Never buy a used 360. Period. The system failure rates among the 360 (not counting the slim models) is the highest in gaming history and one of the highest among all products in the world.
That being said get a slim model, also I assume you have another system already (like a PS3), if you do then look at the exclusives for 360. If you think they justify the purchase then go for it, if you don't have another system then the 360 is a good system to get. Just look at the overall package.
Also you will have to pay for XBL. So that is something to consider.

well lucky for you i do have PS3, and a stupid Wii. like is aid before im a PC kind of guy but i just want a 360 to play a few games that i always wanted to buy that never came out on the PS3 or PC. ( Gears of War 2 and 3, Ace Combat 6).
but yeah i bought the holiday bundle pack, which came ( if you read the post right above yours).
2 wireless controllers, a 250GB "slim" 360( i dont see what is slim about it its just smaller but not slim like the PS3 slim or the PS2 Slim), 2 rechargeable battery packs along with the charger, a racing game and Skyrim. for $249, which i think its not bad, BUT i forgot the BIG down side for having a 360 is the stupid $50 Xbox live,
Xbox Live is a bit pricey but there's a lot of stuff on it. If you bit the bullet and bought a 360 I'd say don't look back and just enjoy it. I've certainly had many hours of enjoyment with mine.
believe me i havent looked back. im enjoying it actually, time to get a game list going.
