Now I know alot of people were disappointed in Phantom hourglass...but if the reviews gathered so far are any indication this game is a significant improvement. There's no backtracking in the central dungeon, there's more sidequests, and apparently it becomes alot more challenging after a few hours in (compared to PH's piss easy difficulty anyway)

here's Gametrailer's review (9.0)

as well as a bunch of gameplay videos

I actually liked Phantom Hourglass. The main game was decent, and I enjoyed playing the WiFi vs. mode it had.

If Spirit Tracks is better than PH, then I will love ST!

I might pick it up via Future Shop/Best Buy's buy two get one free sale, as it sounds like they fixed the main flaw of Phantom Hourglass - the Temple of the Ocean King. That repeated dungeon was so bad I never finished that game, and managed to completely mar an otherwise good game.

I'm one of the many Zelda fans who kinda gave up on the series in the last few years. I played Phantom, but it couldn't keep my interest, and was so disappointing to me I ended up trading in my DS. :(

I got rid of my ds recently because I just became bored of it and wasn't playing it.

Legend of Zelda just doesn't interest me anymore. I remember back on the NES when the first one came out. It was a wonderful adventure that captured you.

Then LoZ 2 came out and well if Link to the Past hadn't of been so good I would of abandoned the series right there.

The last ds LoZ game burned me out especially since I didn't like Twilight Princess,Wind Waker,Minish Cap,Four Swords, those two Zelda GBC games.

I'm not saying they were bad, but I just haven't enjoyed a Zelda game since Majora's Mask.

Maybe this one would of been the one that recaptured my spirit, but really it just doesn't matter to me anymore.

I don't know; I thought that Phantom Hourglass was kind of poor, and I'm just hesitant to plunk out cash for another DS installment, especially one that looks so much like the original. The problem from Phantom Hourglass that nobody acknowledged--combat was boring.

Heck, the entire game was boring to me.. felt like Zelda lite. Twilight Princess is the first Zelda game that's come out that I didn't feverishly play and finish. And since Wind Waker, which I had to force myself to finish, the series has slowly been losing it's charm. At least to me.

I think Twilight Princess' problem was expectation versus reality. It was a standard Zelda game that deviated only for particular missions. I think the expectation was, especially after its first playable E3 showing, was that the game would delve a lot deeper into the new elements, such as horse-back combat and the wolf-mechanics. They were well-implemented, but they were merely distractions from standard Zelda progression. It's still my favorite game because its game design is terrific. It would have been more favorably received, I think, if it had launched in a different context.
