I was wondering with Natal and the Playstation eye tech, plus Wii's motion sensor tech, being shown off: The question is this. Would you prefer that technology brought forth or just a whole new console system in general? Meaning, What if the graphical power stayed the same but the interaction to play the games was changed to these new technologies.

As for me, I would love to see facial recognition, and motion capture being use better in gaming. Not make new games for the new tech, but play current games with new tech. As always thanks for your time.

I think individual games with unique control technology should die a horrable death. You either use your fancy new gimmick as the standard method of control for an entire console or not at all. You do notneed individual games mucking things up and making you learn how to play a game in a new way just for one game. About half the time game developers cant even get the controls for a normal controller to work good. Now imagine a game where you have to move body parts and you move your left leg and your guy on the screen turns his head to the left lol.

Bottom line that crap is a gimmick. Until I can plug a cable into the back of my skull and control the game with my mind just give me a normal controller.

I like holding the controller in my hands. Gripping it and using a D pad or Joystick and using buttons on the opposite side of the D -pad.

I would really hate to see that whole high tech virtual reality come into play.

I understand the love for controllers, imagine the possibilities of puzzle games with Natal. When the game can interpret things you draw or write?? Awesome stuff man. Now as for a standard control, what's more standard than motion control? Everyone moves the same. Look at fighting games. You program moves into simple hand motions..Viola!! No more "controller issues". The speed of gameplay could be quicker.

I know change is hard to accept, but i'm ready for something new. nearly 30 yrs of a controller have gotten stale for me.

Yeah, Microsoft always seems to try and shoot for the stars and keep us on our toes for years to come at the end of their conferences? I understand they have it prototyped. But I feel more immersed with my active controllers. Microsoft's media's actual Natal demos were pretty un-impressive. They have at least three years. And then what? We buy a bunch of crappy props like the Wii Tennis rackets or swords to play RPGs? I would to rather be in a virtual world in my brain with real effects. I think Sony's has the most potential. It seems a lot more advanced too. Even know it was hard to see with the sketchy demos, it seems more fun and plausible. Not even to think its more like Wii, but actual first person shooters like "Time Crisis" for an arcade game with some sort of active controller? I don't know about you. But I'd rather dream, than talk to Milo. Good thread.

P.S. Microsoft's Demo was glitchy. Work in progress I know. But it couldn't follow body parts too well. And I don't like all of their imaginary edited videos for the 'what ifs' of this technology

Personally, I don't want full immersion into a video game. I don't want the lines to blur. I want to use a controller or steering wheel or lightgun and have a clear differentiation between the 'real' and the 'virtual.' Technology is terrifying in what it can accomplish. I don't ever want to play a game like in eXistenZ.

Yeah but what if I wanted to something like a flying kick? Do I have to execute the whole range of motion in order to have my character pull it off?

I think its even harder if you were to program moves into gestures, since there's only so much you can do with moving your body, and not everyone is proficient in hand-to-hand combat.

For some reason I don't like those gimmicks, like wii remote, or the upcoming project natal. and I also hate the fitness game. If people want to exercise, there's a place called gym, or even park!

Psst, everyone knows you can pull off flying kicks with ease. Stop playing.

Well I do agree masking actual fighting techniques with the same motion, is tedious and pointless. Though you don't have to program them that way. You can do simple motions for moves. Such as your index finger could pull off a shoryuken. my point is you could create a fighting game without "controller error" and have matches actually based on skill.

I do think things like wii-motion is a niched thing, people will always prefer a controller. But eliminating buttons with simple motions, could create a faster better paced game. The greatest thing they could do to a controller though, is seperate it. Give each hand a task. Something like a sphere with an analog stick and buttons. I always thought having your hands cramped close together sucked anyhow.
