its due: naughty dog know how to make a technically great looking game. if you want to show off the PS3 or 4 then you use a naughty dog game. the uncharted games are great for E3 presentations and showing off.

but sitting down to play them...not my cuppa. i got more enjoyment out of watching the edited movie versions (basically the cutscenes stitched together) than i ever did playing them. its the combat...i just really dont like it. character movement is poor and sloppy. enemies are damage spunges. camera control while aiming is meh. the weapons themselves are boring. the actual nuts and bolts of the gameplay are just pretty meh for me.

my fav bit in uncharted is the beginning before enemies start to appear. its not good when the gameplay is something you put up with to see the next cutscene.

Ehhhh. Not the biggest UC fan. I have played all the main games - IMO 4 is by far the best. I'll play Lost Legacy at some point, I'm sure, but hands down these games would be SOOO much better if the platforming was improved. They'd probably jump all the way up to "fantastic" in my book if it wasn't just point-analog-up-and-watch-him-grab-the-shaded-hand-holds

Oh, definitely Yay.

If nothing else, just play Uncharted 2. If you want more, play Uncharted 4 after that. If you still want more, you only think you do. 1 and 3 aren't so great imo.

I'd say, Yea.

I've played and finished UC1, UC2, and UC3 on the PS3. I played UC2 and UC3 in parallel and I found out I liked UC3 more. I guess that makes UC3 my favorite.

I'm also partial to the Atlantis of the sands (aka the bronze city).

Uncharted 4 is the only game I can remember it got me screaming at the TV when it got to the 1000th time I had to climb something. Not a bad game, but like a 7/10 for me.

Uncharted Drake's Fortune: I enjoyed it. It was a good introduction to the series and is still, in my opinion, gorgeous even after a decade.

Uncharted 2: Amazing game. Better controls, very vibrant and detailed graphics, lovable characters, great story, it just improves on everything from the original and is spectacular even to this day.

Uncharted 3: While not as good as 2, it was still very good. It offers some of the best graphics on the ps3 and has some of the best and craziest set pieces in the series.

Uncharted 4: My personal favorite game of the series and my second favorite game overall (only behind God of War 3). Naughty Dog has really outdone themselves. The relationship between Drake and all the other characters. Rafe's character and motives feel evil, yet still human. the set pieces, while not as many as there are in 2 and 3, are still marvelous and are possibility the best set pieces in the series. The jeep chase is of course amazing and I don't think that the tower collapse near the end of the game gets enough attention. The ending, at least for me, perfectly ends the series, even though there is talk of possibly new games in the future. Finally, the game has the best graphics I've seen on consoles so far. Combine all of that with the cheat codes and more emphasis on stealth, and you get an extremely solid experience.

haven't played Golden Abyss or The Lost Legacy yet.

Hmm, i have enjoyed Uncharted and also The Last Of Us.

So overall Naughty Dog games is great but they do seem to spiral down the pc route lately , but as long as they keep up making good games that is all that matters.

No question it’s a brillIant series. Story driven and pretty linear experiences aren’t nessicarily for everyone but only fanboys of other consoles would try and deny they’re top of their class.
