I just got my Genesis and I need some good games to go with it. Please don't reccommend any of the Sonic games, as those are pretty much a given with a Sega system. I'm just looking for some of the best games on the system (preferably not the ones that i'd have to sell an arm and a leg to buy  ) Thanks

Ristar is an a amazing platformer that everyone should own. Gunstar Heroes, and both of the Vectorman games are good too.

well old school sega games aren't really easy to come by and the really good ones aren't gonna be cheap. i always enjoyed the shinobi series, shining force 1 and 2 and the phantasy star series were always good. also the xmen game for it was great. if you like dungeons and dragons theres a game for genesis called warriors of the eternal sun which is a AD&D game based on the 2nd edition ruleset. it'd help if we knew what kinda games you liked.

For stuff not mentioned, try Maximum Carnage. X-Men 2: Clone Wars, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Ranger X....particularly that game. Ranger X is a personal favorite of mine, pretty challenging game too.

I wish I could eliminate that lame game (Max carnage) out of my mind.

The only reason i own a sega genesis is for one game. SHADOWRUN!! I would probably get the mutant league games, speedball, skitchin(its like road rash only on rollerblades lol), I was thinking about getting toe-jam and earl games. That was so long ago im not sure if I understood how to play those completely. Dungeons & Dragons: Warriors of the sun or something like that. Lastly there was this game i cant get out of my head. I didnt get to play it very much but it seemed really awesome at the time. It was this fantasy kingdom game and you got to have ogre's and fairies, and all these other wierd units, and they faught on this map..... I dont know the name of it but man I would love to replay that game cuz I only have good memories of it.

Most of the essentials have already been mentioned. If you ever come across a game called Rocket Knight Adventures. Great side-scrolling platformer.

Master of Monsters? No Fairies or Ogres, but there were Angels and Trolls...

Even if not, I can't help but recommend it. I'd also like to reiterate Mutant League Football, Shining Force Series, and Phantasy Star Series.

Hmmm no i dont think so. The battlefields were sqaure and they had walls all around them. Your units started on one side and other guy started on the other..

Edit* Hmmm I think it was King's Bounty but all the picture's I have seen of that game dont really bring back any memories. Anyways I added a genesis games list section to my NES game list lol. I didnt own a genesis but i did rent it a few times. Here are the games i put in it.

Budokan
D&D Warriors of the Eternal Sun
Hard Drivin'
king's bounty
M1 Abrams Battle Tank
Mutant League Football/hockey
Shadowrun
SKitchin'
Speedball 2
Syndicate
Toe Jam & Earl 1-2

Duh, how could I forget King's Bounty? I played that game to death! Fun, but let me be the first to tell you that it has the MOST repetitive music I've heard in any game. I'm pretty sure it's a 45 second song that's looped throughout the game.

Toe Jam & Earl is a clas-sic of epic proportions. I still play that with my son and daughter every now and then and they LOVE it.

Ecco the Dolphin

Ecco the Dolphin 2: The Tides of Time

Those two are probably the hardest games I've ever played...and also my favorites :D
