What's a game in your opinion that's so masterful in so many ways but is also so bad in so many ways to the point where it's a mix of two radical extremes, and you could just only imagine what it would be like if the flaws were fixed.

to me that game is legend of zelda skyward sword

What are these extreme flaws in Skyward Sword? The only things I can think of are that game breaking bug and the lack of exploration

* Dungeons and puzzles are very simplistic compared to OOT, TP, MM

* Lack of a warping system from statue to statue

* From 10 hours in to 30 hours in, little to no progression in plot/story

* Lacking in enemy variety.  90% of enemies are generic bokoblins

* Sky overworld is severely lacking.  Most islands are just chunks of rock.

* Repetition: bosses, tears of light, backtracking

* Song of the Hero: (fire and water)

* Sky Keep lacked a boss and item.  Fire Sanctuary had a weak item (and usage).  Earth Temple was mediocre.

* Pacing issues.  Every half hour I have to stop what I'm doing to do a dumb fetch quest.

Metal Gear Solid 3.  Some really good level design and a wonderful variety of environments.  Nice long game with plenty of content.  On the other hand the cutscenes are the work of some egocentric nutcase who's obviously in love with the sound of his own voice, so to speak.

I agree on the sky: it was acceptable just because of the epic music, otherwise it's the worst overworld in recent zelda history. I should add the recycled boss in the crater, which you have to fight like 4 times and is poorly coded to boot. I still love the game though.

Mass Effect 3 comes to mind, also Silent Hill: Homecoming.

Forgot about Dragon Age II, that one as well.

Jak 2

It looks very impressive for such an old PS2 title, its got tons of mission variety, likable characters, and really can be lots of fun when things go smoothly.

But that difficulty level.... I swear I've conquered both Demon's and Dark Souls, owned Super Meat Boy in the face and destroyed VVVVVVV, but never has a game frustrated me more than Jak 2, maybe its the shoddy Vita port making things harder I don't know, but I've reached points where I wanted to fly over to Naughty Dog HQ and slap the shizznit out of whoever designed that game's atrocious difficulty.

I bet the Vita mortality rate tripled after the release of the collection just because of this game alone.

Day Z. The concept and sensation of fighting strangers and zombies in a perma-death world is so incredible, but the cheaters and abysmal UI are an abomination. Can't wait to try the retail version.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The platforming, story, and atmosphere are all absolutely wonderful, but the combat is awful, spoiling quite a big part of my enjoyment with the game. I swear, every time I go back to play that game, I find myself hating the combat more and more each time.

Combat is ok once you figure out the trick: just forget the sword button and use the jump button to vault over the enemies and cut them from behind.

Like others have said in this thread, I say Mass effect 3.

So many good points to it, but so many bad points.

Still a great game.
