Across all the consoles from every generation from the western RPG's to JRPG's what is the best not a series a specific game.
I've always been partial to Phantasy Star IV, myself, though FFVII, FF, Dragon Warrior, and Zelda: A Link to the Past (which I consider an RPG) are all in the conversation.
There is no greatest RPG of all time, only your personal favorite RPG of all time.
Anyway, my favorite has to be Crono Trigger, it was my first RPG and i just love that game, i also love FFVI, FFVIII, ToS, etc, but Crono Trigger is a very special game to me, thanks to this game, i love RPGs.
Not even remotely enough Dragon Quest love on this thread.
For me, it's between Dragon Quest III, Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VIII, and Earthbound.
If it counts; World of Warcraft is one of the most expansive and well-thought out worlds made in gaming I think. But in terms of more traditional RPGs; Super Mario RPG, Final Fantasy 1, the Paper Mario series. I don't play enough RPGs to really make a great list; but I play a few...
That's odd, for me once I get started I can't stop until I complete it.For me it's Chrono Cross. It's one of the few RPGs that have kept me playing until the end.

Final Fantasy VII (7) i still have not found another game that beats its story or its turn based combat

Fallout 1 in 3rd
the Elder Scrolls VI(4) in 4th
and Fallout 2 in 5th
i still haven't played Chrono Trigger or the first 5 elder scroll games but i know Chrono Triggerwhoudereplace elder scrolls IV andmaybeeven Fallout 1
haha that was my first RPG, I LOVED it. it's such a funny & fun easy RPG with beautiful graphics. Greateast for me, though is... FFVII.Super Mario RPG
