Some games deserve more, some franchises deserve another chance. You have franchises like Half-Life and Fable that haven't been around for a while, but you know that they will get a sequel at some point. However, some franchises seem to just vanish, after just a single bad installment even strong franchises can crumble to dust. Here is a list of franchises i think have a lot more to give:
Honorable mentions: Unreal Tournament, SSX, Black and White, Burnout, Prince of Persia, Golden Sun.
10. Silent Hill
After P.T. terrified and blew people away a few years ago, the project that was suppose to morph into a new Silent Hill game self-destructed and died out. These days horror games is either some small indie horror title or some action-adventure with shotguns. Silent Hill could be the game horror fans truly want, a fully-fledged big budget terrifying experience.
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Few franchises have been milked to death as hard as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, so it's not that hard to see why this franchise petered out. Hopefully the newly announced Session can fill some gap, but do you remember those first few Tony Hawk games? they were incredible, absolutely incredible. I feel a need to get addicted to some skating combo system yet again and i hope someone is gonna jump back on the Tony Hawk train.
8. Viva Pinata
Who in the world wouldn't want to see a stunning garden on the Xbox One, even the old games still look great. There should be plenty that could be done with a new Viva Pinata, and it seems odd that Microsoft haven't tried to get another one developed. Most people like Viva Pinata and it seems like a solid exclusive they could need right now, and they always embraced that game back in the day so it's odd that it seems to be dead.
7. Dead Space
How could they leave this franchise dead after Dead Space 3? yes it was disappointing, but people love Dead Space and Dead Space 2, those games were excellent and there gotta be millions of players that would jump on a proper Dead Space 4 if it managed to hit the same quality as the first 2. It doesn't make sense that a new Dead Space wouldn't try to write the wrongs of the third entry.
6. Twisted Metal
Twisted Metal Black was one of the best multiplayer games back in the days, but the vehicular combat genre seems to have been exhausted. The 2012 Playstation 3 version was good, but the hype never hit Twisted Metal Black levels, something was missing. Can they recreate the magic of the old games? who knows, but i would surely like to see someone try it.
5. Turok
The first 2 games were hardcore brutal shooters based on Doom with the best weapon selection ever created and set in vast semi-open worlds. At release, these games were visually stunning, huge and scored big review scores. They managed to mess up the recent Turok game and people just abandoned the franchise, but those who still remember the old Dinosaur hunting games can only dream of what a proper modern Turok game could have been.
4. Timesplitters
The spiritual successor to Goldeneye and Perfect Dark improved greatly with every new entry, the first game was bare bones but the second and third entries leapfrogged it. It was a fantastic offline multiplayer game and seemed destined to become a great online multiplayer shooter. But alas, Timesplitters was lost for some reason and i doubt we will ever see this franchise again even though it feels like it could have been so much more.
3. Onimusha
Before Demon Souls, there was Onimusha. The fascinating Japanese historical story and the brooding atmosphere hooked many a fan, and even though a new Onimusha would probably be a Dark Souls clone, people would still love to see it.
2. No One Lives Forever
The first game, released in 2000, was lauded as one of the best shooters in the world. There were people who preferred it over Quake and Half-Life. It had an amazing style that seemed drenched in 70's James Bond and had a flair and quality to it that i expected to be praised for a long time. Now few even remember the game. They released a sequel that was great as well and it got great critical acclaim, but the studio then went for some bizarre spin-off game that bombed as hard as you can possibly imagine, and the franchise has been tangled in license hell ever since. But this is one of the top old franchises that truly deserves a second chance.
1. Dungeon Keeper
Few RTS games are more interesting than Dungeon Keeper. Building out your base and creating an army of monsters was one of the best experiences you could have on the PC all those years ago, and fans were screaming and clawing to finally get their hands on the third game. They even had a trailer for Dungeon Keeper 3 it in the second game. As fate would have it, Bullfrog decided against it. They announced that the game was dead and that they were gonna work on PS2 games. The PC has been waiting for evil to return ever since and fans of old have been waiting in anguish for some news to trickle in, instead we get lackluster copycats like War of the Overworld and Dungeons, while the true spirit of Dungeon Keeper seems lost forever.
