Now that the Gamecube's era has ended,

Think back...

If the gamecube were to have one game as the overall best game ever for the cube, what would it be?  Also, state your reasons.

For me it's a toss up between RE4 and MGS Twin Snakes.  RE4 changed the way we play RE games and offered such a solid high polished game that very few games can match.  MGS, more of a nastalgia game for me, was a game I'll always regard as an all time favorite.

Metroid Prime.  That was the most atmospheric game ever created, and the graphics were unparalled back when it came out in 2002.

It's between Metroid Prime and SSBM for me... Melee provided countless hours of fun (especially multiplayer), while Metroid Prime is one of the single greatest games i've ever played.

I'll got against the usual MP and RE4 stuff. Tales of Symphonia and F-Zero GX were great. :)

i liked re4 because of the outside look, and the way you can fight in a village was pretty awsome!, i liked that game but not as much as sonic adventure 2 battle!, and i like mega man anniversary collection, right now I'm play the hardest way... with difficulty normal and lives 3!, I'm practicing with the end of the game on mega man 2 right now and it's pretty challenging i wish the mega man games were easier, and i did not get earth bound for Christmas, oh well maybe I'll get it later!, and by the way have any of you guys ever beat illusion of gaia?, i got to the second form of the last boss and then got stuck and dyed... to bad :) lol.

I would say Melee, because it is one of those games that you still play after all these years, and it's still fun.  It might look old, but it doesn't feel dated, and playing 4-player absolutely rocks!!  I would say Melee is in the top 3 games of all time as far as multiplayer goes.

Then I would say WindWaker, because it was not only a great Zelda game, but it had its own style and took its own risks, drastically deviating from the Zelda norm.  There were numerous sidequests, but they were really fun, and all the extras were great, such as all the buried treasure.  Having the instrument not be a woodwind was a creative change, and the boat being your horse was kinda cool.  The story rocked, it definetely kept the saga moving.  The sword techniques that you learned from Orca are pretty cool, like the Huricane spin and stuff.

As far as the one game that rocked the Gamecube: Melee.

After all these years that the Gamecube has been out, people still can't get enough of melee.  Improved in so many ways over the 64 version, the quality multiplied, the QUANTITY multiplied, such a huge game.

Super Smash Bros Melee gets my vote!

I guess if I had to choose, it would probably be Resident Evil 4. Metroid Prime is a close second, but Resident Evil 4 is the total package. You get an amazing story, some of the best boss battles ever, uncensored action, intense gameplay, deviously smart enemies. Plus tons of great unlockables. :)

Ever since project Dolphin ( later to become Gamecube) was annouced back in 1999, I had always been thinking what it would be like to get a "next generation" sequel to Ocarina of Time. Unlike others, I loved Majora's Mask, but it was more of the same presentation-wise. Even though I really loved Wind Waker, it wasn't really what I had in mind. Therefore when they finally announced Twilight Princess, I was happy that the system would get what I actually had desired for so long.

Metriod Prime was awesome. Resident Evil 4 blew me away. But these were pleasant surprises. The real reason I got into the Gamecube in the first place was for Twilight Princess. I may have had to wait for 7 years, but I finally got what I wanted, and it still surpassed my expectations. Amazing. So for me, Twilight Princess is the game of the Gamecube.

I know it's also on Wii, but as far as that's concerned, I look at that as a Gamecube port. Nothing more.

SSBM for me. Me and my friends still play this religiously to this day (except now on the Wii) and have never gotten sick of it. I always feel that multiplayer is the most important aspect of a game. Itis what gives a game unlimited replayability.

Oh, Smash Bros. Melee, without a doubt. It surpassed pretty much any game on any platform in sheer play time for me. It came out really early too, so of course there wasn't much to distract me from it. Which actually became a liablity eventually.....

Wind Waker for me, just an amazing game, regardless of it's Zelda title. The sheer scale of the game just rocked (whole ocean, not main quest). Then again, I havn't played that many GC games. I need to pick up more! Others that are great- Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4.

The easy answer would be Zelda cause it was a great game, but the game I love playing with friends is DON. I like SB, but I thought DON was just more fun.

