Did anyone noticed lately that some thrift stores are starting to put big price tags on video games ?? there are two stores in my city that I always go to since many years , that are starting to do that and it is starting to worry me , those stores are the only last places we can find old video games at very low prices beside garage sales and flea markets

Today I saw Final Fantasy VIII black label priced at 34.99 in a thrift store ... normally the price would be lower then 10$ in those places

and a psx console with street fighter vs marvel for 39.99 ... back in the time I usualy saw thoses consoles for only 9.99

so I hope they go back to low prices because those places are very important to me , most of my findings comes from their stores ..

did anybody noticed the same thing ??

*sorry for my poor english*

I don't shop for Videogames at Thift stores. That is the very last place to look for games. So some thift stores have dicovered that videogames sell. But are clusless about videogames true worth.

The Super mario brothers 1 and Duck hunt combo cartridge for $15.00? It is not worth that. Try trading in in at a proper used Videogame store. You will be lucky if they even take it. But that is one such price I saw at a thift store.

Thift stores are the absolute last place to shop for videogames.

Only game I've ever found in a thrift shop was Sonic 2 with the cart stolen. Good thing I already had the game.

This has actually been happening for quite a while now. I've been hunting for games at thrift stores for over three years and I've seen it get progressively worse over the years. When I first started, I rarely ever saw games being sold for over $5, and that includes games like Suikoden, Parasite Eve, Contra, and TMNT Turtles in Time, all noteworthy finds I got my hands on in the early years of my thrift store game chasing. However, over time stores starting catching wind of what some of these games were worth and of course they got greedy.

I rarely look for video games at thrift stores, which is sad because it used to be where I found most of my gaming deals. If I happen to pass by any thrift stores on my way to someplace else I'll go inside real quick and see what I can find, however there are a few stores I don't even bother with given how they either post all teir stuff on Ebay or have ridiculous prices. One such store is a Goodwill that I know for a fact posts all their video games on Shopgoodwill.com and Ebay, and another is an ARC thrift store that marks their games up to insane prices, like $15 for a loose Sonic the Hedghog, or $40 for .hack Infection.

Now I usually get most of my gaming deals from a local flea market, several used game stores, a used media stores owned by GoHastings and the occassional garage sale. Maybe someday thrift stores will stop being so greedy, but I kind of doubt it.

None of the thrift stores around me ever get games in anyway(other than outdated sports titles and maybe I'll see the original Sims once in a while).

The only good deals I find in person these days are via garage/yard sales at this point. Aside from Gamestop the only game dedicated stores around me disappeared years ago but reflecting back even then, their prices weren't exactly amazing. I'm just used to a good fight for whatever I want at this point.

I have 3 Goodwills I visit, one I go to maybe twice a month just cus they Ebay price everything but I get lucky once and awhile. The other 2 I still find stuff at least twice a week. Saw New Super Mario Bros U used marked $45 at the one GW but another had a copy for $10. If anyone here visits cheapassgamer then you should be familiar with the Thrift Store Finds thread. People still find good stuff for cheap. But its kinda sad when they think they can slap Ebay and Gamestop prices on stuff that they had donated to them.

I did pick up a used GC controller for $5 just because...and it works great! As for games, it would depend on the game. I'd rather get books and furniture from thrift stores

I know a guy that used to work at the Thrift stop near me and I'm sure they are all the same. Employee's always get the first pick of everything, it don't even have to sit on the shelf at all they just keep it in the back. They are supposed to pay for it still.

But that don't always happen. The guy I know used to take most of the games when they came in, then take them to a pawn shop down the street. He don't work there anymore but there are never any games. I asked him about it and he said that there are two girls that do the same thing. Probably about 80% of that pawn shops videogames are from them

While I guess it's fair, it pisses me off when I hear employees doing this. I can't blame them though, because I'd do the same in their position if I saw Chrono Trigger or Megaman Legends 2 come through the door.

I know of two places, one a thrift store and one a used CD shop where one or several of the employees do this, however they usually put the valuable stuff that comes in on Ebay. I do catch them slipping sometimes and still am able to find some good stuff that escapes their notice, at least at the CD shop.

Well, Rarity Guide indicates that FF7 is somewhat rare, as the black label ver. has a rating of 81% rare. I got my copy of FF7 from a thrift store for almost $40

Why is Chrono Trigger so overpriced on places like Ebay and Amazon? It's stupid.
