I always do that thing with smellin the inside of the game case or the instruction booklets. A few weeks ago I just planted my face in the instruction booklet for Final Fantasy Crisis Core and sniffed the glossy paper.

Smelling. I do it all the time, even with old games. I was just smelling LittleBigPlanet today. :P

I'm sure I've been known to smells the cases at some point, but I quickly learned that DVD cases don't actually smell very good. I don't collect any stickers. I do always try flushing the toilets, but only out of the developed instinct to interact with every object that has an interact function. I don't give heed to mirrors. I think they're a stupid gimmick that wasn't impressive coding in the first place. I don't feel any sense of ownership over the act of unwrapping a game. I haven't really encountered enough game light switches to say this for sure, but I don't think I bother mucking with in-game light unless either the room is too dark or I'm exhausting possibilities in a cryptic puzzle. Maybe I'll dismember a corpse if I'm frustrated and seeking something that I can break without consequences. Otherwise I'll move on to more living targets. I frequently take out controller batteries, but not out of irrational obsession. I've grown accustomed to wireless controllers and have a piece-of-crap battery charger.

I started to chuckle at the toliets and mirrors thing....and then i thought about it and realized i do it all the time. and the 1st to open thing i go crazy over. Like not even just for me if a friend lends me a game before they've played it I try and make sure they open it before they give it to me.

Cookigaki never done any of those habits. Cookigaki always use the toilet first before playing a game, Cookigaki do not understand why Cookigaki does it. It's just Cookigaki routine of gaming.

1) Smelling new packaging - CHECK 2) Security Sticker saving - Nope. Never cared too much for the security stickers...
3) Toilet checking in game - YEP! I do flush all the toilets and have since Duke Nukem 3D...
4) Mirror checking - YES! - I'll also try and shoot out the mirrors. If they don't break minus points for attempted but FAILED realism. 5) I open the game - Correct. My wife even knows not to ask anymore. 6) Light Switches - They are too hard to find. I usually don't bother... but I will try to shoot out the lights. 7) Corpse Dismemberment - Nope... I still miss sprites... 8 ) Remove batteries - YES! but only from the crap I don't use very often. Wiimotes, Fake Drums... The wiimotes so drain out batteries, because every time you accidently bump anything on it it wastes power trying to connect to the mothership... annoying. I would add that I check the back of the disc. Even if it is brand new and I just opened the packaging, I check the back...

Unwrapping it, and dismembering in Dead Space...nothing says "you just got pwned" like footstomping each limb off. :P

When playing F.E.A.R. I enjoyed destroying every computer monitor, picture, and pane of glass I saw, I just did, I could go completely out of my way to do so. I smell game cases, flush toilets, and check mirrors, I don't save the stickers though, those things go straight into the trash.

I do check the mirrors, toilets, light switches and on rare occassions the dismemberment if it's there.

Wouldn't call it strange, just a way to see if the developers has slacked off on somewhat nonimportant things.

Edit: Oh and the unwrapping thing, Unless it's a gift, someone elses or I've given permission, you do not tear off the plastic and play it before me.
Doing so is a health risk.

xD

Depends. When I'm at work I'll look at the instruction manuel. Aside from that I just open the game and throw it into my console. I also take the plastic, make it into a ball and rap it up with the sticker that keeps my case shut.

I've done almost everything listed besides collecting safety stickers. Too weird. Smelling manuals, though, it's truly a gentleman's pleasure.

I smell new cases and booklets, funnily enough the last one I did was RFG just like in the picture 8)

I also look into mirrors, if there are any.

One thing that I do that wasn't mentioned in the article is clean my room, I hate sitting down to enjoy a nice new game and being bothered by any mess around.

Yo, Rob-Belmont, I do the same thing! Except its my living room, since I have my own house. I can not stand stuff being in the vicinity of my tv, or any other clutter. This is crazy, I thought I was the only one lol. My wife thinks its weird, well...it kinda is I guess.

Strangely enough, I don't do most of those things, beyond the occasional absent-minded smell.

I have manners even when playing a video game; when I am in the bathroom, I flush the toilet, wash my hands, and turn out the light.

Do you really think I would shoot a fallen, dead enemy in the Head, the arms, the legs, the crotch, the rearend?

.

.

.

.

yes, I do that - the coupe de grace - have some lead for breakfast you dead sob

Hmm funny they didnt list my strange ritual I do when I buy a new game. All I will say is that the hole in the center of the disc is JUST the right size. *whistles innocently*

Smelling the box of a new game is a must. Everything else on that list isn't a ritual for me.

I've done just about everything on that list short of collecting the stickers. I also check the disc under a light for scratches or filth or anything. I typically smell books when I buy them too. There's nothing like the smell of a brand new book. Oh, and I usually read instruction manuals on the crapper.

The strangest thing I do is read the manual. I think people who do odd things are like game collectors. I have alot of games but I'm not a collector. I'm just a guy who plays games. The only joy I get from a game is when I'm playing it.
