Me and my friends were thinking that it would theoretical possible to create the perfect game. By this I mean a game in which you can do practically anything. A game which would be just like real life except with the fun thing that in video games like guns and higher health than than the bad guys. Basically like a open-world game where you can do pretty much anything. A first-person real-life simulator. I could created a list of 50 thing off the top of my easily. The point is can it be done? If not, why not? And if so could it be created?

Sounds to me like a Bethesda RPG. Fallout and The Elder Scrolls basically do that: A huge world for you to live in however you like. They may lack some parts of your life-simulation, but they are on the right way and will probably become what you think of in a few years.

What's wrong with Minecraft or Terraria? Those would be pure sandbox games because there's no storyline and no ending. Heck, you could even consider Second Life a good sandbox game :P

as soon as you make some tunings in the sandbox game to make shooting more fun than other things, it becomes more of a shooter. i think that it speaks more towards the near impossibility of a pure pre-made sandbox game. you have to be so careful to not lead players into doing one particular thing or else the game starts to be about that thing.

then you have the sandbox games that allow the user to create their sandbox (btw the purest one would just be a dev kit). the difficulty is in giving the player enough tools to truly do anything to meet this ideal of a pure sandbox game. even if you do, youre at the mercy of players' creativity. the biggest thing that tends to happen in these sorts of games is that users just make levels from other games. its like you can paint an exact copy of the mona lisa and that would take a certain amount of ability and all, but im sure more people would rather you did your own thing.

i guess my point is that you eventually need to put an end to your work. a flight simulator doesnt need to craft every electron in the plane to create the illusion of flight.

In terms of messing around? I think JC2 and GMOD take the cake. However, the ideal open world game (structured and all that) would be fun to play whenever, have great mechanics and a ton of content.

Thats the idea but everygame you played probably has one or a few feature that you really like hunting in red dead or stealing tanks and aircraft JC2 or being able to build what your want in minecraft. Anyways the could all those awesome feature be combined into 1 awesome game. obvious some features would conflict but then you not use that feature or change it

and with the ability to built stuff like minecraft, if it would to be release then hopefully it would be like minecraft so that instead of releasing a new game, everytime a new feature was created it would be released in a update, it would be a perpetually improving game

Simple. I would say Grand Theft Auto IV, Far Cry 2, Garrys Mod, Just Cause 2, Minecraft, Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, and STALKER series. Deadly Premonition could be included but it has a lot of storylines and missions to be worked on.

you could just wait for 11/11/11 for Skyrim. Sure, it's a fantasy set game, but it seems like it'll offer real life choices along with the awesome stuff we've come to expect from an ES game.
