Welcome to Street Fighter V's HALL OF SHAME!!!

If you've played SFV, I'm sure you're aware of the rage quitters. Capcom has managed to catch a few RQs, but there are plenty more out there. I encounter them on a daily basis. RQs come in all ranks and if you happen to encounter a RQ, please save their fighter ID and post it here.

Also, if you happen to have a video of the RQ leaving the match early, please share. This is a problem that effects the entire community, so please do your part. Below are a few members I've encountered

I've played over 50 matches, haven't encountered one rage quitter yet. Guess I've gotten lucky.

If people want to quit the game, isn't that their right? I don't think it's fair to penalize someone for 'rage quitting' if you don't even know the reason why they left.

@Starshine_M2A2: It's not and here's why...if you beat me in a match and I rage quit on you, you don't get those LP points. Without LP you can't move up the ranks. Also...let's say I'm a Gold ranked player and you're a ...bronze. If I beat you, I only get 5 points because you're low ranked...but if you beat me, then you get 200-500 LP and that's just from one match.

That's why people are up in arms about it. Were all trying to reach the mountain top and rage quitters are making it twice as hard to do so.

This is like my first fighting game ever and the competition is so fierce even at rookie level! I'm struggling to even get the shoryuken motion right haha. I get to max 400 LP and drop back down like crazy. Sometimes it gets pretty depressing losing so many matches, I think my win rate is 22 %. Wish there was single player content for me to blow off some steam before I get back into the fierce online matches.

But yeah the fighting mechanics are so solid and every character feels so unique and strong in their own way. It actually removes any complaints I had about having only 16 characters because every one of them is so deep and require extensive practice to learn.

I understand the frustration (and it can be pretty frustrating) but with a little practice, you'll be winning matches left and right

Yeah, it's also worth mentioning that an individual match of Street Fighter has a typical max duration of about 5 minutes per. If you can't commit 5 consecutive minutes to online gaming, then you shouldn't be playing online. But occasionally emergencies occur and you may have to step away during a match, but there are two point there. One, if you have to do that then you don't have to quit. You can (and should) just take the loss. Secondly, the systems that fighting games use to punish quitters don't go after the occasional quitter, they go after people who constantly use quitting to avoid losing points.

As Louixiii described, people use disconnects to cheat the system of point exchange quitting just before they lose to essentially fake their own record. You could be a terrible player, but so long as you are capable of winning at least occasionally, you can cheat your way to the top of the rankings. This is why they need to enact punishments, and previous versions of Street Fighter and most fighting games ship with some sort of built in enforcement system out of the box. At the very least, many fighting games at least show you the disconnect rate of other players during matchmaking so you can choose to not enter into a match with a player who has a high disconnect rate.

It's not like it's something that makes me angry. I reserve anger for things that actually happen in real life, but Capcom needs to address the problem because not punishing rage quitters results in their ranking system basically being completely useless and the fact that they didn't factor this in for launch is an even bigger oversight than just missing some single player and offline features.

@Byshop: I couldn't have said it better myself. The crazy part is that I encounter a rage quitter everyday. Then, it's a battle to keep your LP up because the match making system is so random. It seems like as soon as I finally hit a milestone, they put you against a tougher opponent and boom...you're back to first street...that's why it's so important to play fair. If I lose then I lose and you earned my points...but if we meet again and I beat you but you rage quit...it's so frustrating and that has happened to me so many times. And while Capcom says that they're working on the issue...I'm not so sure because I encounter the same people day in and day out

@Pedro: If you were a Chess player and Chess was your passion...it becomes more than just a game. It's a passion. For some it's Sunday night Football or Soccer but SF is my passion and it's hard to make a name for yourself if you're constantly getting cheated out of LP

Rage quitters ruin the games for other people and I believe they should be punished. If you can't handle losing in a game then you really shouldn't be playing with other people online to begin with.

