So what's the deal behind the Legacy of Kain series? As video games, any good?

Great voice acting and writing are aspects that are complimented and remarked upon a lot.

What about the gameplay, is it anything to write home about? I read that they are action-adventure games essentially, but how do they play like?

There are a number of games to the series already so it's difficult to know where to start, how many entries, and basically just getting an overview of what the series plays like. Is it hard?

This seems like such a lesser known series that I wonder how many are familiar with it. Just in general, I'm wondering if the games are easy, if they're fairly simply and user friendly like a Zelda game would be, or if they're one of those difficult, challenging games (which I usually want no part of).

In essence, I'm just looking for an overview of the series. Some information from the mouth of gamers instead of just news sites.

They're great games, and strangely diverse. Te first game was more of a top down RPG-lite, Soul Reaver was more an adventure/puzzle game, and Defiance was a straight-up action game.

The games are all propelled by their interesting characters and lore, along with moody locales. It really is a great series.

Defiance was an action game, but with some puzzles thrown in and a lot of backtracking. Even so, I don't mind the backtracking or any of it, because Defiance was such a good action/RPG of sorts and I enjoyed every moment of it. Soul Reaver definitely had a lot more puzzles...you fought sometimes, but not as often as you like, and when it came down to the boss fights, they weren't hard to figure out and provided little challenge. But what kept me going, for all three games, was the story. Even Blood Omen 2 as well, but it really wasn't the best one in the series, despite some good ideas it had...it should have been made by the same folks that worked on the original LOK.

In short if you want the best overall experiance play blood omen and the the two soul reavers . Script is so good its almost shakesprian. Blood omen two is a simple side story and can be avoided. Defiance is not great but does tie up the last part of raziels story.

You could just watch the cut scenes on you tube for the last game though.

How would you rate difficulty? I hear they're somewhat challenging games? Any frustrating elements? Any desgin flaws? How about the games themselves, any glitches or slow down or bugs and problems?

The puzzles range from simple to obtuse. Most are just clever enough to make you feel good when you solve one, but Portal they are not. The difficulty in gameplay is pretty easy I felt. Hell, in Soul Reaver it could be argued that you can't die, not really anyway.

Of course they are. I think the peak of the series was Soul Reaver 2 but you may enjoy other ones as well.

Since this basically amounts to a recommendation thread of sorts, I have to ask that you redirect this to the recommendation sticky. Sorry.
