I know that it's a long way before it is finally out, but I decided to get the ball rolling and start up an official thread about Capcom's latest fighting effort, Street Fighter X Tekken. This is the one thread where anything and everything SF X Tekken should be discussed at here on the Gamespot forums. Like with my Marvel Vs Capcom 3 thread, this is the thread where all the current information is complied, all confirmed, so that you may stay up to date with this latest game and to hear your thoughts about it. This posting will not be picture-heavy, so please do not click on my thread expecting to see a gallery of pictures and videos. I hope you guys are interested in the game as much as I am and will enjoy talking about it. Here's the deal thus far...

Metamania, what systems will this game be on?

As of right now, it has been confirmed that Playstation 3, XBox 360 and PC owners will have a chance to play Street Fighter X Tekken on those systems respectively! You can see the news here.

-No word yet on a Wii version, but it has been officially confirmed, by Gamespot and multiple news sources, that Street Fighter X Tekken is making its way to Playstation Vita, Sony's newest portable system!

As of this article, Capcom has confirmed that they have begun work on the PC version. As soon as we find out about a release date for that version, you'll be the first to know!

Update: Capcom has officially confirmed a release date for the PC version. PC gamers can now expect to play Street Fighter X Tekken on May 11th, 2012. You can see the confirmation here

Any idea when Street Fighter X Tekken will be released?

According to Capcom, the game is scheduled to be released sometime in the year 2012. You can see that news here.

Update: Good news! Capcom finally announced an official date for the game's release! March 6th, 2011 is when US gamers can get their hands on the game, while Europe will have to wait three days later to play it, March 9th! You can read the news here

Any kind of storyline that we should be concerned with for this game?

There hasn't been any official information in regards to the storyline for SF X Tekken just yet. Once that information is also revealed offocially, it will also be posted here.

What makes this fighting game different then the rest?

In basic terms, this is the first time that characters from both Street Fighter and Tekken will clash each other. From the looks of things, this is meant to be a tag-team figthing game, where you can swap out fighters at anytime during the match. Unlike Marvel Vs Capcom 3, you can only select up to two, unless noted otherwise. Like with any other fighting game, your goal is to destroy your opponent by any means necessary, through devastating combos solo or with your chosen fighting partner. If you read more below, I've included some new information for you to read...more will be updated as more is revealed!

Here's some more information about a few new aspects of the game that will try its best to make it stand out from the rest of the crowd, courtesy of Gamespot's new preview of SF X Tekken.

-Unlike Marvel Vs Capcom 3, if one of your fighters is defeated, the round is over. So it's best to make sure you take your current fighter out of the match before he or she receives the death blow.

-Like Marvel Vs Capcom 3, however, there is an air launch technique you can perform on your opponents by pressing fierce punch and kick simultaneously. This is a great way to begin juggling your enemy in the air.

-Each fighter has a super meter that is broken down into three segments that could be used to perform EX moves of their special moves. The first segment would be a regular move, the second would be an EX version of that move, and the third would be the super move.

-All the stages will have a fantatical look to them and will even include fan-service, according to Yoshinori Ono, who was interviewed in the video that's included with the preview I mentioned above. For example, one level, which mainly consists of dinosaurs...if you look closely, you'll see Alex from Tekken wandering around in the background. The stages are also meant to be a fusion of both Street Fighter and Tekken, so it won't be like all Tekken stages or all Street Fighter stages. This is a game meant to have the best of both worlds in terms of its look and appeal. I should also mention that the dinosaur level also had two parts to it, so it looks like this is something we will seen often in stages for SF X Tekken.

Enough about the small stuff, let's get to the good stuff! What about characters?

I'm glad you asked that question! Like with my Marvel Vs Capcom 3 thread, I will include the names of all characters who will be representing each side. The list below is the official list. If we are to receive any DLC content in the form of exclusive characters, that too shall also be posted. With that said, this is what I know of so far that has been confirmed.

