1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Sonic & Knuckles (I think both should count as 1 game, as the 2 hooked together is how the game is intended to played in it's entirety, and it's just an epic 2D Sonic experience).
2. Sonic the Hedgehog
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
[QUOTE="Heirren"]Lol Sonic 3 isn't even any good. That game is one ugly duckling.Shenmue_Jehuty
lol how so?
It ventured too far off what made sonic, sonic. It's also got terrible art direction--it had to have been done by different people, or had different directors in different area. The level design is horrendous, taking all flow out of the game.Lol Sonic 3 isn't even any good. That game is one ugly duckling.Heirren
no.
proper order:
1. sonic 3 and knuckles
2. sonic 2
3. sonic cd

It just felt like it encouraged you to explore more while still having those fun parts where you got to dash through parts of the level. It also had the best graphics and soundtrack of any 2D Sonic game imo.

The first two Sonics had a flow to them. You had the encouraged exploration due to rings for emeralds, contrast that with a fair high score system, and then put that up against some segments of blazing timing. The third game more or less completely got rid of this. Sonic 3 plays way too slow, and the visuals are just muddy--the colors look like they belong in Jungle Strike. The first two game have the angles and that cool factor, while the third feels like a cash-in done by a new team.[QUOTE="Shenmue_Jehuty"][QUOTE="Heirren"] It ventured too far off what made sonic, sonic. can't find any fallicies in my logic evidenced by your lack of a comeback

1. Sonic and Knuckles (lock-on made huge replay value)
2. Sonic Adventure (the fishing and gem hunting was annoying but overall it was a great 3D adventure)
3. Sonic and the Secret Rings (starts out slow but once you get going its like one big theme park ride)
Sonic 3 was great. The graphics were not muddy and the flow was fine. Its focus was still running through. If the graphics look "bad" anywhere its because its 16-bits being pushed. They obviously had to update it over 1 and 2.
in no particular order , Sonic , Sonic 2 , Sonic CD
Sonic 3 was also very good, but that was the end of it.
You should download the HD release on PSN/XBLA/Steam. It's quite possibly one of the best retro-to-HD conversions out there.1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
2. Sonic and Knuckles
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
I've never played Sonic CD, so that's why it's not listed.

I no longer have a PS3, but I'll probably download it on Steam.
I don't understand why most 3D Sonics get so much hate. (Even the classic Sonic Adventure.)
GeoffZak
They aren't as fun, for me. I hate playing as the other characters. I hate the the parts that don't involve Sonic running and jumping though fast-paced levels (which those slow parts seem to happen a lot in a lot of the 3D games). And I've never liked the Chaos. I don't see the appeal in babying some make-believe digital animal.
On the other hand, the 2D Sonic games are straight-forward: Lot's of run & jump action through perfectly designed levels and great boss battles without the interruption of stupid city missions or having to talk to ridiculous furry characters in a hotel on the beach. And you can play the game as Sonic, you know, the title character; without being forced to play as some stupid cat or walrus or something that's anything but fast and fun play to as.

I think the levels in Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 06 are a lot more well designed. Running around as Sonic in a 3D environment is more fun for me. Sonic 1, 2 and 3 on the Genesis were all amazing games, they're all classics, but Sonic Adventure is, in my opinion, the absolute best Sonic game.
I love the adventure fields from SA1 and I'm so happy they brought them back in Sonic 06. I love the freedom and I love being able to explore.
Sonic Team needs to bring them back.

I stopped reading at well designed.
Am I the only that enjoyed playing as the other characters in SA & SA2? Don't get me wrong, the Sonic levels where by far the best, but I always enjoyed the other characters gameplay styles as well; nice change of pace every now and then.
Hell, I enjoyed the clumbsy fatass, Big the Cat levels. Gotta get dat froggy :P

The game does not hold up well today. You can easily go right through walls or fall through the floor for no reason. The camera is not the best. In some spots, you need to have Sonic jump in order to spin the camera completely around. I liked the first game on Gamecube, but I could not play that again now. The hub world missions to unlock the action stages were rather annoying. The dialogue is horrible, even for a Sonic game. Playing as the robot guy, Big the Cat, and Amy Rose were stupid. The Knuckles and Tails levels were not that bad. Obviously Sonic was the best of the bunch.

I hate how people are so easily influenced by the critics.
Critics never know good games anyway.
Have a mind of your own.
Reviews don't mean sh*t, it's just their opinion.
Why is it wrong for me to like the game just because most critics don't like it?
