The game bombed, scoring a disgraceful 4.5 on gamespot. I was surprised by how good the prequel was, since movie based games usually stink like rotten goats, so I was hoping for a new treat. Sadly, EA messed up and delivered a bad game. Curse you EA!

Who's feeling the way I do? :(

I generally agree with gamespot reviews. Plus, you can tell by the videos the game is lame.

Yeah it's disappointing. But other users are giving it higher scores so it might not be as bad as GS wants us to believe.

Regardless of the quality of the game, its hilarious that like vampires and zombies, made men can only be killed in certain ways.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Interestingly, the only way to permanently kill a made man other than to bomb his family's compound is to do so in a way that sends a specific message to his family, and you can find out which message needs to be sent only by doing favors for people you meet on the street. Remember how Vito Corleone was unable to turn down any request from a friend on his daughter's wedding day in the first Godfather movie? Well, this is nothing like that. Rather, you approach complete strangers and tell them they look like they need help, at which point they tell you who or which building they want attacked. Do them the favor, and they'll tell you where one of your enemies can be found and that he can only be killed with a Molotov, with a shot between the eyes, with a fall from a great height, by being run over with a car, or something similar. Not only is soliciting murder advice from random pedestrians totally absurd, carrying out these contrived actions is more trouble than it's worth, so you'll probably end up just bombing the compound every time.

Good Game reviewed it on Monday and they gave it a 7, but it did seem to have a few flaws.

I'm wondering if the reviewer worded it right. I mean if you push a guy off a building and that's not the way you kill him does he get back up? Or is it that when you push the guy off the building, he does indeed die but the game doesn't make the compound stage easier because you didn't kill him in a brutal way to send a message. I mean either way doesn't sound like a sound game design, but one sounds a lot worse than the other.

IGN gave it 7.5, now for reviews I depend more on IGN. I think this game is not that bad. GS already messed another game review very recently, I forgot the name though!

Well it's averaging 70% on Gamerankings so can't be that bad. I'm currently play The Godfather so been keeping an eye out for the scores of GFII to see if will be worth playing aswell.

Yesterday I thought it was a 6-7. I played it for another hour before bed last night. Now I'd say its 5-6.

It's very unfinished, buggy, old looking graphics, bad controls, and just not that fun. I'm very dissapointed.

Anyone else appalled that Gamepro gave this game a 5/5 when it has such glaring flaws...Not that I mean to hate.

If you look at the scores given to the game from the other critics, they are all much higher than Gamespots, except for Gamespy. One site even gave it an 8.9 out of 10.

In this case, it appears the Gamespots score is an anomaly.

Eurogamer is pretty trustworthy and they are in the same 4/10 ballpark.

Maybe you throw him off the building, he crashes on the ground, then gets back up, dusts his clothes off and yells at you: "Dude, you're doing it wrong!"

Eurogamer says the same thing.

-----------------------------------------

But living with such quirks is sadly necessary. To make real progress, it's not simply a case of taking over all your rival's businesses, but going to the trouble of finding out exactly where each of their corresponding family members hang out, and then executing them in a precise way. Drawing inspiration from the previous game's Contract Kill sub-missions, wiping out your foes for good requires precise execution instructions, such as the use of a specific weapon aimed at the kneecaps, or utilising the environment in a grisly fashion. Once these 'soldiers' are out of commission, enemy retaliation is correspondingly weaker, and eventually their compound unlocks, allowing you to steam in and wipe everyone out (including their Don) before setting your demolition expert to work and blowing the place to kingdom come.

-------------------------------------------

I might fish Godfather 2 out of a bargain bin someday. Not too many games cause me to laugh just reading about them.

Same here, I presume it will drop below $30 in a matter of a few months, so it may be sooner than we expect.

I actually bought the game because I'm a sand box game nut and I would like to clear a few things up. You do have to kill the rival made men a certain way so if one's weakness happens to be strangulation and you happen to shoot them, they are put out of commission for a while to recoup in the hospital. It's pretty much an unsuccessful hit. The reviews make it sound like the made men are invulnerable until you kill them a certain way. You could easily drive from made man to made man and knock them out of the game for a bit and attack the compound that way. Also while the friendly AI is warping all over the place, i've played for 3 hours and have the max number of followers. They don't get stuck on doors and the only time they pause when getting in cars is to wait for the one guy to move over so they can quickly jump in. it takes the same amount of time for someone to run to the other side of the car so i don't see where the complaint is coming from. But like the GS review states, the do have a tendency to just appear behind you in a room when they weren't there to begin with. Reminds me of the butler in Mr Deeds.

:P Still damn strange, but not as hilarious as the notion of made men shrugging off shotgun blasts to the face ("Haha! Only an AK-47 round to my left knee can harm me!"). Thanks for the clarification.

like i said, it is a dumb decision either way because you can initiate brutal finishing moves on the character such as a shotgun blast to the face and they do end up in the hospital, which is highly unlikely but that does sound better because, from the reviews, they made me think the person is kind of invulnerable until you kill them a certain way. I immediately thought the vampire situation like you and thought that if i tossed someone off the roof, they'd just get up and run away

I never go with the Gamespot ratings, I go with the USER RATINGS...and have always found them useful.

And I think you should take a look at the 3 User reviews who disagree with the Gamespot rating in this case too!

And personally I believe, that EA will never sell anything crap and will live upto its reputation that it has achieved since years.

WTH are you talking about, if you had said the last year or so I would have agreed with you, but overall EA has a subpar reputation for allowing unfinished games to be released...This game seems like it needed another 6 month delay, which is pathetic really given that people were just looking for a more polished expanded version of the first game.
