I'm not a fan of the series or the developer, but the shotdown is a bit surprising given that Homefront's 1.1 million sales in NA put it right below Pokemon when it released. *Shrugs* Someone pointed out in the comments section of the link below that THQ had stated that Homefront needed 2 million sales to be profitable (the initial shipment was 2.5 million IIRC).

I watched all the videos, was very excited. When I put it in my 360 it didn't look like anything I saw. It was almost like it had original XBOX Graphics. That is what I found dissapointing.

Bummer. Always sad to see people out of a job.

Very strange that would close them down despite the amazing performance of Homefront at retail. Businesses make some weird choices sometimes.

What's interesting is that Homefront put up bigger numbers than both Crysis 2 and KZ3, so if Homefront didn't turn a profit...

*Shakes head* I think the fps rush is high idiocy. Its the most popular genre, but really, how many such games can the market support? Due to online play, one can't wait until people 'finish' CoD and Halo, one has to try to lure people away from active communities.

I actually thought less of Homefront before I tried the multiplayer demo, it's a decent shooter, better than most games I've played online. Oh well. The worst thing about this is big software houses seem to have shortened the deadline for a studio to make it big. Kaos studios only made 2 games (average games, ok) and already they were labeled as a failure and got their plug pulled

Sayonara irrelevant Call Of Duty clone developers. The FPS market is a fat bloated overdone mess at this point anyways.

To be fair Homefront wasn't that great of a game, but I hate to see people lose their jobs.

Doesn't help either that everyone's dead set on delivering similarly Call of Duty-esque games rather than try and draw people in with something different. Hard to find success when everyone is essentially copying each other almost entirely.

Well that's pretty surprising. I thought that Homefront did pretty well for itself sure it didn't put up CoD numbers but not many can. The FPS genre is a tough market to crack right now.

It's worth noting that Kaos only developed the console version of Homefront, while the PC version was made by Digital Extremes, the guys behind the Unreal series. No idea of how the two versions of the game compare though

Word on the street is they just didn't want to pay the high rent/salary/tax costs required to keep a studio going in NYC, especially since the area doesn't have much of a talent pool to draw on. The rumor has always been that they were just going to move the studio to Montreal after Homefront shipped, so that they could get the tax breaks and also effectively lay off most of the studio without paying severence. But I guess they just opted to close it instead.

I've said a few times after Homefront shipped, that with the story that the game had, they had a good 12 hrcampaign right there in front of them. The multiplayer should've been done without perks and the other garbage that CoD does. It would've been much better.

The huge marketing blitz did its job, but they're not going to fool gamers twice, so the same people will likely be reformed into another studio where another mediocre game will be carried by a huge ad push with edgy plots to fool more gamers into buying a subpar game.

Good. I may feel sorry for the everyday workers who were just doing their job making that crappy, derivative of a game, but I'm tired of gamers embracing crap. Bad companies deserve to die. Bad games deserve to fail.

I find this surprising. Despite Homefront apparently being a bad game, it did really well. It's too bad that people are losing their jobs, but it's the nature of the beast!

THQ closing down a studio for an under-performing game?! I'm shocked. But why should that matter, it's sold like close to 2 million copies on just the Xbox 360 and PS3 so far, plus whatever it sold on PC, shouldn't that have easily made up for development and marketing cost with everything else being profits? Anyhow, I thought it was a terrible move releasing this game two weeks away from the end of the fiscal year, sales would have barely made a dent in the annual revenues.

Thats awful, not good to see more people out of a job. As far as I know, Homefront did good at retail, and I thought it was a pretty good game at that.

Only reason that ever happened was because people out there got curious enough to buy the game and to see what it was all about, hence all of those copies being sold. As long as they make money of itt, sequels will happen.

Not so strange. If Prey is getting a sequel, anything can. Besides, I never heard anyone saying Homefront was bad, aside from someone who paid $60 for it

I have a friend who plays a fair amount of CoD multiplayer, and he said Homefront's Multiplayer is WAY better than CoD.

Homefronts singleplayer is the joke, multiplayer is fine.
I believe quite a few people expected a tense and serious singleplayer, it turned out to be a massive deception.

I was one of those (never played it) who expected a good single player campaign. I was disappointed when people were saying its only 5hrs long. Kaos had a 12 hour campaign right in front of them with the backdrop that the game is set in.
