i mean seriously, how do they pick the nominees? it's nice to see some vocal performance catagories, butt why are the majority of slots filled with AAA class celebs like vin deisel? that's BS! it's nice that nolan north, mark hamil and the voice of harley quin(forget her name) are on their, but theere were great performances by PROFESSIONAL VOICE ACTORS!!!!! i mean how come jack black gets nominated for brutal legend but not jennifer hale? also how did ODST get so many noms. don't get me wrong, i'm a huge halo buff, but ODST was goood, but they're over playing it a tad

Yeah it is a joke. For example, Super Mario Galaxy didn't even get nominated as a overall GOTY contender even though it was the highest (or one of the highest) reviewed and rated game that year. But it does one thing. It gets the word out there to the mainstream for some of these games. But at the end, it really is a casual fare.

You are not the only one.I feel it's mostly voted by people who make the games and who has the largest ad presence. I know for a fact that people in the game industry {not going to name names } send out email to who all they know begging for votes on whatever they worked on. Its not exactly based on gameplay or other criteria. Its a pretty lame award show.

To a sense I believe it to be a joke but I personally don't why it's hard to imagine ODST getting so many nominations. It can fall under 360 categories and overall categories like voice acting, MP, and such. I'm more into it for the previews it'll offer, personally.

I don't care about the nomination or who would win. What I'm really excited about is that I heard they're releasing info on 10 exclusives we never heard before, of course that what I heard somewhere in gametrailers.com. Also there should be some exciting new trailers.

You mean ever, SMG is probably within the top 10 highest reviewed games ever. You are right, it's what's most popular not what is the best, the VGAs eat up stuff like Rock Band, Halo, COD, GEOW and the like, it's all about the ratings.

The sad truth is that most video game journalism in general is a joke outside of a few places. It's just most of it doesn't have a cable TV channel broadcasting its garbage...

I'v never really been able to take Spike seriously in the game industry. They seem to only focus on the games that they think their target audience wants to play, instead of what gamers want to play. That's fine. It just strikes me as a little weird.

Spike target audience is more like to be casual, so they won't bother voting. It's the more committed gamers that would vote, and the games they want to vote for just arent there.

Why would anyone have expectations to begin with for a network that caters to the lowest common denominators of the young male demographic?

By the way, I slept with Tiger Woods.

It feels kind of **** to know that you are not a shows target audience. It probably feels worse when you don't even realize it. Channels like Spike don't target "gamers" as their audience because they know, and you know it too, that gamers do not watch television. No, this channel is made for people who like Halo, MMA, and wear tight shirts that say TAPOUT and drink XYIENCE. So, when you start throwing awards to games that feature a slow paced combat system (Dragon Age) or games that feature actors from a cartoon (Arkham Asylum) they start to feel offended that Halo ODST did not win best original game or that Madden '10 won't get greatest innovation. Speaking of innovation let me get this off my chest. MODERN WARFARE 2 IS NOT INNOVATIVE IT PLAYS LIKE A GAME MADE 7 YEARS AGO NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Here is a great example of how a game can be considered "Innovative". Rainbow Six started out as a slow paced shooter favoring strategy FAAARR over fast reflexes. You had a planning stage where you could create waypoints that 4 squads could follow and using this you could execute a very successful mission. By about rainbow six lockdown they did away with that entirely. In fact it wasn't until Rainbow Six Vegas that they changed just about every single aspect of rainbow six to make it the game it is today. They removed the planning stage which a lot of people complained about and gave it a more on the go feel, added quite possibly the best cover system so far. Then Rainbow Six 2 came out and they added even more to it. Now you can sprint (which I admit should have been in the first game), but gave it a unique experience system, improved the co-op gameplay, made it so that your experience stayed with your character no matter what you did when playing the game, and you can shoot through stuff too. What has Call of Duty done in the 7 games that have been released for it? Experience system, shoot through stuff, and instant kill knives? Oh I know lets have it so when people die a grenade drops on the ground! Hey I remember counter strike did something like that =D. Yeah, the game was awesome 7 years ago when it was called Call of Duty, but when every sequel you play stays the same it gets stale. And now it seems that they are moving to more of a multiplayer deathmatch type of gameplay which could probably mean that nothing about this game will change for a long time. Speaking of multiplayer, since when did multiplayer become such a big **** deal. Since when did every single gamer out there want to kill each other? Here is something I propose. Since you want to make a fantastic shooter, and since shooters are now reviewed based on their multiplayer if they have any, don't even bother with the single player. I'm sick and tired of wasting $60, on a PC version of a game I probably should have bought for a console, when they shortchange the single player campaign. Yeah, I was disappointed with Modern Warfare 2. I went through it's stupid time trial and got a veteran recommendation only to turn the difficulty down because I am sick and tired of endless spawning AI with X Ray telescope vision that can shoot you in your safe hiding spot because your concrete wall turned out to be made out of plywood. Hey and controversy? I skipped that part where you go around an airport shooting people because I felt offended by it? NO! I skipped that part of the game because I didn't want to spend 10 minutes following 4 Russian douche bags accomplish nothing but artificially extend the length of the level (it was a short level) by doing something that could have CLEARLY been done better and probably been given a more profound effect if it was done as a cinematic. Wow...I have got to stop taking Percocet before posting....

Rainbow six vegas was a huge step backwards from what rainbow six should have been. That game was fun but there was no way any thought to what you did. It was just run into this room guys spawn shoot them *yawn* I was a big fan of the old rainbow six games because they made me think, and think tactically. Rainbows 6 is a shell of its former self its just like every other shooter out there.

I love watching the show myself, I just find it a really entertaining experience. I like seeing what games are nominated and what games win even if I don't always agree with them. There's some good humour sometimes and sometimes the celebs they get do a great job ie. Samuel Jackson and Jack Black. There's also a lot of great exclusive game trailers shown as well.

The awards are more like "just for fun". Nothing like say the NHL awards where the choices are much more professional and things are quite clear.

It'll be fun watching the show though since I'm relly excited to see Halo Reach :D
