Well I was wondering if Bethesda was planning on making an Elder Scrolls V. I know they're working on Fallout 3 and all but it'd be awesome if they made an Elder Scrolls V, since Oblivion was such a hit.

I just wanted to know what fans of the series felt.

I'm actually more excited for Fallout 3, as it looks to be an upgrade in almost every way from Oblivion IV, though I believe that the next Elder Scrolls is set in Skirin (Or Whatever That Snowbound PLace is Called)...If it even gets released this gen, I'll be suprised, I'd say it will probably be released in 2011.

Yeah but I like the era that Oblivion was set in, don't get me wrong I'm still hyped for Fallout 3.

I would have liked to see more DLC for Oblivion. Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles were alright, but I wanted something more. Least it was better than that Mass Effect POS.

They likely will. But as a fan, I couldn't care less. They peaked with Daggerfall and Morrowind and now their games are lame and streamlined. Fallout 3 looks to be pretty bad. Previews have been mostly negative and the game itself just doesn't sound exciting. Not only that but they desecrated the Fallout series.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I have no idea how you got the impression that previews for Fallout 3 have been bad, the game won best of E3 from a few gaming sites and from a critical standpoint I think Fallout 3 will be received nearly as high as Oblivion.

i can see his opinion after playing oblivion. a question about fallout 3. is it going to have similar level scaling to oblivion? that would be a deal breaker for me.

i felt like oblivion was the game that should have been, but wasnt. if they can bring back some of the better things from morrowind and get a more fun, engaging combat mechanic, as well as some more interesting characters, another elder scrolls could be quite great.

i think fallout could go either way. it has a lot to live up to.

Oblivion was a step up from MOrrowind when it comes to combat, this is widely accepted even among the most devout Morrowind fans.

i think you misunderstood, i was saying it needs to borrow what worked in morrowind, and come up with an engaging method of combat, not that morrowind's was any better than oblivion's. they both were lackluster IMO.

oblivion is funny because, even today, i still sometimes want to buy it and give it another shot, but i end up remembering the massive weaknesses and i can't bring myself to do it. it's sad because it had many parts of the puzzle in place, but did not unify them well.

Hopefully it won't be as much of an action-adventure with broken RPG elements. But seeing as how Fallout 3 is eliminating any chance of it being like the previous entries in the series and allowing actual role-playing and choice that affects the game world and other characters I doubt TESV is going to be any different and just be another streamlined action game for the mainstream audience.

The problem with making an Elder Scrolls V is that it is difficult to find a diverse enough environment with the remaining unused provinces. Valenwood is largely forested, the northern regions are apparently mountainous, and Black Marsh is literally uninhabitable by anyone but the Argonians. This will either result in having to rehash the prior games' environments or ignore the series' backstory in favor of creativity.

The best province to base the next game in is probably Elsweyr or Orsinium, assuming that they do not step away from Tamriel altogether.

There is nothing wrong with Oblivion. I was and still am a fan of morrowind, but oblivion is way better. Just because the map was slightly smaller doesnt make it worse. Morrowind had a ton of stuff in it, but Oblivion is way more realistic and has a much more finished feel to it.

GodLovesDead: have you played oblivion? that was in no way a streamlined peice of trash. and exactly what REPUTABLE source has said fallout 3 looks bad? i agree it should be 3/4 perspective, but otherwise it looks like it's done right. even though Dark Throne kicks ass, i have to question you here.

Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind was released early in the xbox's life cycle, Oblivion was released early in the 360's life cycle, so I'm about 90% positive that the next elder scrolls game will be released within the first year of the next xbox's launch.

Oh, and to answer OneWingedAngel's concern, no, there won't be scaleable leveling, as mentioned in pretty much every single preview for the game. Bethesda has said that if you go into certain areas before your level is high enough, you'll get your ass kicked.

that is good, it was one of the worst things they did in oblivion. it totally lost the feel of character strength growth.

@des: i agree that anyone who played oblivion and goes back and tries to play morrowind might be in for a rough transition. oblivion is a much prettier and smoother game. i think it was a much higher quality game, but had poor design choices, at least for people who are coming from morrowind to oblivion, rather than vice versa.

I did to, but I heard a lot of fans didnt like it. I have to agree, TES is usually a really serious game with little to no humor and that wouldnt go by well in an mmo.....believe me, I play WOW. Not that there is anything wrong with WOW, its just that TES games have a certain feel to them that make the story feel very serious like legend and myths of the past do.

They could do two provinces at once, it's not like they don't have the technology to do it.

Shivering Isles is better than the main game IMO, even though its shorter, it has a lot more variety mission wise, environment wise, story wise, and enemy wise.

Yeah, Shivering Isles is great. I would definately say its better than the main story, but not the entire main game. I loved the DB and Thieves guild.

And I almost can guaruntee that at least someone is concepting/developing another Elder Scrolls game. Big studios like Bethesda work on multiple games at once. Most of their studio is currently in developement on Fallout 3, but they have multiple small teams working on other projects.

Fallout 3's combat looks a little...iffy. The shooting mechanics seem a bit odd, and animations seem a bit off, I wonder what indoor combat will look like. And only half the bethesda team is working on Fallout 3, so it's not entirely out of the question to expect The Elders Scrolls V:....wherever. I know I'll enjoy Fallout 3 though, regardless of the iffy combat just for the openess of it.

For consoles? That makes no sense whatsoever, as Morrowind was also on the Xbox and was virtually the exact same sans mods as the PC version.

I pwnz you. Of course theres going to be another xbox, jus cause of RROD you think there might not be one. They are OUT SELLING PS3 you dick, eventhough of the head start they would still be ahead. Microsoft would be mad to drop xbox they are making loads out of it as of gears, halo, cod etc.

And on the topic at hand Oblivion to me was the best in the series no question about it, with Morrowind it just didn't do it for me, dagerfall amazing etc. They'll defo have some people making the next elder scrolls but for next gen. Beyond Good & Evil 2 isn't being made for current gen but next gen so theres every chance they are making another Elder Scrolls.

Smirnov171

I was joking about the RROD thing by the way....

I think it will be set in Skyrim as well. Not sure if there is much info on it online, but if you listen to the people in Oblivion in cities, they are talking about a conflict between Skyrim and Morrowind. So this might be a hint that the creators are at least thinking about it. As well, the island where high elves come from (forgot the name) is mentioned. So it might be between Skyrim and the island where high elves come from.

Pretty much. Which is why I think Bethesda has just become incompetent. I know some people out there enjoyed Oblivion; but not everyone did. I wish I had lower standards or never actually noticed what's broken about the gameplay because then I'd have an extra game to play. Morrowind has always been one of my favorite games. I anticipated Oblivion since its announcement. Hell, I even went out and asked the guys at a local store to sell me the game early (and they did since I worked there :P).

I beat the game before the game got any reviews whatsoever and I figured the game would get probably around at 80% average. But instead, it got insanely high ratings across the board. Which didn't make sense because it had less of everything compared to Morrowind. Less skills, less exploration, seemingly less quests, short main quest, less interesting game world, less immersion, less unique items, less lore, and less reasons to play.

The game did a few things right. It had better combat. And well - that's all I can think of. I don't know how so many people are convinced it's a great game, let alone think it's the greatest game in the Elder Scrolls series. Maybe I have higher standards, or maybe we are playing the game for different reasons. But either way - it makes me doubt Bethesda.
