YES!! Oh yeah! There is a god! Thankyou Gaming GodS!! And thankyou Yoshinori Ono at Capcom. I mean that with all my heart.
It`s a bit fuzzy in head my but i believe the year is 1990 or 91 (i`m old so i`m not to sure). I`m waiting in line with alot of other enthusiastic kids my age. I`d played the coin op and had my bum handed to me on plate. But now i would level the playing field. Cause Street Fighter 2 had come to the consoles. Now was my time. See the mistake i had origanlly made was thinking because i had played the orginal Street Fighter(when cassette was the blu-ray) that i would have adequate skills. I would not make the same mistake again.
I finally made it to front of the store and entered my first ever Street Fighter tournament....! I hadn`t mastered the Ha Do Ken yet and was so faraway from getting the Dragon Punch right. But i knew you didn`t need them if you knew how the kicks and punches right. Plus i`d discovered the combination glitch.
My first stood over me. He was two taller then me and probably twice my age. My heart sank. He chuckled to himself, looked down at me and, as i pick Ryu, he said "this should be short lived" and picked himself Chun Li. His mistake was he had underestimated. I floored him in two rounds. It`s blur but i didn`t get much further. Beaten in the end by the dreaded Chun Li.
I had alot Japanese friends at the time so came under regular creaming. but i learnt so much from. When i entered a Super Street fighter 2 tournament i Domanated. I came second to i guy working Nintendo called Metro.
So whats my point? I can`t think a game that has enspired enthusiasum like Street Fighter 2 since. We`ve more street fighters, we`ve seen 3D/2D equilavent. And as great as some of them have been none of have stood the time or are as memorable as the original Street Fighter series.
So if you haven`t already. I urge you to take a look at Street Fighter 4. Welcome SF you`ve been missed.