Capcom (Street Fighter):
Abel
Akuma
Balrog
Cammy
Chun-Li
Dhalsim
Guile
Hugo
Ibuki
Juri
Ken
M.Bison
Poison
Rolento
Rufus
Ryu
Sagat
Vega
Zangief

Namco (Tekken):
Asuka
Bob
Heihachi
Hwoarang
Jin
Julia
Kazyua
King
Kuma
Law
Lili
Marduk
Nina
Ogre
Paul
Raven
Steve Fox
Xiaoyu
Yoshimitsu

PS3/Playstation Vita exclusive characters:
Cole McGrath (InFamous)
Toro
Kuro
Megaman
Pac-Man

Will there be a section for DLC content on this thread, Meta?

Yep! In this section, I'll let you know what kind of content we will be getting. Course, we will have to wait for Capcom to spill the beans on that one and you know how long the wait will be, more than likely irritating! But don't worry - once something is revealed, I'll post it here!

What kind of games modes will be included in the game?

I can already imagine single-player content, as well as multiplayer. I would also expect a training mode as well. Once a full list of modes has been revealed, it will be posted.

Can we discuss the game in general with this thread?

Of course you can! This is one of the primary reasons why I made this thread, so that we can all enjoy the ride from start to finish. Please talk about anything and everything Street Fighter X Tekken in here. The more, the merrier, I say! Also, I wish to quickly add, but if you found something that I did not see just yet or was blind enough not to discover on my own, feel free to post it on here and I will not only it include it here, but give you credit as well! Thank you!

Wait! What about reviews, Meta?

You ask. I answer.

I'm not huge on Lei, but I can see him be a beast of sorts if handled properly in SF X Tekken. :)

A good Lei player can be very unpredictable, thanks to his stances. :D

As far as I'm concerned, I'm expecting several characters to appear, which would make sense for teams. For example...

I have a feeling that Cammy will appear, thus making a Cammy/Chun-Li team.

For Tekken, I could see either Marshall or Forrest Law teaming up with Paul Phoenix or Baek and Hworang teaming up together as well. I would love to see them in the game!

Not liking Marduk here. Makes sense that he should be Abel-like, but he seems way more frame-intensive than he was before. I guess that's just an Ono thing. Anyway, game seems a lot more distinguishable from SFIV than it did at SDCC. It's definitely getting its own distinguishable playstyle in place.

Funny you talk about Marduk, DC, because I found an article from Play-Mag that talks about the characters in-depth from the demo. This is what they had to say about Marduk.

Marduk

The character I used most at the event. Didn't see or play anyone else using him.

He's a command throw character with three moves – Gator Slam (SRK + punch) which is a ground-to-air grab like Abel's Falling Sky, Northern Lights Suplex (half-circle back + punch) and tackle (half-circle back + kick). His main game seems to be getting close and mixing up between suplex, tackle and normal pokes.

He has a few good pokes in amongst a ton of garbage ones. Standing HP goes really far. It has a canned standing HP follow-up but it hits high and is only worth it in juggles. Crouch MK is a decent sweep that recovers fast. MP + HP is a double-handed punch which he definitely has in Tekken 6, it sets him up nicely for a mix-up whether it hits or is blocked.

The pokes can also be mixed up with tackle. The range was about sweep range, which is quite short, and has a lot of recovery when missed. When he connects, Marduk can either do nothing (slowly gets off the opponent), punch them in the face repeatedly (punch) or throw them behind him by the foot (kick). No other option seemed available and the strength of the punch/kick button didn't seem to change the move. Tagging during the foot throw doesn't bring in your partner fast enough to do the combo – Ryu's Shoryuken is the one special move that seems to have active hit frames the earliest and that was consistently whiffing, so I'm fairly sure the only reason to tag during that move is to safely bring in your partner.

The EX version has armor (just the single hit) and also sees Marduk shoulder barge them into wall ahead of him for a wall bounce combo. On his own, I managed to get him to do an EX Gator Slam but only once. The timing seems to be really tight. You can also spend meter tagging your partner in. When I landed the EX version, I'd spend a bar bringing Ryu into the match and he could do HP xx HP Shoryuken.

Marduk doesn't seem to have a viable anti-air. He doesn't have any decent air-to-air attacks – neutral jump MP is okay but that's about it. He can do back + MP, which is a command normal with armour, but it's slow and the punch can be ducked by all the characters thus far (maybe not Bob) so players can jump in, see their hit get absorbed, duck down and punish.

