5. The inexcusable and pathetic PS3 port of Bayonetta

4. The impending extra monthly subscription fees on both XBL and PSN to play Activision and EA games online a la Final Fantasy XI Online (trust me, folks, it's going to happen, that greedy midget who runs Activision fantasizes about it every day)

3. Third party games' sales performance on the Wii

2. Sony's laughably high launch price for the PS3 ($600, what were they thinking... )

1. Last, but certainly FAIL, the RROD (I myself went through 3 Xboxes; while it has awesome games, the 360 is not only the worst console I've owned but the worst consumer electronics item I have ever owned)

Bayonetta on PS3 was patched to allow an install, it's actually not that bad anymore.

Bayonetta was the same game for the PS3. The graphics only looked a tad worse.

If you think the ps3 version of Bayonetta was bad then i bet you have not see many pc versions of multiplatform games. Also activision online fee is just a rumor. 1.Anyway biggest fails this gen: ubisoft super dupper drm, which failed misserbly. 2.Gta iv on pc 3.alan wake 4.PROD

That every game "needs" a multiplayer.

draudn
and that one, seriously why every game must have mp just for the shake of having? Do the developers get cookies if they make a multiplayer mode?

5. The Wii's online support (or lack thereof).

4. The PS3 launch price. Sony suffered for a long time because of that.

3. Motion controls, 3D, and the fact that every company is using them.

2. Xbox live costing sixty dollars now, instead of being free like it always ahould have been.

1. The red ring of death and the initial lack of built in wi-fi for the 360.

The multiplayer thing is easy to explain. It's there because they want you to play the game as long as possible and not trade it in as well as they want to sell overpriced map packs and new buffs/weapons after the initial point of sale. Sure they come up with new singleplayer scenarios but those are harder to make than just moving a few objects around a map and charging $15 for it.

1. X360 hardware and accessories - I won't limit my critique to the RROD because while I experienced that, what caused me to trade in my X360 was when my $100 wireless adapter failed (unlike the console, MS didn't extend the warranty on peripherals). 2. PS3 launch price - I figured the X360 was going to be the generation's equivalent of the Dreamcast (not that it would die, but that its strong first year sales wouldn't keep it in the lead) until I heard the $600 launch price of the PS3. Its like Sony thought they were in a bidding war with MS ($400? I bid $600, who is the loser now? :) ). 3. Dennis Dyack and Julian Eggebrecht - Two idiots who were once competent, respected game designers but who are now jokes due to not only releasing garbage games, but defending their garbage games with frothing mouthed fervor. As I've observed before, even the best developers sometimes make mistakes (or just design decisions that aren't univerally loved). What separated the men from the boys is whether they say 'I screwed up, I won't make the same mistake twice' (in the run-up to Heavy Rain, David Cage was honest about the fact the ending of Indigo Prophecy was a disaster) or 'Waaaaah, you gamers don't recognize my genius, I hate you!'. 4. EA Big - Inbetween SSX, NBA Street and Def Jam Vendetta, there were some really great games released under the 'Big' heading on the Xbox and PS2. The games on the current gen consoles are so horrible I suspect the teams were secretly working for Bobby Kotick. For example, the second Def Jam was a fun brawler where one would slam opponent's heads in car doors, bust bottles over their heads, slam them repeatedly into jukeboxes and toss them in front of trains. The last Def Jam toned down the combat, introduced business sim elements (really?) and introduced buildings that danced to the beat (like an old Looney Tunes cartoon). 5. KOEI - They roll out 2,584 Dynasty Warriors knockoffs but can't be bothered to release one Romance of the Three Kingdoms game!? Booooooooo!

I would say the Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-on was an epic fail.

I would also say Sony not including rumble with their $600 console qualifies as well.

It's probably too early to declare Kinect an epic fail, but we all know better. :)

1. RROD - Having 5 different systems crap out is not my idea of money well spent. Shame on Microsoft for screwing everyone over and also not covering the T-# errors that also happened and that should have been covered as well. When the next line of consoles drop my trust in Microsoft won't be very strong. 2. MW2 - Being the most hyped game since Halo 2 or GTA4 I can't really understand how they had years to make it but then not even beta test it or do something about all the cheating and bs things that happen on that game every day. They don't fix leaderboards, get rid of items that create a cheating environment (Tactical Insertion comes to mind), and now just throw out 2 map packs that contain just as much MW1 maps as anything new. This game has all the elements to be great, but they just let it remain the screwed up mess it became.

