Hey, I have a stack of PS1 games that I play regulary (Tekken, Cabela's Ultimate Deer Hunt, Warhawk, Gran Turismo) and when I play them, some of the music in the games skips a lot. Whats exactly causing this?

I bought a new laser/disk unit from ebay - makes games work like new. Obviously if a game disk is badly scratched its going to have problems, but otherwise you can kiss goodbye to those music/fmv skipping issues! Only cost about £8 or something.

Why is what I said LAME?I'm pretty certain that your real problem is the console overheating from a badly designed heat vent on the bottom of the console, sound skipping was a common issue on older PS1 models back in the day. The infamous solution? Put the game in and play the console upside down, I kid you not, it helps with airflow and works like a charm:P
Hey man, do you mean the PSONE slim models, or the fat PS1's?
I do not like the placement of the vents on the ps1, since heat rises, and they are on the bottom of the consol. But i just bought mine.

so the guy is trying to help you.....but you call him/what he says lame?? congrats, you have shown the maturity of a less then clever 4 year old. now to help you, since it is happening on multiple games, it is likely the console itself the old PS1 models were well known for having various issues with the laser unit, mostly the really early models check what unit your PS1 is (the model number is on the underside of the console) , if its part of the 1000 series , then there is a chance that the console is simply broken and I wouldnt even bother trying to fix it, since the whole arrangement and build of the console make it prone to breaking down. Id suggest going online and finding a model 7000 or 9000 PS1, which you can get for very cheap and will most likely work alot better then the old one. of course, if your PS1 is one of the new ones, then simply replacing the laser unit will probably fix it, although you could try cleaning the lens first.I mean the older phat PS1s. The phat PS1 got better heat shielding through the years as Sony learned about it, luckily I got one of the later models. Early on though it wasn't uncommon for people to flip the console to get it to work, and sound and FMV skipping were the destinct specific symptoms of an overheated console.Hey man, do you mean the PSONE slim models, or the fat PS1's?
