Personally, I've never understood the obsession with exclusivity from a gamer's perspective. What's the deal?We don't want people who own other consoles to play the same great gameswe do? I just don't get it.

Anywho, interesting video.

yeah exactly. the gaming industry is a combination of many things. it has the loyalty of a mac or pc owner the branding of a fashion lover and the wallet sucking abilities of gadgets for our cars. exculsives are important, because they establish our purchase. i dont care, got all 3. also there is the various hype issues with it. look at dmc4 when ps3 exculsive, it was everywhere. then it went multiplatform and you never heard anythgin abtu it at e3.

Exclusivity means alot, if every game was multiplat then it be easy to choose the cheapest system. I like to have exclusive games, gives me a reason to choose a system.

It gives people who spent 600 bucks instead of 400 bucks some closure.

Exclusivity gives each console an actual unique identity. Plus, games optimized for a single system have the potential to be a whole lot better than those games developed cross platform. I'd prefer all games were exclusive.

What I noticed about this is that Sony's own Jack Tretton is a lot more realistic than a TON of people on these very forums about the exclusivity of this 3rd party game.

Sadly, even IF they see this, they'll still hold on to their religiousbelief that it can never come to the 360 ...

Yes thats the way it's becoming, but still Sony makes some great games in house, they have always had a few gems that made PS 1,2,3 worth buying. MS has games, and of course Nintendo has games. If you really want to get the best of gaming you have to own all the console and a good to great PC. Darn that gets expensive.

I agree that games developed for a single system tend to be better polishd than multiplatform games. However, I can see no reason why a game shouldn't be retooled and ported to another console later. I like the idea of less third party exclusives because it puts pressure on Sony/MS/Nintendo/whoever to do more creative things with hardware and push out better 1st+2nd party software.

Last gen it was so very possible. I bought a PS2, Xbox and GC all within 12 months of each other back in 2001-2002, all fairly early in their lifespans. While fanboys argued, I fully enjoyed the likes of Halo, MGS2-3, Wind Waker, the entire R&C series, RE4, Metroid Prime, Ninja Gaiden, KOTOR ... the list goes on and on. Paid less than $600 for all 3 consoles.

Now you can barely do that with one of the current systems. Gaming in general will take a hit because people like me will only own1 or maybe 2 of the current gen due to the extreme cost. This has fueled fanboyism on levels previously unseen. I find it all sad because I just want to play games, not find allegiances.

The obsession is because it means that a company can say "hey you can only get X on our console" to draw any buyers who are still on the fence. It also helps people who have the console feel justified with their purchase.

I don't hang out in system wars, but in GGF most people haven't pushed the line that MGS4 could/would never hit the X360, though some voiced the concern that going multiplatform would hurt the PS3 version of a technical level (not because of a difference in power but because of skepticism about multiplatform development) and that the loss of such an exclusive would hurt the PS3 on a commercial level.

You eventually understood and accepted (though you didn't agree with the first point) the arguments at the time they were made (though at one point you called anyone who believed single platform development resulted in better games a fanboy), so why are you distorting them now?

Yep. Fanboys deal in absolutes. Their minds leave no room for movement or compromise on a subject. Their system will "always" be the best. Exclusive games will "never" be ported. I can't tell you how often i've theorized about things only to be ripped apart by fanboys for no better reason than "because". Funny thing is, more often than not, I was right.

I think I have been in System Wars once just out of morbid curiosity. Not really my type of board. But I personally have noticed a lot of posters in the GGD and 360 boards consistently making cold, hard statements about MGS4 and the 360. Jack Tretton isn't speaking in absolutes. In fact, his statements seemed in line with things I have been saying for months. Third-party exclusivity is never an exact science.

As for your other statement, I'm quite a bit confused. Even looking at my comments on the thread you linked, you and I seem to be on the same page. If I wasn't clear about something I said, please let me know. Message board misunderstandings seem to lead to a big mess and I try to avoid that in all of my comments. But that doesn't mean I'm always successful.

I have absolutely nothing against single platform development or multiplatform development. Both have resulted in lackluster and steller games throughout the years. A comment from Infinity Ward about CoD4 (E3 Game of the Show nominee for many attendees) running at 60fps on the PS3 too really made me chuckle about the things many of us have argued about when it comes to console performance and developer abilities. We really know so little when it comes to such things. We take a little bit of knowledge and make conclusions (I'm sure guilty of it). I'm sorry if it came across that I was slamming single platform development. It can truly turn out fantastic product. But I still don't believe its an absolute. The world is far too complex and diverse to make that type of sweeping generalization.

Probably a good chance Sony has given them some moneybags and will contuine to do so. My guess is MGS4 will be exculsive to the PS3...But MGS4 substance will not. Sony is happy, Konami pockets extra money, and get two releases from it, and its on both platforms in the end of the day

Tretton has been pretty good. Especially at E3 and since. The same can't be said for that pr lead.. Dille, is it, or the SCEE executive. They're spinning classic Kutaragi.