@louixiii: Yeah, I finally got up to around 1300LP. I haven't had too much bad luck with rage quitters. In all my matches I think it has literally happened twice. In SF4 it used to happen -all- the time, and also my player feedback went into the toilet when I started playing SF4 on XBL because tons of people will neg feedback you if you beat them and they decide they don't like that.

@Byshop: Wow...I actually had to pawn my entire collection of last gen consoles back in 08-09 so I missed out on a lot. I had SF IV though and remember the rage quitting, but it wasn't to this degree. I get at least 1 or 2 people that rage on me literally every time I turn on the PS4. It's the only game I play now (I know...sad lol) and it never fails.

Oh...one of my buddies is gold rank and he's been helping me get better. If you want to spar with us sometime you're more than welcome to. We're training for EVO next year.

Nice. I see you're silver ranked. I'm up to 1600 as of this evening. Lag free matches make all the difference.

@louixiii: But how do you know that they're rage quitting? Unless you're communicating with them over voip or IM, there could be any number of reasons why they left the game. For all we know, they could have been interrupted by something. If they starting punishing users for leaving games without fully investigating them, they'll end up punishing innocents.

I already explained this. Matches are five minutes long at most, and if you don't have -that- much time to commit to an online game then what are you even doing online? Even if you have to stop playing because of some emergency, then just put the controller down and don't rob your opponent of the victory just because you can't finish the match. Even still, occasional quitters won't be punished. Just the people who are obviously making a habit of it to try to game the system, and those patterns are very easy to see (i.e. a player has only wins and quit sessions).

@louixiii: I'm only bronze, roughly 600 points. The match making kills me, I'll get on a decent roll and then the next 10 matches its guys that are a league or two above me and are on a huge win streak. I play as Necalli, ID probably be better as Ken but I see way to many people using him and Ryu.

@Byshop: That's good stuff bro. I was ultra bronze for a while before I made it to silver. Lag free matches makes a world of difference, but even under those conditions you're pretty tough. I know you'll be silver ranked in no time. Once you master stringing Ken's med and light attacks, you'll be damn near unstoppable.

@Starshine_M2A2: If you have a flawless connection and then it drops right at the end of the match...9 times out of 10, you're dealing with a rage quitter. And even if a person have to immediately put the controller down due to an emergency...there's no reason for the actual connection to go kaput lol

@vfighter: First, let me address the match making in SFV. IT ABSOLUTELY SUCKS!!!

I had to get that off of my chest..but it's true. They'll put you against people on your level or weaker for a match or 2, then they'll send people that are 2 or 3 levels ahead. Then you're like.."am I being punished?" lol or "why do they keep putting against these people that they know are WAYYYYYYYY more experienced?" It gets super frustrating. Here's a tip...in survival mode, you can set the training dummy to cpu. Once the dummy is a AI, you can up the difficulty. Then practice, practice, practice because you've selected a good character.

Necalli is a vicious opponent. His defense is tough and his attacks will eat away at any Ryu or Ken player quick. It's just learning how to string his attacks. Once you do that, you're gold. His shoulder charge can move through normal fireballs and land a hit. Also, he a inside character. Once he's on the inside, it's a wrap. Only a super experienced Ken or Ryu player can escape, but most will get crushed (self included lol)

Stick with him and if you ever want to train, my Fighter ID: LouiXIII and PSN: born_hero_III

Thanks. I've been noodling around with different ways to harass people with mixes of attacks. Here's a match I had from last night.

