All of those games are the essentials except maybe legend of dragoon and dino crisis.

I think it's funny when people ask the best PS1 games are, people post a slew of RPGs. Yeah, sure, the PSX is a central hub for RPG classics but there are other games. Such as:

Man if I were you I would stay away from final fantasy 8 and 9.They are both highly over rated in my opnion.Still you should check out Final Fantasy 7,chrono cross,Final Fantasy chronicles,and anthology,Castlevania symphony of the night,Tekken 2 or 3, crash the bandicoot 1-3, and fear effect 1 and 2!

the only game i can still play and it's still awesome is Metal Gear Solid.

but my favorite series on the PS1 (although I hated them on the N64) were the Gex games.

another good one is the original spiderman, it was prob my very first open world experience in a game, and I LOVED it.

tomba and Tomba 2 (or Tombi as it was sometimes called), any mega man game, then all of the RPG's that have been repeated multiple times :D

The original Persona was pretty bad imo. Terrible gameplay.

Thought I'd add Vigilante 8 to the list.

My first choice for favorite PlayStation game is Twisted Metal 2, but Vigilante 8 was a nice close alternative.

I'd also mention Gran Turismo 2, Jet Moto, Jet Moto 2, Soul Blade, Tekken 2 and Tekken 3 :)

Final Fantasy 7/8/9, Metal Gear Solid, Grandia, Crash Bandicoot, Lunar 1 and 2, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, spiderman 1 and 2, teken 3, Breath of Fire 4, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, soviet strike, Rayman, worms world party, Resident Evil 1/2/3 (3 is my favourite).

The PSX has so many great games, and so many people like such different stuff. My faves include

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo

Soul Blade

Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter

and the other classics already listed here.

To be sure however if you haven't, you MUST play Metal Gear Solid on the PSX, DC, or GCN. Repeat, you MUST.

All I'm going to add is Bushido Blade. If you like fighting games this one is completely unique. I remember staying up all night playing this game with my friends almost every weekend when I was a kid. It's definitely not for everyone but this is the one ps1 game I wish I had.

Just got a ps1 recently eh?

well i got a ps2 but i still play Gran Turismo 2, Metal Gear Solid, and CTR (crash team racing)

Spyro Year of the Dragon is a very good platformer.
CTR (even though its a Mario Kart knockoff) is a good Mario Kart like game.
Gran Turismo becuase 1 and 2 are the best games in the series imo. (i miss the burn outs, drifting, and colossal power sliding in the old GT games)
Metal Gear Solid well...just play it its freaking awesome
and Crash Bash is a pretty awesome party game

wait and Supercross 2000, the actual drivers, good ps1 graphics, actual supercross courses,anddont forget the moon and jupiter gravity settings.I wonder why EA stopped making the series? (ps2 version would be sweet)
