There's too many fps's coming out, and not all of them are as good as halo 3, or the orange box. I mean, when is bungie or ea going to come to their senses and make a decent third-person shooter?

... or Crysis, let's not forget about that.
The reason they keep making them is because we keep buying them.

Seems like FPS's will go the way of the platformer: about one or two good ones a year, then a whole bunch of god-awful pieces of crap.
there aren't many that do anything for the genre. only about 2 percent of the fps' actually do something for the genre, whether it be better graphics, new gameplay elements, new gameplay modes or what have you. but many games just recycle the same adrenaline driven gaming experience that we all have come to know and love.blooddemon666
so uh.. why is it a bad thing?
The thing is every generation is like this, but what makes this one different is that we have 3 systems spewing out the same genre.
Take the late 90's for instance. The SEGA Saturn constantly spewed out fighting games, the PSone constantly spewed out RPG's, the PC spewed out FPS, and the Nintendo 64 spewed out Platformers. Every system had it's genre that it had too much of but overall as a whole gaming was a little more varietyed due to exclusives playing a big part of the market.
In terms of now developers mostly focus on more then one console, the PS3, PC (to a lesser extant), and the 360 not only constantly have shooters coming out, but they are usually amongst the same games as well. The Wii on the other hand is trying to be different, but hasn't really found it's identity yet with few games cattered to it coming out. And luckly handhelds still hold much variety.
That's my hypothesis anyway.

I see games that don't try anything new as a hinderance to the gaming industry. Gaming can, and sometimes is, viewed as an art form. But if you have every artist making their own rendition of the mona lisa... it gets stagnant and dry.I miss RPGs.
Why is there only about 1 good RPG a year if you are lucky.
I wish Bioware made games more often!!!

Even though I too want more RPGs, I would leave Bioware out of it. Even Mass Effect, a game that was what, three years in development feels decidedly clunky. I don't want them to rush their games more than they already do, or they're going to suffer.
