So...the James Bond games. Forgetting about Goldeneye, why can’t someone create a game that is its equal??

Curious as to why that hasn’t happened in over 20! years. I understant the appeal of Goldeneye 007. Its my favorite game of all time. But as James Bond fans, we need to live in the here and now.

I say developers really go out with the next Daniel Craig movie-game tie in and do something as special as G007. But, what do you think?? Am I hoping for too much or thinking too hard about something that’s probably not going to happen???

@outworld222: Both options. James Bond is dead. So don't count on it.

Are you dead set on James Bond? Because if you make a game based on a huge license like 007, you need to sell at least 5 million copies in order to turn a profit, and that means pandering to the lowest common denominator, which leads to linear and simple shooting games and nothing more. A game with Goldeneye's structure is far too complex for today's general audience: you have non-linear objectives to complete and actually have to use your brain to find out where to do what.

Now if someone made a spiritual sequel to No One Lives Forever, which requires no costly Hollywood licensing, and targeted the PC market, that could work swimmingly.

Years ago they had some GoldenEye: Reloaded game for the Wii, 360, and PS3.

Never got around to playing it so I'm not sure if it was any good or not.

@outworld222: Since the success of Goldeneye N64, every bond games has essentially been a boring FPS. I'd love to play a 007 game that had a more stealthy spy vibe to it, similar to Splinter Cell style. My dream would be to see a Bond game get developed by the Far Cry team and we could see a master piece 007 game. Goldeneye N64 became a curse for all of 007 and none of them didn't come closer as to what Goldeneye bring. But I will say "Tomorrow Never Dies" 007 game was fun on PS1 but it sure didn't aged well compare to Goldeneye.

Activision lost their license after the failure of 007: Legends and shut down Eurocom, the Studio behind the majority of Bond games over the past decades after Rare Goldeneye N64.

Tbh, GoldenEye: Reloaded was pretty cool... I mean, It was basically Call of Duty: 007 Edition but I liked it :)

noooooooo!

unless you mean the far cry 1 team ;)

don't let ubisoft anywhere near it unless you want that lowest common denominator, quantity over quality, open world design by committee shite they peddle

Alpha Protocol is not only it's equal, but a better game all around.

Or are you looking for strictly James Bond only, and not espionage/spy games?

There have been a lot of good James Bond games over the years. I'd even say Nightfire on the GC has aged better than Goldeneye (though it was not as revolutionary at the time to be sure). Also enjoyed Everything or Nothing, and have heard good things about the Wii Goldeneye but never played it.

@mrbojangles25: no I’d be down for a non James Bond game. I’m fond of perfect dark for example.

It sucked and was definitely not deserving of the Goldeneye name that they whored out to it just to try to make some money off of people's love and respect for the N64 Goldeneye 007 which this game plays nothing like. This game was just a Call of Duty game with a James Bond skin put over it.

There are some awesome scenes in various bond films, which I always think that would be fun.

@Random_Matt: that’s exactly what I’m thinking!!! Some developer must be able to take advantage of that??? Well maybe not.

Probably because the developers were given more a a free reign back then to take risks. Now, they run everything through a committee and new ideas take longer to emerge.
