I think it's one of the defining games of the last generation (2 generations ago, now, I guess). But if you didn't like it the first time through, it just might not be for you.
well...i mean did you enjoy the game ie the exploration, feeling of isolation, fights?
i didnt like the gamecube controller (dont shoot me!) but i still played alot of games i love on the cube i just got used to the controller
I'm one of the few that really thought that the game was overrated, and like you I lost interest half way. To me, the second half of the game doesn't get much better, and it's kinda a kick in the groin when you realize you then have to search for all those artifact things in order to get to the finale.
it took me two try , the first time I hated itÂ
Â
the second time I loved it and finished it , and it's now on my top 10 fav games of all time
Â
so yes do it !
I never finished this game before and kinda lost interest halfway through, but I think that may have been because I was playing it with the Wii controller. I have access now to play the Gamecube version, but could controllers simply make a difference to the experience to this game? Not sure wether to to give it another shot or not? enz2
Best game of its generation......a resounding YES!
Loved playing it with the GC controller.

Yes, this is a game that tends to be an acquired taste since it is different, but once people "get" it, it often becomes one of their favorite games of all-time, sometimes THE favorite game. Seen this happen time and time again.
Give it another shot. Â I'm not an FPS fan at all but this game still has awesome gameplay. Â I only played the Gamecube version but I still think the controls are really good. Â My favorite Metroid game of all time and that's saying a lot since sidescrollers are my favorite genre of video games.

It's purely down to patience. I'm afraid it's just one of those games where you have to get lost a few times before you get any where. I remember at least 1/3 of my time in that game was spent being lost :D
I think I'll give it another go then. I'm just not a fan of the Wii controller so I guess it's worth another shot for a different controller. From what I remember, it did have an awesome soundtrack too so I might use that to motivate myself to try it again :o enz2

I think I had a nostalgia-gasm when I clicked the Phendrana Drifts link :) All that's missing is the sound of blaster fire. The combination of the beautiful snow environment, the flying glowing bug things, and that amazing music of Pheandrana Drifts really is breath-taking the first time you experience it. And the graphics are gorgeous in this game. Now you're gonna make me want to go back and play Metroid Prime again. :P
I don't know why you would like the GCN version more unless you like feeling like a box or robot. Personally, I can't go back to the old versions after playing Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Because A LOT of people prefer using a controller to using a Wii Mote.

A LOT? I doubt it. I bet most people just haven't played Metroid Prime Trilogy. I think out of all Wii games, the Trilogy set uses the wii mote and nunchuck best.

Yeah, a lot. Why do you think the GameCube versions of the Resident Evil games and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess are harder to come by?

Resident Evil, I have no idea since I don't care about that series. TP, they made less of the GCN version, and they pretty much didn't promote it in comparison to the Wii version. I think they delayed it here too, and in Japan you had to order that version online, but I don't remember anymore since that was like 7 years ago. I think that's what happened though, but I pre-ordered the GCN version and have never played the Wii version.
Anyway, I'm obviously talking about the Metroid Prime games. If given a choice for most Wii games, I would take the GCN controller if the option is available, but I definitely wouldn't for these games. The gameplay is like night and day if you put the GCN versions against the Trilogy set, and like I previously wrote, I think they use the wii mote and nunchuck the best out of all Wii games.
BTW TC, I'd recommend you bump the sensitivity to max, if you haven't yet, and maybe start out with Corruption. I think that game eases the player best into using motion controls versus how it's presented in the other two.

That's great, but I didn't know you represented the majority of gamers. It's pretty much across the board with gamers that they prefer a traditional controller to a Wii Mote in most situations.

lol, tell me, do you even own the Trilogy set? If the answer is no, or that you've played Corruption only, then please kindly save it. The consensus of what I've read over the years from those that have both, say that the Trilogy set plays better. No need to get so argumentative over this when all I'm implying to the TC is that playing the GCN version probably won't make that much of a difference since the gameplay handles so rigidly. Of course, turning nothing into something is your specialty.

If you can't handle having someone disagree with you, then why even post on message board? I mean it's not like I'm being rude or disrespectful to you or anything.

So I take it that, no, you don't own Prime Trilogy, lol. Instead of dancing around in circles, you could have just said that and accept that you've been exposed since you don't have a basis to stand on.
Anyway, I don't really understand what "discussion" was being had here, because all you've been doing is saying the same thing over, and throwing anything I have said in response to your questions out the window. Maybe if you had actually played Prime Trilogy, we could have had a real discussion about the merits of both versions' gameplay. I'm always open to something like that.

By playing both versions, it helps reduce bias in regards to preference. It's very easy to see both the difference and advantages gained by motion controls by playing both games back to back, versus just seeing how it handles in the more action oriented, Corruption. I also answered your question when it comes to control preference. I'm not going against the mold, and I also feel that using a gamepad is superior most of the time. When it comes to Prime Trilogy, however, it is one of those exceptions. Most people that have played both prefer the new controls over the GCN's, and if you scroll up, there are some posters that share that opinion.

Wii versions has easier enemies, content missing, and Frame Rate problems, and are the inferior versions. it does have debatable but better controls. Most say it does, but if the game is not the same does it matter?Wii versions has easier enemies, content missing, and Frame Rate problems, and are the inferior versions. it does have debatable but better controls. Aren't the particle/shader effects in Prime 1 glitched on Trilogy, and none of them work? It's a shame, because some of the gun effects are really cool (gun freezing when you charge ice beam, heat distortion from plasma/charge beams, etc)
