TLOU2's Laura Bailey has received death threats

This is the sadder part of the gaming industry where people seem to hold a voice actress personally responsible for the death of their favourite character. This is in part due to some of the atmosphere created by critics of this game.

We have had reasonable criticism of this game and that is fair. We have also had some ranty criticism and whilst these people are mostly exaggerating their views for page views they do seem to validate the decision for some to send these vile tweets to a woman who was playing a role.

This type of behaviour cannot be condoned ever. I am pretty upset that this has happened. Shouldn't this be a catalyst for people to look at the type of material they are producing?

Created by the atmosphere of critics? The death threats are from outliers, only unwell people would do something like this. Any criticism of the game is just that, criticism of the game. Anyone that goes beyond that can only blame themself.

This shit happens all the time. People on the internet are nasty. We've known this for over 15 years now.

This reminds me of the guy who gave UC4 a 4/10 received many death threats and petitions to have his review taken off of Metashitic.

Sad and pathetic that people send death threats over a freaking video game these kids must be the same losers that attended the Covid -19 party.

The absolute worst creatures the planet has to offer. Scum.

I hope they one day realize how shitty they are and dive deep into an internal struggle which makes them question everything about themselves, eventually emerging a better person and helpful member of society.

There are several things to take into account here. In the first place, it is not possible to justify the act of these people by saying that "Internet is like that" becauss Internet is only there because there is reality to support it. I think that the elder people in this Forum remember how similar acts were performed back in the day and ended up extending to the "real world". Plus, if we are part of a community which Internet is, we should be able to condem the behavior that is not proactive in any community. In the second place, this says a lot about the other people we share this space with. They do not have a reality of their own so they can contrast it with their fictional or digital self they must have on a video game. When they see something so precious of their reality be affected or modified by somehting, they try to find something to blame, in this case, a someone. That's pretty fu***** scary. In any case, this is sad on all fronts.

Incidents like this make me wonder if there's something to that old adage that violent video games can have adverse effects on certain kinds of people. Not to mention that Laura Bailey had absolutely nothing to do with the script of the game, she's just an actor.

I couldn't imagine being as upset as some people I've seen about something so bland.
