I gave it some thought, and Star Wars Galaxies (Pre-CU) had to be the most innovative for numerious. Can you name them?

If you didn't think that SWG was innovative then which one was for you?

I would agree with you on SWG if it wern't for the fact that UO had pretty much everything SWG had first. Which isn't that surprising since the same guy created both games to begin with. So I go with UO.

Loved SWG btw. My favorite MMO to date (Pre-CU). I still refuse to buy any type of Sony product after what they did to that game :o

Actually did you hear about the SWGemu? They are trying to reverse engineer the Pre-CU game. As such it will be free of subscription. Not sure when they will be done, but they have been working on it for about 3 years. I think they are getting close to it being done. =] Check it out. What I liked about SWG you literally get to live your life in the Star Wars universe. You could be a dancer, and musician. Just stand there plays some tunes or dance and people would TIP you. Now that is a true MMORPG. There are other reasons, but I don't want to get to into it. I never had a chance to try out UO unfortunately heard it was very good though.

WoW is the best MMO and has the most players, so it has to be that.

I would say eve-online would be the most innovative mmo i have ever played. The entire game culture and world is shaped by the players. sure some people dont like it, but it has to take the cake for most innovation hands down.

agree completely Pre-Cu SWG was the most unique and innovative MMO, the whole skill point/profession system was so open you could literally make any kind of hybrid character you wanted out of 32 classes. admittedly it needed some balancing and work but the sandbox nature of the original SWG is still something that iv not seen replicated in other MMO's. the whole NGE still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i stopped playing SWG about 6 months ago when my JS broke and i didnt replace it since the NGE all my time was spent in space. i can honestly say that the 1st 2-3 years playing SWG was probably the best gaming experience iv had in my entire life, the game was that good. i always thought the SWG community was somet special as well.

Ultima Online by far. They really brought the virtual world to fruition. With player run housing/shops/taverns/villages, a TRUE player run economy, an actual open world that's not level based... Too bad it was ruined :( And as much as I hate to say it, Everquest was pretty innovative, too, since it introduced the tank, spank, and heal methodology to online team play. I personally hate the formula, but clearly it caught on.

Richard Garriott made SWG? :P I don't even think Starr Long was part of SWG (I could be wrong about that). Not sure who you're thinking of.

I really never truely had a chance to play SWG to be honest, I read A LOT about it, but didn't have a computer to run it. When I finally got one Pre-CU was gone and NG just moved in. Tried a trial and my dreams were DASHED! But when I went over to my friends house, it just looked epic, all the classes you got. How impossibly hard it was to be a Jedi, it was a (imo) perfect MMO of Star Wars. Ultima Online, I heard quiet a lot about it, housing system especially. Heard it was cheap to get a place, but when a month passed, heard it was truely hard to purchase it. Is it true that you could set it up like a museum of trophies and people could pay to get in? I know someone bought a huge mansion at one time, owned quiet a big portion of money in the game too. I hear a lot Entropia to, the game that is with RL money to trade and buy with. Technically you could make money by playing it.

WoW isn't innovative, they just took the best of what came before it and made something great. (Not bashing WoW don't get me wrong, but very little in WoW is a new concept, even their setting is derived from other fantasy worlds)

The pvp in WAR is innovative if a little overly ambitious, its also not for the faint of heart. Its a shame it was pretty much released 2 years too early. When it works its great, its reliant on other players however and isn't really a game you can just mess around on with the wife. Which is probably why its not considered a success.

Most innovative I would give to DC universe online for what they are trying to do (doesn't mean it'l happen tho eh, since innovative doesn't mean good)

EVE Online is pretty different and innovative, but the learning curve is pretty steep. :P

Learning curve

I have to say I think there are certain parts in games that are the most innovative.

SWG had the most innovative crafting and social options.

WAR has the most innovative PvP system.

and WoW has a great PvE system.

Star Wars Galaxies was, no other quite like it. I wouldn't say it was perfect even if it's best of days, the mechanic for using combat skills was weird: you had to use your health in order to perform special attacks, why? So you aim for a leg-shot and in doing so you lose your body and mind health, made no sense to me and didn't play very well also. At the early stages it was not too bad, but when your going for bigger nastier stuff you had to seek out doctor buffs or you won't be able to perfom well enough.

Also, for most the armor sets you had to get doctor buffs in order to wear it, or your just running around doing auto attacks because your health and mind have depleted too much because your wearing your armor, that's right, you lose maximum health for wearing armor... It needed work, Sony were right to change things but it didn't work out quite so well because they were also changing things that were not broken. They ended up simplifying the game too much and that became it's downfall.
