Among the myriad of problems in game "journalism," one thing that stands out is how hyped game "journalists" get after a single trailer or demo.

The Bethesda conference confirmed this for me after watching both GT Live and IGN on Twitch and both essentially calling Fallout 4 the game of the century and Bethesda the developer of the millenium. How could any of these people reach any of these conclusions without taking a controller and touring these games firsthand?

In addition to games, I'm a car guy (actually, I'm more of a car guy now). As impressive as it would be to view the Veyron zooming by me at 200 mph, how would I know whether it's a quality machine without learning about its steering feel, cornering capability, brakes, throttle response, interior quality, fit and finish, engine configuration, etc.? I can judge nothing about the car without having the keys in my hand and my butt in the seat turning the wheel.

Again, NONE of these game media people have played any of these future Bethesda games yet they're already on the hype train. Maybe it's the inherent impatience of gamers and the instant gratification (better to be first than right) needed to thrive in most media these days.

You're free to ignore them. That's what I do. I wait for the game's release and the actual reviews. Anything else prior is vaporware.

I don't think so. Personally I love it. Also I'm entirely free to make my own mind up about what I see. Sometimes I agree with their enthusiam about a game, sometimes I don't but everyone's entitled to their opinion.

Your're judging all of game journalism by IGN and GT?

I also don't see what's wrong with getting excited about Fallout 4. New games in 2015 is pretty barren, so it's nice to see another release coming out at the end of the year.

Riding the hype train is what the media and the clueless do. Just ignore it; I do at least.

It's just how business works these days. There's hype everywhere, from new fast food meal combos to sales in department stores. I agree it's really annoying, I feel like I'm being treated like a mindless fool that will buy anything that looks flashy and new. But what can you do, posts on the internet won't really help.

With a game like Fallout 4, you know just by playing the last two Fallout games...that Fallout 4 will be incredible. Why? because it's essentially the same game as Fallout 3/New Vegas. So we kinda are already aware just how great this game will be.

In regards to the whole buzz behind "journalists overhyping games" this isn't an issue that's exclusive to Video Games. Movies, Tv shows and hell even books and comics fall victim to one mans word of mouth speaking too loud.

All I saw were game nerds getting psyched up about a game. These are the people who live and breathe games all day long - these are people so crazy about games that they decided to make a living playing and reviewig them. You see fans of the games (like myself) drooling over these things, but KvO isn't allowed to? When it comes to expectations being dashed, I blame the consumer. It's our problem if we can't maintain some healthy distance from advertisements thrown at us. But as far as a games reveal show goes...I think it's nice to see actual gamers down there reporting on what they saw, instead of some robots.

Gaming journalism is a joke. There are a handful of good gaming Youtube channels that are worth listening to, but as far as gaming websites go and your typical gaming journalist, they can be ignored.
