They should implement realistic hit detection in shooters.

On shooters, you shoot someone in the leg and they seem like they arent even affected by it, you shoot someone in the face and they are still alive with a perfect face like nothing ever happened. I think they should have it where if you get shot in the leg you limp around, if your arm gets shot or blown off you have 1 arm, stuff like that, if you get shot somewhere it affects you and you can bleed out and die, instead of running around like nothing happened.

Red Orchestra and Arma 2 may be worth a look... ;)
But yeah, it's just that most shooters aren't designed with that in mind.

That would make for a boring game though. Oh, I just caught a riccochet in the arm. *reset* Oh, I just got shot in the shin. *reset* I got shot in my bulletproof vest, but as I was laying on the ground, the guy knifed me. *reset* At a certain point, realism is too real...

Soldier of Fortune had a fairly realistic hit detection system... too bad it's example wasn't followed

by other games.

But it would have a cover system, and it would have big battles not just little skirmishes, so big battles would make up for the realism to keep it from getting boring, what do you mean by reset?

I know soldier of fortune 2 probably has the most realisitic hit detection system, if they could use that idea and develope it further you would be wondering if your playing a game or if its real.

Operation Flashpoint had a similar thing to what you described. I remember playing the demo for the first time and by the time the fight was over, my entire squad was dead, all the enemies were dead, and I had been shot in my legs to the point where I couldn't walk. I had to drag myself for about 300m to get back to the chopper.

I agree.

If games started to get this real, they might as well become chores. I just want to have fun.

I don't know - if you took away the ability to quicksave than it'd be a good incentive for the players to play smart. And things like broken bones and bleeding from bullet wounds didn't make Call of Cthulhu any less fun. Or Deus Ex, for that matter.

You would have to restart the level. The combat isn't what would be boring. What would be boring is that as soon as you got hit by anything more than a graze, you'd be dead. If you didn't die outright, you would be out of the fight, and would just as well be dead.

I'd take a Sim over a POS game like MW2 anyday.

Tons of games have this. Open your mind and stop looking at the most popular titles of the year.

There has been a few games like that Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and others but I think the problem is those games just don't have is much mainstream appeal as unrealistic games. Look at CoD4 and MW2, they are like the biggest FPSs ever and they are very unrealistic in that regard.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth still didn't have a realistic system though. If you fell from a height and broke you leg, even with morphine, you wouldn't be able to continue on your quest. These systems brought in some realism in order to bring more to the game, but a completely realistic system would basically end up being a one shot-one kill scenario.

I belieave that army of two was fairly accurate as far as hit detection went, thats only based on what Ive heard in reviews and podcasts though (specifically the hotspot and giantbombcast.)

I haven't seen a shooter that has featured this system yet, and I agree, it should be done. It's always funny to shoot someone in the head in an fps, and there head just bobs back sometimes, like nothing happened.

TheGrayEye

Red Orchestra. All head shots are instant kills. If shot in the hand or arm you drop your gun. Shot in the leg/s you limp or can't move. And it's pretty damn fun.

SWAT 4 and Red Orchestra both have very good hit detection compared to other games. I would reccommend checking them out, there is a demo for SWAT 4.

This would be great for online play, but as for story mode...it'd be too hard.

Cold Winter on the PS2 did this, you could blow off limbs and heads, and it was great... one of the best console shooters ever, if you ask me...

i like were hit detection is at right now. in most shooters, I have to plug you in the head with a Sniper for a 1-hit kill. could you imagine Halo3 mp if one shot from an assault rifle to the dome did you in? *shivers*

I mean, I like a challenge but dang

although some shooters do have pretty realistic hit damage. America's Army was . . . a gruelling experience.

SWAT 4 is the only game I've played with a function like this. It was really nice too. It made the game more challenging, and I like that.
