Yes, I would be interested on how people feel about this game too. The guy who reviewed this game also gave Duke Forever a 3.5. So, he has a credibility issue. I am hearing that it's not as great as the Original Alice that was release on the PC in the year 2000.
I love the game. Its my favorite platformer this gen. Never really liked ratchet and haven't liked mario since Sunshine.
The controls are solid, the art direction is great and there's a constant increase in enemy variety. Platforming is fun and has a more retro feel. There are a few alternative paths here and there and it isn't "automatic climbing" platforming like Assassin's Creed or Uncharted. The weapons are also solid and you have access to all of them all the time. You don't have to open your menu to choose a new weapon, so it makes the combat flow. Characters are memorable; Chesire Cat FTW.
With that said, some areas simply drag. While a brand new area is usually awesome and there are some levels that never lose the aesthetic charm there are other levels that are just boring. Exploring becomes almost routine, and while its fun to shoot pig snouts and find key holes it becomes predictable in a sense. The story is good but it doesn't really get going until later chapters.
Brilliant game, really enjoyed it. I made a topic about it earlier so not much more to say about it other then that. Oh there is one thing actually. HAIR! A game protagonist with freaking HAIR! Hair that moves! Breath of fresh air I am so sick of skin heads because it's easier on the designers.
It's overall a good experience, the battles and platforming work great and the minigames are fun. Also I like how you can find references on why Alice has some stuff in her fantasy. But there are also things that bug me, I hoped for more weird stuff in her fantasy and sometimes it feels like they badly wanted to increase the playtime which leads to some regions getting repetitive. They should have added one or two more regions so far (middle of chapter 4, the first part of chapter 4 fantasy is what I wanted to see more of: Just weird stuff). Dunno it's just the german version, but when Alice collects something she remembers it's extremly loud
Started playing the game after finishing the first one, so far I'm enjoying it. Fighting those one eyed teapots is annoying though, they take a lot of punishment.
Definitely one of the more refreshing games of the year so far - and I'm glad it's a third person platformer for a change and wasn't turned into yet another FPS like so many games are these days.
I picked up the original recently, and I can't seem to get into it. It seems to require a lot of trial and error, so I don't feel particularly enthusiastic about playing it.
So my question for those who have played the second one: do you think I'd feel like I'm missing out if I jump ahead to madness returns?
Well missing out on the first might not create the same kind of connection from seeing Wonderland looking more healthy, as well as Alice's struggle with her mental health.
The second game has connections to the first game like a snowglobe memorial of a character from the first game near the beginning of the game and the remains of an enemy from the first game as well.
The first game is fiddly to play due to the FPSform of controlson a third person platformer, it takes practice to do well at it. I completed the first game this morning, took a fair amount of trail and effor which was a nice change form the usual hand holding of games today.
It's up to you though.

I also suggest you add the Madly Enhanced pack, which improves the visuals a great deal (including that of Alice & all models of enemies and other characters), weapons have ben re-balanced and a few gameplay features have ben polished up.

Hey thanks for the link. If they realease the original on Steam I would definitely try it out.