@Byshop: That was a good match. I saw you mixed up your run-high and run-lows. It was really random and looked hard to predict which is what you want. I like the way you keep your distance. You have a good idea of the range you need your opponent in which is just as important as technique. The next time we fight, I can see you handing me my ass with those fakes. My high/low predictions aren't the best but I'm working on it xD

Grappling characters are tough, which is why I mostly kept to just simple power movies instead of trying for more complex combos, most of which involve getting closer and giving the opponent more time to react. Ken doesn't have a lot of great combo openers from a distance that I've found. Even his D+MK, Haddoken combo is actually blockable on the second hit if you're too far away when the kick connects, and it doesn't have anywhere near the pushback that it used to. The best reach I've found seems to be with his kick target combo (MK, HK) but hit connects high so if the opponent is crouching it will miss altogether (I think it happened in that match, actually). Basically I play Ken in SFV like how someone would play Guy in SF Alpha or (I assume) SF4.

@Byshop: Bro, you must learn the way of the grapple and incorporate it in your strategy. It's key to over coming big characters like Zangief and Birdie as well as tricky characters like Nash and Karen...those it's a bit harder to catch Karen players lol but it is effective against some. And that kick target combo is risky business but some people pull it off really well. The more comfortable you are with it, the more you'll hit your target. Against players like me...it's actually pretty effective (shhhh...don't tell the world lol).

And the days of Alpha was something special. Alpha was probably the best SF series there ever was and possibly ever will be. You just brought back some great memories.

The kick target combo is good if you are following up another attack, and I think it comes out a bit slower than the punch one so it gives you more time to decide what you are going to do when you get to the end of it. It also does slightly more damage than the punch version. You just have to make sure that you either start the target combo after you have already connected with something you can chain (like jumping FK) or that you abort if the first kick whiffs because it's a pretty safe bet you'll get hit with a low attack if you try to finish the combo.

@Byshop: Good point. It sounds like somebody is becoming a beast with Ken. The other day I ran into a terrible losing streak. I had my ass handed to me so many times it was ridiculous. I was so pissed, but I'm back up to stat now. I had a long day and not much sleep that night anyway. Oh, and one of the guys that quit on me got hit for 1000LP. He told me karma caught up to him and added me as a friend on PSN xD How crazy is that?

Thanks. I got knocked down a few notches as well. Last session I didn't get a single opponent who was anywhere near my LP, but at least when I got beat by a high silver or gold I only lost about 10 points.

Nice on the rage quit karma. That's awesome.

@Byshop: Yeah but I have 2 more to add from last night lol The rage quitters never stop for me. I guess I'm getting them for a reason. If I was looking from the outside in, I'd think I was making up people for my channel, but these are actual people lol It's crazy

Are they intending on patching the game in the future? To combat this?

How is this thread not locked? For all we know these are people whose connection dropped, and they are getting shamed on a public forum?

Here's a question about rage quitting I'd like to bring up, is it actually rage quitting in your opinion if the other person's connection is HORRIBLE.

I was playing a match today (3-5 is the lowest I'll play against) and this person connection was bad, lime he was teleporting around the screen none stop. I lost the first round and decided it was BS because of the connection and turned off the game. I felt bad but at the same time if your connection is that poor you shouldn't even be playing online or you're doing something to make it that bad.

Thoughts?

Well, most played probably wouldn't call that rage quitting but no guarantees how Capcom views it. Although there are no automatic penalties for rage quitting in the game right now, Capcom is going through and manually nerfing the scores of serial rage quitters, but I have no idea how they define a rage quitter. I doubt a few disconnects here and there will get their attention, but in the interest of not being vilified by other players I would recommend that if you -are- going to do that, then you do it early in the first round before your opponent gets the advantage. Quitting while you're behind makes you a rage quitter, even if it's because of a bad connection.

When you see someone disconnect right at the end of a match they've just lost it's hilarious.

@Byshop: Yeah, I turned it off after the first Rd. Never played a match that laggy so I thought I might be able to work through it, but damn that's nearly impossible. From now on if it's anything like that I'm out right away.

So noticing something new lately with online fights, seems a lot of people are getting bad connections bit only after I win a Rd. Like if they win the first Rd and I win the second both rds being lag free, the third will be a mess, are people doing this on purpose, its happened to many times to be a coincidence.
