I for one think its hilarious that gamers from "my day" (Im twenty eight) act like crotchedy old-timers when it comes to the new generation of games and gamers. Nostalgia clouds our perception of the games we used to play (and yes, I still play and love a ton of games back to the 8-bit era), and taints our perception of new games. That people (even ones posting here) knock newer gamers who "think MW2 is the greatest shooter ever", simply because they never got past loving Goldeneye is an odd hypocrisy. Ive been playing MW and Gears 2 when I want a shooter lately, and decided to bust out the 64 to see how it holds up. It doesnt. Other than the fact that Goldeneye paved the way for MW, MW is superior in every single way.
Im not convinced I would like as many old-school games as I do had I not grown up with them, though Ive met a few newer gamers who love vintage games. Every era has had its highs and lows, and the newer generation has the benefit of years of garbage passing them by. I would say that their opinion now matters more than ours, and no amount looking down our crooked old noses with contempt will change the fact that games are getting better than ever. Not all of them, but todays highs are way more thrilling than yesterdays....in this old %#$@#%'s opinion, at least.
