So, what do you think the probability is that Fallout 4 will be a buggy mess on release?

Don't get me wrong, here. I'm just as huge a fan of this series as the next wastelander. But let's be honest. Fallout games aren't exactly known for smooth launches. I would love to start playing FO4 day one, but I'm definitely going to wait at least a couple weeks to see what the user reports are concerning overall bugginess. If it turns out bad, well, I'll wait as long as need be until things get patched up. Bethesda has enough experience by now that I would hope the game is at least in a working state on release. We'll see.

***fingers crossed***

I calculate the odds at 110%. It's Bethesda.

I'm sure that there'll be a fair number of bugs, games like these will always have some, but as long as there's nothing too severe then they likely won't bother me. I can be very tolerant of most bugs.

Very low considering these new systems are a lot less limited compared to last generation.

I'm certain plenty of bugs will exist on release day. Cosmetic bugs don't bother me (Mammoths falling from the sky in Skyrim) but game breaking bugs do bother me. I was one of the people who encountered the "A Chance Arrangement" bug in Skyrim. Luckily I play on PC so I was able to reset the quest using console commands.

I'll see what the reviews are like but I have a feeling I will own the game shortly after launch.

If you get it on PC. It´s a PC game so what did you expect? there are literally as many configs out there as there is idiots. So of course for some it will be a mess.

But why even worry about that? this seems more like a "lets bash Fallout 4 thread" than a actual thread wanting to debate.

I think it has the possibility to be better than the past considering their comment on how it was pretty much done months ago. But it's Bethesda... I'm sure it will have plenty of bugs but I've never come across an annoying one in their games, just amusing ones, so I don't really care.

@Jacanuk "this seems more like a "lets bash Fallout 4 thread" than a actual thread wanting to debate.:"

Absolutely not. As stated, I'm a big Fallout fan. I hope for the best. I think Bethesda can pull off a clean launch. As for minor glitches and bugs, I'm more tolerant of them than most. I can look past quite a lot. One think I can't look past is a game-breaking bug: corrupt saves, severe stuttering (for me that is game-breaking), broken quests, etc. Minus those catastrophes (again: fingers crossed) I'm willing to start playing as soon as possible. Been waiting for years.

Extremely complex, open world games from any company rarely launch without bugs. Quest scripting bugs usually being the biggest challege and in a 100+ hour game there's only so much a closed beta test can discover unless you spend a year beta testing (which nobody can afford to do).

That, plus I'd be lying if I said Bethesda had a great track record in this department. Some of the earlier installments in TES were among the buggiest games in history. However, Fallout 3 and NV were comparatively not too bad.

New engine, though, so who knows?

this. consoles will likely be fine. pc will inevitably have some issues with certain builds, as is the case with most games

I think there are enough answers to say most everyone is fairly sure FO4 will have some bugs at launch. I am curious though, did Bethesda ever fix the bugs in Skyrim after all these years? Last I played I still had missions that were broken and could not be completed. I'm fine with a graphical glitch, but not the game breakers.

@suicidesn0wman: I don't know if Skyrim was ever fixed completely on consoles. Last I played it (a loooong time ago) it had stuttering issues on the PS3. It was like the system couldn't keep up with the memory after a while when the size of the save file got too big. Drove me freakin crazy, because otherwise I didn't really have many problems with the game. Still spent about 200 hours on it though.

It's using the same engine as all other Bethesda studio games, so chance of bugs is very likely (modified Gamebryo)

If word is to be believed, they've been ironing out these concerns for months. However, it's not worth believing when they've never achieved a polished game before. Ever.

Now, before someone rants at me, I can accept if you find the games fun/ very fun. I myself have enjoyed Bethesdas work.

But they are never polished. Even after years of patches and community mods. It's a flawed old engine, don't fool yourself and be so naive. Glitches await.

There will always be bugs and glitches in a game, question is how many and how severe they are.
In the case of Fallout 4, I don't think there'll be that many severe ones.

Another good question is: What's the probability of a monstrous day one patch? Cause y'know...that's a thing now.

I've never encountered anything game breaking in a Fallout or TES game, so my guess is...not likely that it will be a buggy mess.

Obviously there will be some bugs in this game, and due to its size, probably more than your average game, but that is to be expected.

Knowing Bethesda track record it will be a buggy mess and as much as I am dying to play it I am going to hold off for a week to see how bad the bugs are before I buy it.

@sirkibble2: There'll definitely be a day one patch...but since it's Bethesda, they'll be fixing bugs for a few solid weeks/months before the game is relatively stable/functional.

Extremely likely. I don't imagine they'll be game-breaking, and I'm sure we'll even have some fun with some of them if it's anything like Skyrim's launch.

I'm getting more and more excited for this game.

Bethesda's last three games have been near-broken upon release and have taken the mod community more than a year or two to fix them properly.

While people continue to rate them 95+ and sing praises from the rooftops.

And it confounds me (I love the games, only a couple years after release).

It will have bugs. That's why I'll pick it up next year after couple of patches. Getting Starcraft 2: LOTV instead.

Fallout 4's gonna be a sellout, regardless of the bugs, but Bethesda has stated that they were finishing up with Fallout 4 before making the announcements back at E3 2015 and I know I'm buying it cause I'm hype for Fallout 4 as it is. Getting the PC version.

I'm not going to play Fallout 4 until December so hopefully it will be fixed by then. One game that bugged me right away was Skyrim and the arrow glitch, but it only took them a few days to fix.

@TheHighWind: Yeah, December for me too. I think I'll pick up Divinity: Original Sin when it comes out on the PS4 to play through November in the meantime. Hopefully by December 1st FO4 is ready for me (AKA in a functioning state).

Oblivion, Fallout 3 & Skyrim were all a buggy mess on release. I dare say the games are still a buggy mess without the Unofficial Patches(mods). Not talking trash, Elder Scrolls is my favorite game series. But if history repeats itself(when does it not?), we are going to be screwed until mid 2016 or later when a modding team fixes all the bugs.

It will be working, but just not everyone. This is why PC is a pseudo-platform: no one hardware configuration is available to the software designers to sculpt their product around.

There will almost certainly be issues, at least a few of which will be quite significant. As much as I love Fallout, I'm still pretty much set on not getting this day one. It will probably be at least a month after release until I get it. I got New Vegas day one and that was a mistake. Maybe not a fair comparison since that game remained rather buggy overall and had such a short development time. But I'm still a little worried for Fallout 4. There's going to be a lot of newcomers that likely pre-ordered the game that might be disappointed to run into some significant technical issues when they first get the game.

I could be wrong and it could turn out to be fine for the most part come launch, but I think its best to be cautious and wary of the possibilities.

I never had issues with Bethesda games until Skyrim, then my luck ran out. One of the major story characters was totally broken and their dialogue didn't work. I kinda glitched my way through the main quest as a result. It was pretty game breaking.

It sounds like they are taking a lot of time to polish FO4 before release so hopefully its their best effort yet, though i'm sure there will be bugs, they are unavoidable in games of this scope
