and coming fresh outta playing 4 and before that 3, i am well, disappointed just like many others were in 2003, i dont think it wouldve been that bad if i played it after 1, but after 3 and 4, 2 lacks ridiculous amounts of variety as set forth by 3, i almost cant believe that in dmc2, theres pretty much only one sword combo and its nowhere near the fluidity level of 3 and 4, wow i heard it was bad before, but maybe it became even worse due to the releases of 3 and 4!

although i have to say, out of all dmcs, im finding this one the hardest to get S rankings on all parts, even dmc3 i had a few SSs rolling here and there, but in 2? damn i cant do that for beans, although the game is still pretty easy.

I just played it for the first time the other day myself.

It definitely sucks. I don't know what Capcom was thinking in 2003. They also ruined the Dino Crisis franchise that same year with a game that may be worse than DMC2. Lots of crap from them that year.

DMC2 just felt wrong. They had the vibe, but everything else was broken. The characters didn't seem right, including Dante. The combat felt slow and weak. Most bosses you could beat by just standing back and shooting at without getting hit. The story was 10 times worse than usual. It was just an uninspired game, as proven by bosses like INFECTED CHOPPER!

A friend of mine is playing through all four DMC's (for the first time) in order, and I keep telling him to skip DMC2, but he won't listen...

...oh why won't he listen?

Ah yes, the Crapcom days. On top of horrible stuff like DMC2, they launched Dino Crisis 3, a game everyone knew would be terrible from day one, and a prime example of why change for the sake of it is AIDS to a videogame. (Also see FF12 and Burnout Paradise) For a long time, it seemed they had pretty much lost any remote trace of talent they ever had. Those were also the days before Sega was purchased by Sammy, and was still relevant in any way to the industry. (as opposed to being an Atari-esque joke now) Viewtiful Joe may have flopped at retail, but it saved their reputation as an awesome developer. I still can't believe though, the same people who made DMC2, went on to make DMC3. That period in history shows what happens when you listen to petulant whiners with frail egos, (DMC was too hard! MAKE IT EASIER!) and the actual DMC fans. (the bliss of DMC3)

DMC 2 was so bad in fact that after having LOVED the first one i played the 2nd one and have since never played a single DMC game. Not 3 and not 4.

It was bad enough to turn me off of the entire series probably forever.

Well, when I started playing the game it seemed fun enough. After a couple of hours, it just died on me. All those cool moves with no real impact on gameplay, the repetitive battles and the uninspired bosses just ruined it for me.

It was riding around a "6.0" for me until I killed a boss with the missle launcher without ever moving Dante or taking any damage. That is when it became mediocre for me.... so bad I never even popped in the other disc to play as whatever-her-name-is.

i used to think the only severe flaw with the game is that it is too easy but that is not the only case, the combat is just so simple, you can string together crap like in 3, 3 had had insane combos if known how to pull off.