Quit picking on Dennis Dyack. That's like beating up on a paraplegic. It's just too easy. As far as Koei........sigh. **Plays Dynasty Tactics 2 in remembrance of when they still made games worth playing.**

I'll also throw in:

  • Exclusive pre-order content deals with retailers. Getting a full-version of a game, the things I used to take for granted.
  • Microsoft forcing gamers into XBL and its effect on game development (ex. Resident Evil 5 Gold)

1.) RROD, pretty much self explanatory. I used to deny it, but when I got slapped with 2 of my own it was a very real problem what wasn't just "isolated".

2.) 600$ PS3.

3.) Lair. I'm glad someone else saw that this wasn't the 2nd coming of Christ in this thread.

4.) Bioware post Mass Effect 1. Lemme demonstrate.

NPC says something

You have 3 choices.

1.) What would Jesus say?

2.) Meh?

3.) What would Satan say?

Either fill in the rest of the gameplay with something that Gears of War does better or something that was done in Baldur's Gate.

5.) Wiggle waggle as a substitute for button pressing claiming itself as "innovative gameplay". No, what should have been in the first two years of the Wii's life was something that was added on for 50 dollars later in its life cycle.

Alright, lets see if I can do this.

5. Crappy ports to the PC.

4. Piracy protection.

3. PS3 $600 price tag.

2. DLC

1. Xbox Live

To explain:

5. If a game is made for a console, it won't work the same on the PC. GTA IV is an example of this with how badly it runs.

4. Piracy protection hurt the people who legally owned a game more than pirates, and it never even worked. EA making Spore only installable five times comes to mind. Really, EA?

3. I think this one is self explanatory.

2. Releasing half a game full-price and then releasing the other half in several $5 - $10 installments is a load of crap. If you want to release more content for something somebody already paid for, then do it for free or release an expansion with that content and a ton more content worth the price tag.

1. A monthly fee for online play? Really, Microsoft? I can't play anything online because I can't afford the monthly fee. If only I knew what my financial situation would be way back when I replaced my 360 the fourth time, I'd have just gotten a PS3 and a bunch of new games due to the price cuts.

Don't worry, your RROD/E74/scratching disk drive/ludicrously loud fan problem will arrive shortly. Also, I'm not an idiot, I didn't buy that piece of crap three times, the two other consoles are the refurbs that MS sent to me.

Probably the biggest fail about the RROD is MS's long insistence at first that there wasn't a systemic problem and that it was an anomaly. Instead of just admitting that they cared more about beating Sony and Nintendo to the market than properly soldering and heatproofing the 360's internals, they charged people for repairs. It was only after there was a serious threat class action lawsuit and MS doing a cost/benefit analysis and determining that it would be cheaper to extend the warranty than to go to litigation that they actually did the right thing.

I probably will get punched in the gut for my list, but here goes:

#1. the $600 price tag on the PS3.

#2. The exclusion of Rumble from the PS3 controller.

#3. The vast amount of RROD problems that plagued alot of 360 owners (myself, including).

#4. Alot of the multiplat titles that looked and ran poorly on the PS3. I don't think it's an issue anymore, however.

#5. PC Gaming Alliance.

5. Sonic The Hedgehog 2006- Abysmal. Shame on you Sega. 4. PS3 Launch Price- I dunno if 599 USD was a smart idea. Especially with the 360 released. 3. Third Party Support for Wii- Already Mentioned, but had to recap on how poor it is... 2. 8001050F Error- You guys remember that error? Leap year Bug??? Yeah... apparently only the Slim models worked on March 1, 2010. All other models weren't able to connect to the PSN... Playing offline games was hard task too... 1. Red Ring of Death/ Yellow Light of Death- Hardware failures. Thank goodness for warranties...

1. Red Ring of Death, I pretty much had a new 360 every year because of that cursed failure. 2. Ubisoft's draconian DRM 3. Bobby Kotick 4. DLC, what ever happened to great expansion packs? (apart from Cataclysm, of course) Thats pretty much the stuff that managed to either deeply offend me, or had me raging hard for a few minutes.

For me it is:

1. RROD. I'm suprised XBOX owners put up with it. MS should be pretty ashamed for rushing that thing out.

2. Shovelware (Mostly third parties dumping on the Wii and DS and not providing their own innovations).

3. 'HD' Because it was a major barrier to entry and incurred many expenses such as new TVs. But also because it was used for hype. It also forced developers into not thinking about different aesthetics and visual st.yles. It's mostly all the same.

4. Blatant copying, such as the mii avatars by MS, and motion controls etc.

5. Activision (especially bobby kotick) and their foul practices and bully tactics. They just care about money; plain and simple.

(6. gamers themselves for continuing to fund the big corporate machines such as activision and EA.)

Thank goodness for warranties...Inub0i
I forgot about leap year. I'm glad I have a slim.
