What are in your opinion the best NES games, other than any of the really big games, so no Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Punchout, Battletoads, Final Fantasy, etc.

-The Battle of Olympus - A great action-RPG set in Ancient Greek Mythology -Bionic Commando - Capcom's crowning acheivment on the NES, IMO. The perfect balance of platforming and run-n-gun, and it's challenging to boot. -Contra- The greatest run-n-gun game on the NES -Crystalis - A top-down view action-RPG that is even better than Legend of Zelda. Better graphics, better music & sounds, better storyline, and an actual level-up system. -DuckTales - Arguably the best platformer on the NES, not counting the Super Mario Bros. series. -Life Force - One of the best space-ship shooters on the NES. -PinBot - A great pinball game, if you're into that kind of thing. -Star Soldier- An early space-ship shooter for the NES that I grew-up on. -Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game - The best beat-em up on the NES, IMO.

My favorite NES games (excluding the big ones):

Mega Man 3 (not sure if this is one of the most popular games, so I'm just gonna include it) - When it comes to Mega Man, most people I talked to either like 1 or 2 the most, but for me MM3 is the best in all aspects. MM1 was a bit too hard and MM2 was way too easy in my opinion. MM3 offers a decent challenge and has good music and graphics (as every other MM game).

Darkwing Duck - It's sort of like Mega Man, which is a good thing. The music is great (for NES standards).

Frankenstein: The Monster Returns - Decent game that's much like Castlevania.

Life Force - probably the best Shoot-'Em-Up on the NES.

depends on your definition of "big one"

but other than the famous mario, zelda, punchout games, I love RC Pro-am, and Cobra Triangle. But however both games dont have a password or save feature, so they are a bit difficult (for me at least). Tetris is the current NES game i'm playing alot. and of course Mario3.

Then you haven't come across the stinkers yet. As many good games as there are on the NES (and there's a lot) there is just as much shovelware. Conan immeadly comes to mind, as does The Uncanny X-Men. It's usually licensed games like that that are the bad ones.

Don't feel embarassed. I never played the second one. But I really had fun with the first one on SNES, which I believe was also released on NES. Another guilty pleasure like that for me was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers for the SNES.

it's no guity pleasure, the Power ranger games were awesome on the SNES. Power rangers: the movie was an awesome sega megadrive game And 2 of the best fighters on the game gear were power ranger games. Even the gameboy color had great power ranger games. It's amazing how a children's TV show is filled with so many great games

And it was arguably the only good Batman game ever released until Arkham Asylum came out.

I guess it really is a shame the batman video games went downhill after that. You could argue the next batman games that were good only came out a year ago: Lego batman and arkham asylum

Little Samson, totally underappreciated NES game made by Taito, came out too late, should've been redone for the SNES. Basically, it's an action platformer, and you can play as a boy, a mouse, a golem, and a dragon. Boy can shoot bells, is agile, and can cling to walls, mouse is REALLY agile and can also cling to walls, but is smaller and weaker, and can throw/plant bombs. Golem and Punch up, down, left, right, is slow but very strong in terms of attack/hp. Dragon can fly and breathe/charge up fire. The graphics are some of the best on the NES and couldn't be improved, and the music is catchy/fun. A must play, but very rare, and a lot of the copies up for sale nowadays are reproduction carts due to the extreme rarity. This game's all official and licensed, and is simply rare due to the fact that hardly anyone bought it. Spread the word, play Little Samson!
