Link.

We reported late last year that a Dreamcast Collection was being released for the Xbox 360, PC and digital download, but we now have a proper release date – and a list of the games making up the collection.

The Dreamcast Collection will be making its way to Australia on February 25, and the games in the package are…

- Sonic Adventure
- Crazy Taxi
- SEGA Bass Fishing
- Space Channel 5: Part 2

While every single game on the list is solid in its own right, I can't help but think that SEGA has chosen… poorly on this occasion – to the extent that I would guess that SEGA has many more Collections on the way. The Dreamcast has a pretty much unrivalled back catalog of incredible cult hits, so we figure SEGA could squeeze out as many of these packages as they like.

What four games would you choose for the ideal Dreamcast Collection? Let us know in the comments below.

I would have thought that with the Megadrive/Genesis collection being so much more generous in both quantity and quality that the Dreamcast collection would at least be equally so. This doens't seem to be the case. In fact, Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are both already available for digital download on Xbox 360 and PS3. If they are including those exact games in the collection - than it doesn't seem like they're doing much for the gamer dollar. Perhaps if they used Kinect/Move for Space Channel 5 and Sega Bass Fishing there would be more interest, but count me disappointed. Are they saving some of the better titles for future Dreamcast collections?

Ewww...In my opinion, a real Dreamcast collection would include these: - Soul Calibur - Sonic Adventure - Crazy Taxi - Shenmue 1 & 2 - Jet Set Radio And if I can include more games, I'd add these multiplat games: - Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & 2 - Capcom vs. SNK 1 & 2 - Resident Evil: Code Veronica X - Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 I just think the Dreamcast collection should have at least ONE game with a good story (Shenmue).

Is that supposed to be a joke? Four games, two of which are already available as downloads? One of them a fishing game? Who in the world at Sega actually picked these games? Are they really that out of touch?

This. I mean c'mon, even their Accounting Department could probably come up with a better list than this. Who the hell put SEGA Bass Fishing on there? Is this what they thought the Dreamcast was all about?

Does SAGA really want this "collection" to sell? It doesn't look like it.

I share the thoughts of you all. Massive disappointment. I was quite looking forward to the collection to - imagining things like Virtua Fighter, Sega Rally, Shenmue, Virtua Cop, Sonic the Hedgehog and more. This is a true disappointment, and the only reason I believe that they have such a primitive collection is because they want to make another one down the road.

That's disappointing indeed. But I wasn't expecting anything spectacular tbh. Good that my Dreamcast is still working...

A list of games SEGA could put on a collection (made or published by SEGA as it is a SEGA collection);

ChuChu Rocket

Crazy Taxi 1+2

Daytona USA 2001

Dynamite Cop 1+2

Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future

F355 Challenge: Passione Rossa

Fighting Vipers 2

The House of the Dead 2

Jet Grind/Set Radio

Metropolis Street Racer

Phantasy Star Online

Samba de Amigo

Sega GT

Sega Rally Championship 2

Skies of Arcadia

Shenmue 1+2

Sonic Adventure 1+2

Space Channel 5

Virtua Fighter 3TB

Virtua Tennis 1+2

I may have missed some but that's just what I can think of. I'd really would like to see some of these games on a collection. With luck SEGA will bring out another collection but with a better selection on.

Not a very strong justification if that's the case. If this one's selection is poor, who's to say that the others to follow won't be the same? I mean, granted, this was probably a rush job -- no doubt to try and capitalize on the current popularity of releasing old games in HD -- but they're not exactly doing themselves any favors with what's being offered off the bat.

I don't think SEGA can put that on a collection as it was Published by Ubisoft outside Japan, which is a shame :(

Thats another thing that comes to mind - rereleasing old games in HD. Is it easier to do this than to make new titles? Is there more profit in it? Are they hoping to resurrect old gaming franchises? I can see why rereleasing older titles might seem a good idea, I myself picked up the God of War Collection having never played either title, but two of these titles are already available, and the other two are so niche that it's hard to justify pressing them on to disc again. I'm not sure their reasoning behind choosing these 4 particular games, but as an old school Sega fan, I'm very disappointed that the Dreamcast Collection is more of a "throw in a few different things, and they'll eat it up".

