dude!
Yes saving Yorda every few minutes was annoying, but it's one of those things where it doesnt really affect the overall experience you're gonna have with the game.
Did SOTC's framerate issues keep you from enjoying the game? i ask this because a couple of guys here couldnt stand it. But if you weren't affected by the shortcomings of SOTC, Ico's problems (it's VERY short) aren't going to bother you that much. It's just a wonderful game. I bought it for $60 back when it came out just because Gamespot gave it a 8.5 (lol those were the days!) and i dont regret it at all. I still fondly look back at those 6-8 hours* i spent with the game, and that's saying a lot.
*i got stuck at quite a few puzzles, but it should take you around 5-6 hours on the first run.
P.S Since SOTC is supposed to be a spiritual prequel to Ico, you might actually enjoy it a bit more since you played it in order unlike most of us who played Ico first then SOTC.

There were noticeable framerate dips here and there, and the visuals looked a little jagged, but that has never been an issue for me unless it significantly effects the gameplay (Odin Sphere comes to mind with the slowdown, and that was pretty annoying). I was much more impressed by the fluid animations, soundtrack and the general sense of scale when it came to tackling these beasts. You can really feel the force behind some of those colossus attacks, and the way the main character reacts and moves when struggling to stay on when attacking was really impressive. Really, the biggest annoyance for me was simply trying to locate them because that became a little dull by the half-way mark, and how your horse apparently steers on its own from time to time.
I'm not much of a double dipper, but I think I might bite should this prove to be true. If I'm going to be paying $40+ for Ico, I might as well get both with HD-ified visuals to boot. SotC is certainly worth a second playthrough at least.