I don't think Marduk will be a particularly strong character if only because I think he'll struggle to get in on opponents. He doesn't have much mobility, doesn't have much in the way of parlour tricks and doesn't have any decent jumping attacks either. He's a powerhouse when he's close, I just don't see him getting close that often.

Even though it's still early in development, from all the trailers and footage I've been seeing today, it looks like another good fighting game. Still too early to tell though...it's all about waiting and seeing.

Judging by the video footage we've seen, it looks like Kazuya will be the main antagonist for Street Fighter X Tekken.

Eurogamer has an interview with Seth Killian about the game.

-If you lose anybody in this game you've lost the round. That's a throwback to a Tekken Tag system where you've got to keep both players alive. So it's dynamic as far as switching. You can't just focus on your one character.

-There's also no built-in comeback mechanic, like an Ultra meter. You've got one bar, used for all of your different techniques, which is important. Beyond that, the Focus Attack buttons are now used to tag. You can use those tags in somewhat of a Focus-like way in terms of Focus Cancelling, so your Focus Cancelling skills will still be useful to you, but it's not quite the same thing.

-You can just tag normally – it's pretty fast. But it's not completely safe. There is a little refractory period where you're vulnerable. So you want to find situations where you can tag.One of the ways you can do that is by tagging in during a combo. You can be creative and cover your tag or, even in a block string, throw a fireball and tag behind that.

-It's a bit more of an in your face game because the Tekken characters don't have projectiles, for the most part. It's more of a mid-range game than a full-screen game. It's more down and dirty, where you want to be up close.-And there are a lot of hybrid combos. In Tekken, you never begin a combo by jumping in at somebody. That's a pretty big thing in this game. Jumping is still an important technique.

I disagree. The Mishima style has the Spinning Demon. Some other characters also have combos that lead from a jump, like Hwoarang and Baek. As for everything else you wrote... sounds good.

Exactly!

That being said, Bran does have a point. Those certain characters do not need to jump in to start up a combo, which can be use as a surprising tactic in battle. But that doesn't mean all characters have the ability to start a combo with a simple jump off the ground, so Seth's point still stands.

Apparently, it looks like they are teasing Cammy as a playable character for Street Fighter x Tekken, which certainly looks to be the case. I'll wait until Capcom officially confirms it before I update the list, but it's certainly looking that way!!!

Not sure about Juri and how popular she is now, but Sakura, Xiaoyu, and Lei are popular enough. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it in the roster. Hopefully, we will learn more at E3! :)

[QUOTE="rragnaar"]I'm happy to see Cammy in there. Now I just need Lei Wulong, Sakura, Xiaoyu and Juri and I'll be in heaven.:)rragnaar

Not sure about Juri and how popular she is now, but Sakura, Xiaoyu, and Lei are popular enough. I wouldn't be surprised if they made it in the roster. Hopefully, we will learn more at E3! :)

That is too bad that Juri isn't so popular. She is a ton of fun to play.

I wouldn't give up all hope though. I think she will be a part of SFxT. :)

Man I really hope so! She's my current favorite character.

Capcom Europe just teased more gamers with another video, strongly indicating that Sagat will be playable. You can check it out here.

Yet another Capcom Of Europe teaser surfaced! This time, it's from the Tekken universe, that person being Julia. You can see her here.

Julia should be a lot of fun. It looks like she'll be old school Julia instead of the more grapple heavy version of her character in Tekken Tag 2. I'm only basing that on her outfit though.

Great news! Julia Chang is a great character. Love to have a match with Nina/Julia VS Cammy/Chun-Li!

Nice! Hopefully, they'll include Baek in this one...would make sense, considering they are master and student to each other and I think it would be devastating what they can do.

Once Capcom fully comes out of the closest and says that these characters are official, I'll be updating the list big time.

They damn well better put Lei Wulong in this.

Aww man I loved lei. His grapple attack was very memorable. I am glad that howrang will be back as he is my favourite Tekken character. Him or baek, Seen as they are pretty similar

I don't like how they are in the street fighter art style. I don't like the cartoony feel. I want proper tekken graphics