Does Ubisoft have some sort of ownership of the property? If it was just publishing rights I would think that it would be fair game for Sega so long as they still own that particular property.

It's as I said: this is likely just a quick cash-in attempt rather than something that was given any real consideration. That effort would probably be reserved for future collections, assuming they release any more after this. They probably figured that tossing in a couple other games with the two previously downloadable offerings would be enough for a retail release, maybe to test the waters or something. Either way, it's a poor selection for something like this regardless of intent.

The games are made by Game Arts, and each one are published by different companies.

Grandia by ESP (Japan), Sony Computer Entertainment (US), Ubisoft (EU).

Grandia 2 by SEGA (Japan, DC), Enix (Japan, PS2), Ubisoft (US and EU)

Grandia 3 by Square Enix

Judging by the outcry since the announcement of the games on the disc, I'm sure there are a lot of unhappy gamers out there. So if given the choice, what would make your ultimate Dreamcast collection?

Okay, I can understand not piling games in there like Genesis Collection had, but there are volumes to be put together, even if limited to first-party games. Sega Dreamcast Collection: Volume I - The Launch Era 1998-2000 Sonic Adventure Sega Rally 2 Flag to Flag Crazy Taxi Dynamite Cop Virtua Fighter 3tb Sega Bass Fishing Space Channel 5 Time Stalkers Virtua Tennis ChuChu Rocket The House of the Dead 2 Sega Dreamcast Collection: Volume 2 - The Black Box Era 2000-2002 Sonic Adventure 2 Daytona USA Skies of Arcadia Phantasy Star Online Sega GT Jet Grind Radio Shenmue Shenmue 2 Fighting Vipers 2 Seaman Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Metropolis Street Racer Now here's where I'll catch some heat, but I think there were a lot of games in the opening stages of Sega's post-hardware days that did a beautiful job of carrying what the company was about to the industry at large, which as far as I'm concerned justifies this installment of games that never appeared on the Dreamcast but did a great job of representing it. The obvious concern is disc capacity... Sega Dreamcast Collection: Volume 3 - What Could Have Been 2002-2005 Shinobi Nightshade Panzer Dragoon Orta OutRun2 + SP Virtua Fighter 4: Final Tuned ***CONSOLE DEBUT*** Jet Set Radio Future Virtual On Marz Sega GT 2002 Phantasy Star Online: Episode III - CARD Revolution Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst ***CONSOLE DEBUT*** Yakuza Initial D Arcade Stage 3 ***CONSOLE DEBUT***

I just want to add that I think the problem here is that the Dreamcast Collection seems to be joining company with things like the PopCap collection and the Konami ones...really just offering bundled XBLA games instead of taking the disc-based collection approach.

Ugh.....all those games have previously been ported over to the other systems (dunno about Sega Bass Fishing). We need some actual titles that have never been re-released, like Shenmue, Illbleed, D2, Record Of Lodoss War, Speed Devils, Chu Chu Rocket, and Jet Grind Radio.

In my opinion, seems like a very strange mixture of games to include in the selection. Each game is a classic in its own right, but each games is a very different genre. So my guess is gamers out there will buy this collection for one or two of the games. Seems intentional on sega's part to get gamers to buyall thedifferentcollections they release.

I am happy to see sega release these games though, even though I had a dreamcast and own alot of these games, I think its great for gamers who missed out on the dreamcast to experience many of these classics.

My favorite dreamcast collection would go something like this ( I can't limit it to4 games, so I will go with 5):

Powerstone 2

Sonic Adventure 2

Shemune

JoJo's Bizzare Adventure (very underrated 2D fighter)

Sonic Adventure

The other two are going to be on the XBLA, it's just four games (two with no reason to play at all) that are already on the XBLA.
