Yeah this E3 seems a huge disappointment for RPG lovers (Single player) like me. Maybe i am missing some news but what i gathered from various news:

1. Nothing from Bethesda i.e. no news about next TES.

2. Nothing from Bioware which means no Dragon Age (According to Mike Laidlaw tweet few days ago next DA game isn't even in development yet which is extremely disappointing considering DAI was released over 2.5 years ago.

3. I haven't heard from anything from CDProjektRed so no Cyberpunk

Well these were some of the biggest RPG names i had in my mind but its disappointment so far. Apart from Divinity Original Sin 2 releasing fall this year (which is already in early access for around a year) i see nothing interesting for RPG lovers this year or even next year coming out considering we had no reveal this E3. It was all MMO's and VR crap and remasters.....

TES 6 isn't even in development at Bethesda but they are working on a new sci-fi RPG, which won't be shown until it's close to release so give it a couple of years. I was hoping that Bioware's mystery new IP would be a single player game but it's Anthem and even though it looked good, it's a Destiny/Division type of game.

It would be nice to see even the smallest sneak peak into DA4 and Cyberpunk but we got nothing sadly. So yeah not much for RPG lovers. :P

I hate to say this but many of the current RPG are a down grade when you compare them to older RPG

Right now the only hope is paid mods.

Agreed, most of the old school stuff is coming from Obsidian or Larian these days, even in new Fallout games Vegas was the best IMO.

PoE was fun so was Tyranny.

Divinity Original Sin was fantastic and 2 seems improvement over 1 in almost every case.

In action RPG's, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen was one of the best new RPG i have played in a very long time, i do hope we get sequel to it some day.

Bethesda's RPG's are good only due to their superb modability and replayability and well anything coming from CDprojektred from the last decade is pure gold.

No mention of Ni No Kuni 2? First one became a classic. High quality jrpg's are few and far between. Ni No Kuni 2 is definitely a game to be excited about.

I would love paid mods by Obsidian. New Vegas show what some paid mods can be like.

I think Bethesda is good at crafting the world itself. IT is a shame they been reducing the role playing in them.

CDprojektred... I think they are bit to praised but I did quite The Witcher 3 because I did not enjoy it. I just do not like the way the game play.

I only played Xenoblade and I did not like it. I find action RPG to be poor as RPG and as action games.

Did we watch the same trailer? Oh. . did you mistake Frozen Wilds for MH:W? I see :)

I agree though, Frozen Wilds does look like a Horizon rip-off. It could have even been some tacked-on DLC with about four months development.

I joke, sure someone will buy FWs. Aloy has a new hat :P

There are some bits of RPG news. Apart from those already mentions, there is a small DLC for Tyranny out now and an expansion coming later this year. Also a big gameplay chunk of Vampyr was shown. I hope that one turns out good.

Not E3 news per se but Elex was shown recently. Combat looks a bit clunky but the world is interesting. It's by the creators of Gothic and Ryzen. The Gothic franchise are underrated masterpieces but Ryzen, which is more recent, didn't fare that well.

All in all it was a pretty bad E3 for RPGs.

now lets forget our troubles with a big bowl of strawberry ice cream!

the horizon dlc trailer was really underwhelming, i'm with you on that. the question is will monster hunter be good enough to crack the western market?

Good enough? Most likely. To gauge interest? Time will tell. But does it really need to? I'm not really going to lose sleep over it. MH usually sells way over its budget and estimate worldwide, even being one of Capcoms best selling franchises, so getting countries like US and parts of Europe approval isn't essential.

A great game will always be a great game, and hopefully some in those countries give it a chance instead of buying the yearly dudebro shooter or sports game.

Already made a thread about my unanswered questions for MH:W and to be honest I didn't think much of the last two MH games (X series). On the gameplay and content scale they're a downgrade.

If World has been in development for awhile now I have confidence, everyone knows X and XX was rushed, but. .

Well either-way I'll get it day one, I need to know for myself how it plays, and if G-rank is a thing. But what excites me is new people to play with online, got a whole bunch on my PSN that have never given MH a chance and most are very excited for World :)

Have you ever played Kingdom Hearts? I feel that it easily ranks pretty high among RPG's in general and I really love how smooth and responsive the controls and combat system are. If you haven't you might wanna check it out.

I think action RPG's are fine as long as the game is STILL an RPG. Fallout 4 being the example of action gone too far that you can hardly call it an RPG. Don't get me wrong, Fallout 4 is still a good game but i don't consider it an RPG.

Oblivion was good, Skyrim got dumped down a bit in favor of more action oriented game play but its still fun and its still an RPG.

True RPG means all number games and strategy not how good you are with a rifle or sword (that's what FPS and adventure games like Farcry are).

disagree. the release on xbox one and ps4 is a sign of intent that they are very much wanting to crack the west. the xbone in particular has barely sold in japan

@Macutchi: Nothing really to back up such speculation. They're probably just taking advantage that the licencing agreement with Nintendo has ended. And using all the platform possibilities they can for this new project. After all this game clearly has a much bigger budget than previous MH games.

For me a RPG is more about role playing game play. This includes meaningful player control character growth comes from and that includes gear, stats and abilities. Respecing does ruins it.

This lead to what your character(s) is good and bad at. The problem with the action elements is that it more about what you the player is good at. It is hard role playing a character when they are actively diminishing the same character.

I didn't like the story but I'm happy you enjoy it. One of the worse part is there a people trying to claim that turn base part of gaming is now out of date.

the xbone has 0.2% of the console market share in japan. if that version is to be a commercial success it isn't going to come from japan. they're not going to just release the game on every platform because they can

@Macutchi: And yet you can get Biohazard 7 on three platforms in Japan despite those numbers. I always found Capcom to have mixed reaction to spreading IPs. However based on a e3 interview today with PC Gamer Tsujimoto Ryozo san stated "the World project is a sign of the teams now possible freedom to take the franchise as far as they can in scope and platform"

He continued with they loved working with Nintendo but have wanted a larger project for a long time. It's also worth noting Monster Hunter: World name was chosen to theme MH5, World having five letters. Confirming this is the true sequel to MH 4.

Lastly two interesting finds in the interview, regular coop at the Hut is confirmed to return (a feature that let's you hang out and chat while preparing your gear and even funny mini games). The flair is simply to add coop mid-mission. Also all previous weapon types and core mechanics are in World. They have no intent of stripping features. Only adding thanks to the new possibilities.

So if you somehow wanted Monster Hunter to have a Western reboot in the vein of DmC or Bionic Commando (2009) prepare for disappointment. It's simply the Monster Hunter everyone knows with better tech and some new ideas. Not a revamp.

The way I see it MH team are excited and trying all possible platforms, if World doesn't sell on Xbox? They simply won't get a sequel.

@RSM-HQ: i read somewhere it wasn't a true sequel, more an offshoot. i'm not an expert on the game like you so i'll take your word for it ;) i'm looking forward to it, i'd like to see what all the fuss is about. i'd still argue it's a very different game in terms of popularity to resident evil so comparing the two in terms of platforms and regional sales isn't all that worthwhile

@Macutchi: The X (Generations) series and Stories are the last Spin-offs in Monster Hunter. I've read what you have as well, but the source I found was whinny Nintendo Fanbois in denial. I like 3DS MH games but it's sad to see some Nintendo fans putting words in the developers mouths as a desperate call to take merit away from World.

If Ryozo san says it's the next main entry. That's all the proof I need. Though usually I like the Spin-Offs as well. X series and Online being the exception.

I don't know if World will be the greatest MH of all time, but I'm willing to try the game and see how it stacks up. Not write it off for lacking the Nintendo logo.
