Introduction
Far Cry® 2, the next-generation first-person shooter from Ubisoft, will take you deep into the most beautiful but also most hostile environments in the world: Africa! More than just a visual and technological achievement, Far Cry® 2, the true sequel to the award-winning PC game, will provide you with an unprecedented gaming experience.

Caught between two rival factions in war-torn Africa, you are sent to take out "The Jackal," a mysterious character who has rekindled the conflict between the warlords, jeopardizing thousands of lives. In order to fulfil your mission you will have to play the factions against each other, identify and exploit your their weaknesses, and neutralize their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning and, of course, brute force.

Open World
The extensive artistic research combined with the next-gen engine will allow you to explore over 50Km2 of seamlessly rendered African landscape. No game has ever provided such freedom of movement!

Dunia Engine
The Dunia Engine was built specifically for Far Cry® 2 by the award-winning Ubisoft Montréal development team. It delivers the most realistic destructible environments, amazing special effects such as dynamic fire propagation and storm effects, real-time night-and-day cycle, dynamic music system, non-scripted enemy A.I. and so much more…

Real-Time Immersion
Real-time story telling, systemic auto-healing, minimal in-game interface are just few of the features that will make you feel the tension of being alone against barbarous warlords that threaten thousands of innocent lives.

Weapons of Choice
Choose from a wide range of weapons to make your way to your primary target. Meet the fight head-on with your machine-gun, go berserk with your machete or make stealth kills as a Sniper. If you feel that the atmosphere is not warm enough, light up your flamethrower and let your enemies and everything around them feel the heat.

Vehicles
Fly, Drive, Run, slide and hover over the huge open world with your glider, trucks, cars, boats and much more.

Reviews

Reviews have been very positive, I'm sure you can find them by yourself if you feel a need to read them but I won't post scores just for the sake of posting them as they don't really say anything. One thing I've noticed is that magazines focusing on PC games tend to give the game better reviews than console magazines. The single new feature I'm the most excited about in Far Cry 2 is described very well by PC Gamer UK:

The basis of Far Cry 2's story telling: Characters and situations are swapped via a software author, its responding to choices made by you the player. Its something that's been on the cards for some time - mostly in research projects - but this is the first high-profile game to use it.

Its nothing less than a revelation. What makes this procedural storytelling cool isn't that you get to play the game lots of times, and see new things happen, or do things in new ways, Its not even that it gives you stories to share, situations to compare with your friends. Its that the game just works and responds to your successes, failures and **** ups.

If you don't like what a guy is asking you to do, then don't do it… If you really like one of your buddies, you stick with him. When the situations force choices on you… By God, its incredible.

I upgraded my computer specifically for Far Cry 2, I'll pick it up in about 5-6 days unless it's sold out by the time I get there.

Incidentally, this game will be on sale at Fry's when it hits next week -- $52.

Right now, every penny counts.

Far Cry 2 was the last game I was expecting I'd end up buying to see how it advances storytelling in videogames, but I guess it's one of the games I'm getting.

i didn't care for the first one so i was hesistant about the sequel, but from the looks of it i can see myself having a lot more fun playing far cry 2...it's really a shame though that this is coming out amongst a flood of other anticipated titles so this might be something i'll get further down the line...

So far, I like the first one more than this one. I'm not sure if I'm digging the Sandbox style for a shooter. It's definitely something different.

Within the last year, yeah. I could probably stand to add a gig or two more memory, but it's still a pretty decent gaming machine.

This is a game I have to buy, no way i can experience it all in a rental. Same with Fallout 3.

Indeed. I really hope the game is as open-ended as the previews/reviews make it sound. And the map editor should be awesome as well.

Do you have the game already? I'm not sure about this one, the first was pretty but I thought the game was just mediocre. Then I played Crysis which was beautiful but again, I felt the game was lacking in some important gameplay area's, but the AI was very tough. Crysis also seemed too short.

PS I see you are playing it now from your gamer card. where did you get it???

My wife is a manager at Gamestop and they all got free copies earlier in the week. It's nothing like the first one from what I played of the original. Visually I was a lot more impressed when I played the first one than I was with this. Of course this one looks better, but it's not the leap that you would expect although the draw distance is amazing. I've only got a few hours into it, but it just seems kinda boring. The sandbox style is cool for those who like it, but I don't think it's for me. It's definitely different, and that's not a bad thing, so if you're looking for something different give it a shot. I'm going to give it some more attention this weekend so we'll see if anything changes.

In an attempt to revive the thread I'll break my own policy and post a new review. It's Eurogamer's.

"Ultimately, the most immediate reference for Far Cry 2 is not Crytek's original, but Deus Ex (Invisible War, sadly), in the way it presents interesting ideas, often slightly heavy-handedly, and features a gently saggy seriousness that can sometimes come at the expense of pacing. The result is a fascinating game with successes and failures that are both equally mystifying; one that rebuilds its story regardless of how badly you mistreat it, and yet struggles to spice up a simple escort mission. Far Cry 2 is unforgettable rather than perfect, then; brilliant, frustrating, sombre and comical, it offers freedom within extremely curtailed limits, and strives to treat its players like adults. In the end it remains, true to its source material, a game that was born to struggle with itself."

IGN's review is up. They give it an 8.8 for the console versions and an 8.9 for the PC. I'm really tempted, this game sounds right up my alley.

IGN Australia gave it a 9.1.

Im too interested in the free form story telling and open world design to pass up on this game. It sounds like a great experience and kinda fresh for a FPS game. I see it does have some flaws, but they seem relativley minor compared to the overall package. Look forward to it.

Why does it matter that the scores are the same if the written review makes it clear that the PC version is better?

Well if the PC version is better it should be clear as day and be rated higher in my opinion.

Yeah dude, do it! I would, but I tried that Toys R' Us deal hoping that I could just exchange everything for games that came out later, and lets just say that I won't be able to exchange things for a while at my local Wal-Mart.

I really like what I've seen on the game and the reviews seem quite favourable so I'll likely pick this game up but probably not until sometime later, possibly January. Right now I'm looking at getting Fable 2, Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, and Red Alert 3 first then I'll spring for Farcry 2.

I am with Ragnar, is anyone playing this? Is this the game that will get lost in the madness this year. I love what I read in the review, sounds like a really amazing game, 30+ hours, huge open FPS world, sweet! I need to wait since me have no money.dvader654

one review compared it to Stalker, only they said without all of the bugs, and better graphics...Sounds amazing enough to me.

 @ GME... alright, I finished up some work, had some dinner and played some Far Cry 2. Here are my impressions: Work was alright, dinner was good and Far Cry 2 is pretty goshdarned great. Graphically I'd say it is better than most any console game I've played, especially when considering the scope of the game. The fire is amazing. The anticipation that builds as you sneak up on whatever target you are supposed to attack is great, I can't wait to get some silenced weapons and a sniper rifle as it seems like stealth is the best way to tackle your objectives... although a flamethrower is great if you prefer a direct approach. Setting fires and watching the chaos that ensues is really fun. The highlight so far was when I went around a corner too fast in a jeep and slammed into an ammunition stockpile that blew up, taking out the tires of the jeep and sending bullets flying everywhere. My computer died and I am posting from my PS3, if anyone has any questions I'll answer them later, but for now I'm off to play more.
