Hai Guyz,

So I recently played FFXV, and I was a tad disappointed that it wasn't a bit more like Grand Theft Auto or Dragon Age. At the very least, FFXV was better than XII and XIII. However, the VII and X are still my favorites. 15 years ago, I wished Western games were more like JRPGs, however I feel like Square has kinda lost it with the storytelling.

Anyway, here is a list of things I feel like FFXV should have done:

1.) Have conversations in the car- GTA IV and V did this plenty. I feel like the Regalia in general was heavily underutilized in this game, although for the purpose of this thread I will try to stick with storytelling.

2.) Loyalty missions, personal sidequests- FFXV was 90% fetch quests or side quests. Iris and that one kid had a few quests, but it would have been nice if some of the quests were somehow related to the characters.

3.) Romance Iris- Seriously, Noctis is about to get married, it would have been awesome if he got some before he tied the knot.

4.) Random conversations- I loved these in all of the Dragon Age games, because it not only developed the characters, but gave the player a glimpse into how the characters interacted with each other. There were a few exceptions, such as Prompto mentioning that he went to high school with the other three.

FF XII is the best of all the FF games!

Anyway, apart from that, I agree with you that a lot of Japanese games are stunted in their story telling these days. Dated even. They just have not developed he same way as the American and European developers have advanced in every aspect, including story telling.

If you played FFXV with the expectations of having a similar game to GTA or Dragon Age, then no wonder you ended up being a bit disappointed,

The 3 games have nothing to do with each other and while sure they are some what open world, they are their own game.

Not sure I'd have GTA IV & V as the example of good storytelling in games...

And why is that?

GTA IV is by far the best story in any GTA game ever, and is widely recognized for that.

I will kinda agree with GTA V but looking at the overall idea of 3 protagonists , it was a pretty well made story.

Both are pretty lousy in terms of their story, their story telling, their characters, their plots, but gun to my head I guess Rockstar's bullshit inherently has more upside.

I'm just saying compared to other games, those games don't really stand out for having great or well-told stories. They're OK.

Hmm,

I would agree it´s not the absolute best, but particular GTA IV had a awesome captivating story within the GTA universe. But there are better out there for sure.
