i think, that nowadays, games are just the same...

and there are few games that are really original

for me, the most original on this days, which all the fps are just killing guys is: portal, and mirrors edge

which were games that made me say : "awesome, great idea"

It may be a bit surprising but the one that made me think i was playing a different fps then the norm was Peter Jacksons: King Kong.

it was groundbreaking at the time. it was set in a realistic present-day setting, the gameplay was more story-driven than before, the AI was revolutionary, there was a superb mix of action and problem-solving.... FPS games before that were always something like "the year is 2246. you're on an alien planet and they want your blood. here's a gun. GO!"... Half-Life changed all that.

Even though it's not First-Person, I'd have to say American McGee's Alice. Design-wise, nobody can argue with the creative shift Half-Life caused.
