I just commented on Phantasy Star in another thread and realised it fit here too. Dark Force & Profound Darkness used to kick my ass regularly in Phantasy Star 4. That was released 15years ago though - games have generally got a bit easier since then.

I had to use a cheat to beat the elizabeth greene (I think that was her name) boss in Prototype - it was just too crazy hard.

The final boss in Star Ocean: The Last Hope was an absolute nightmare for me. Maybe I was underleveled, or just not prepared enough, but that was 2 hours of my life, trying to stay alive, that I don't want to relive.

Most of the Metal Slug bosses. If you can kill them without losing a life, pat yourself on the back....it's more of a dodgefest than an actual fight.

Still after all this time I'd put my money on the 5 part "boss" fight from Xenogears it's just a grind one can take on the final boss without defeating his four other components but he'll pretty much kill you inside of three rounds andif you do beat the other four components he's still a monster expect a looong drawn out fight were talking well over two hours.

Yeah, and it sucks that is you don't know what you're doing, you may have to re-fight older major bosses in the game, with NO saving between the previous fight and the last fight.

I managed to beat the damn last boss the fourth time I tried, and I was so relieved to finally do so.

( Now that I think about, all Star Ocean games always seem to have incredibly hard last bosses  )

^ ^ I recently beat Star Ocean: Second Evolution on the PSP, and I put in some serious grinding time. I entered Phynal Tower at level 90 something, breezed through the various Wise Men - and just barely squeaked past Gabriel :(

I'm thinking of getting TLH International for the PS3 - this talk of super-hard final bosses is giving me the shivers.

Not really toughest. But right now I'm playing Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner. And it has some of the most annoying boss battles I've ever played.

Basically, the boss battles are made artificially difficult because of the lock-on and the camera. One battle in particular, is when I have to fight a boss mech inside a corridor full of smaller minor mechs. Anyway, I have grab the smaller mechs, and throw them at the boss mech. Problem is that the lock-on targetting and the camera make it almost impossible for me to keep up with the boss. Every time I need to keep the boss in my sights and move in relationship to the boss, the camera and my own mech suddenly rotates, since one of the minor enemies got close enough to me for my ship to automatically lock onto it.

Those kinds of battles are garbage. Because it's like I'm fighting the camera and the lock-on system more than I'm actually fighting the enemy.

I never played The 2nd Runner, but I remember having an extremely difficult time facing off against Anubis at the end of the first game.

No, not even her. Just the final boss of the main story. She's wiped me back into last week in Infinite Undiscovery, don't fancy trying her on any other tri-Ace game.

I beat her in Star Ocean 1, 2 and 3. Never bothered to do the optional stuff in Star Ocean 4...not yet anyways...
