With naughty dogs game primarily being linnier do you think that there is any chance this game could end up being open world and still hold onto its great story?

no and i hope Naughty Dog never goes open world with their games. Neil Druckmann said before they released Uncharted 4 that story is everything with the type of games they like to make. open world would ruin the tension and pacing of TLoU2

Hmmm....no. Maybe there'll be more open levels like in Uncharted 4, but I would really not like it if the game was open-world.

That would be better than the linear set pieces ND are known for.

no, thanks. Open world is to this gen what forced multiplayer was to last gen. People want it in everything but all it does is divert resources from creating a solid single player experience to a component that adds nothing to the game and is ultimately forgotten in a week. Just look at the Mirror's Edge sequel.

Doubt that will ever happen and im glad Naughty Dog keeps making their games just the way they are making them today. Why fix what's not broken right?

I think the only reason why I would like open-world would be for exploration and resource gathering. but I don't think its necessary considering what they did with uncharted 4 by creating linear open spaces. so I guess it can still work with linear spaces. I would just love to see really big set pieces and be aloud to gather, platform and just become immersed in the environment. I absolutely loved uncharted 4 for this because the game looked breathtaking and there modeling style gives the environments this grimy, grainy look that feels and looks a lot more realistic and makes I think for deeper immersion.

If it's open world I simply won't play it. I don't think it suits Third Person Cover Shooters at all.

The reason it kinda works for Horizon, is because it's also a-light RPG, borrowing elements from the Monster Hunter series.

Why would they make it open world?

I think you can be pretty sure that they will stick to the formula that made 1 popular, Just with a female protagonist to make the feminists happy.

With TLOU I think 'Dog hit the perfect combination of story and gameplay. It was nowhere near as linear as UC3 but it wasnt quite fully open. The environments felt like small sandboxes where there were a handful of routes to take and ways of taking out enemies.

WIth UC4 I think ND did the right thing in making more sandbox-ish environments that felt like you were offt he leash but still very much in the story. More of that would help. Oh and give us a few more weapons!

If they give the game to Gerilla Games it could end up very good. Horizon is one of the 3 open world game that I actually finished. The other open world are so bad to me ... big but so empty, filled with filler contents that add nothing to the game which is not the case of Horizon.

So they could make a good open world game but they would have to change some element of the linear game.

@RSM-HQ: it still surprises me when people call TLOU a TPS. I just don't see it. It felt like the game actively worked against you firing a gun. It was a huge risk that only paid off in rare circumstances.

@Pikminmaniac: I'm not going to argue at that, but what other genre do we stick TLoU in?

Survival Horror? Not enough of either.

Mechanically it's not as good as Vanquish which I still view as the king on TPS. But for set pieces and art direction it is something worth playing, at least once. Like Metal Gear Solid it's more for the emotional ride I guess_

(and this is coming from someone who doesn't play games for story)

@RSM-HQ: TLOU was definitely a mixture of a few genres. It has survival elements with the resource management, lots of focus on stealth, and the ability to gun it as a last resort.

It's encounter system was really engaging an interesting to me. It felt rather unique.

@Pikminmaniac: Agreed, though I disliked the stealth due to mixed enemy A.I., they can either see you through walls, or they can't see anything and are as dumb as bricks. I don't know if the PS4 edition fixed this but on PS3 A.I. was 'bonkers' to say the least.

I love open world games. I love The Last of Us. But I don't think those 2 things should mix. Sure, I'd like there to be some optional paths and a little room for exploring. But a game like this is better off being more linear and I don't think there's any reason to believe it won't be.

If it's not broke don't fix it. The Last of Us was epic. Why change the style of play?

What games should do is have a game for you to play single player and maybe if they want open world make it only for online co op so that you can **** around with your friends, beyond that open world is only good for rpg.

No.

Open world would strip pacing right out of ND's hands, and pacing is a crucial part of telling a linear narrative. There might be a bit more leeway in certain areas but I'd expect the structure to remain largely like the first.
