When i play games especially long games like open world such as Skyrim i tend to take long brakes and go back to it a couple of weeks to months later. When i do get back to them i always forget where i left off and forgot what happend and start again which i have done this a couple of times with skyrim and i have not compleated it and other games. Do you take brakes and find yourself starting from the start or do you continue until you complete the game. More and more games are going to be open world in the next couple of years do you think i should play one game and complete it be for moving on?.

Thats why I always play 1-2 games at once and than move on. So I don't forget too much about the story but at the same time have some variety.

But in the past id never go back to a game after a long time and start over, ill just continue on and eventually start to rememeber the story.

I usually restart, but for games like Skyrim or Minecraft, if I feel like I need to take breaks, that means I must be tired of it. I took a "break" from both of these and haven't played them since.

*Breaks

I never really find myself taking huge breaks over the course of weeks or months. I may just sign on and play something for a few minutes every now and then, but I never quit for a week or more (unless I'm not home or something)

For long RPGs I tend to wait until I have a long stretch of time where I can power through them in a week or three. If I don't then I just let them sit, and come back to find that I don't remember where I am or what I was doing and tend to restart.

I do restart sometimes, but most games don't have such an in depth story that I have trouble picking it up again. Something like Skyrim is easy to jump back into I feel.

I took an 8 or 10 month break from Minecraft. I started a new world with the latest update and got immediately hooked for another 60+ hours.

I like to finish single player games before I move on, unless I'm just not enjoying myself enough. Occasionally I'll get pulled away from a game (usually by another game) and I'll forget what was going on and have to start over. This is what happened to me with Bioshock Infinite. Still haven't finished it, but the prospect of having to restart and therefore re-search all those damned drawers and trash cans over again has kept me from going back. And I'm too OCD not to check every container....this is just a franchise that is not made for my particular psychoses.

But also MMOs...i'll routinely take long breaks and go back. Just part of the genre there. I was on and off with Guild Wars (technically a CORPG, but with MMO type addictive qualities) for six or seven years.

What about just writting a summary of what you've been up to in the game and what's beenn going on at the end of your game before one of your breaks.

I don' t take breaks. I start a game and finish it before moving on. As far as Skyrim is concerned though, I finished the main quest and left a bunch of sidequests for some other time(also planning to get the DLCs once they drop in price).

Take it and play it a game at a time. It's the best strategy.

Some games i do that with, but i usually stick to one or maybe two games at a time and finish those. You should just focus on one or very few games. That way it gets easier to finish games

I recently made the mistake of playin RE Code Veronica X. Taking a break from it for a few weeks and having absolutely no idea where I was, how far into the game I was and what I had to do next. I still don't actually. You need to keep going with old school games like that.

I try to stop myself from taking breaks. However, after putting a bunch of hours into skyrim and other games, I try to find a way to close the game and make a new way for new games to be added to my memory of best games in my life time. Sure, you can never forget the classics, but, I wouldn't wanna miss out on anything that could give me a good amount of feels T_T

For Skyrim (just to use the same example) I always end up coming back to it, but yeah, before I got the DLC I forgot what I was doing and it took a while to get back into the game.  The DLC definitely helps keep the game more focused.  I find this more of an issue with shorter games, especially when I get a few on sale, as I start to play them all at the same time and one or two gets put to the side even though I started it, and then going back to it can be a bit confusing.