Resident Evil 4 saved the GameCube. It was there when the system was seen as an afterthought. Then people wanted to play the GameCube again. Unfortunately, the GameCube suffered from 3rd-party shortage and its inability to make online games that nearly put Nintendo on life-support.

I would probably have to say Animal Crossing, because it made use of features that were obscure yet new on the GameCube. Those features really enhanced the gameplay of the game and made it nearly flawless.

The game that rocked the Gamecube can simply be stated in four letters, SSBM. This game has set a bar on fighting games for me. I have always appreciated fighting games, but no other has ever compared to this. The endless competiton in places like MLG (I went to MLG Dallas) and local tournies have started a huge group of gamers to where I could meet up every weekend with new people to play. The skill it takes to play this game, and actually be good at it (unlike some noobs who think its a "kiddy" or a party game) is immense and it gives a new level to this challenging yet fun game. A game that I can base a tournament around that doesn't end up with the same people winning, that proves for a awesome game. If you own a cube' and don't own this game then you might as well get it now, play it straight for a year, for all the time you've wasted.
A very close second though is Tales Of Symphonia.

I think Super Smash Bros Melee is the best game to GameCube, you never get tired of it! It totally rocks when it comes to multiplayer, and so even in singleplayer! After SSBM I say Wind Waker. I haven't played RE 4 or LOZ: TP so I can't say anything about them.

The best game for the Gamecube is Super Smash Brothers Melee. It was the most revolutionary and novel first-party game for the Gamecube, and its value is unmatched by any other game of its gen. My personal favorite game for the Gamecube would be Eternal Darkness, but I can't deny that Melee is a far-superior game.

Metroid Prime is the obvious choice for me.  The best game ever made, quite simply.  Graphics, audio, level design, controls and gameplay are all simply amazing.  I've never played a better game.

Contenders:  Baten Kaitos, Wind Waker, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Pikmin 2, Super Smash Bros., Tales of Symphonia, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes

The 'Cube had some damn fine games.  It's a shame to see it go.

Super Smash Bros. Melee definitely. It was the best game ever made for it, was a hot seller, and great multiplayer. Everyone's heard of Super Smash Bros. Melee. Also, it only came out for GC.

I'd say Soul Calibu 2 actually.Because it was damn good, balanced, very deep and multiplayer friendly game.It has awesome visuals (on gamecube) and playing the game on gamecube controller feels a lot better than ps2 controller.I have duelled with my friends countless times plus I beated the games single player missions and extra missions without even a little boredom.

I would skip Re4 and Mp.Because I have never played Re4 and never could have gotten ino Mp games.

Wow. This question is actually more trouble to answer than I thought.

At first, I was going to say Tales of Symphonia, because of my countless gameplay hours on it, but then I changed my mind. ToS just doesn't retain it's "Nintendo" stamp quite as well as Metroid Prime, as mentioned numerous times in this topic. In the same league as MP are Super Mario Sunshine, RE4, and SSBM.

Taking it to the lower level, in comes games like ToS, Wind Waker, and Pikmin.

I'd also like to mention Gladius for being an incredible strategy game with a slew of RPG elements. Sadly, it's not fitting for the Gamecube's throne because it was released for XBOX and PS2 as well.

Polls like these are always going to favour the adventure game because they are so epic and full of characterisation and variety. Thus the perfectly formed Luigi's Mansion and 1080 Avalanche will not win no matter how beautiful they are. But I am still going to vote for an epic adventure and one with little characterisation: Metroid Prime. I wouldn't place the sequel even in my top 10 Cube games but the first game was a masterpiece of level design, mood, sound and the animation of the morph was sublime.

Special mention to the Resident Evil remake (I am much fonder of it than RE4), Paper Mario:TTYD, Beyond good and evil and The Wind Waker.

Twilight princess came in a little late in the consoles lifetime to be a really defining game for the console... I'd put my money on either Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 1, or Super Smash Brothers Melee.

In my opinion, Super Smash Brothers Melee is not only the best Gamecube game, but I can only think of one other game I liked more: Ocarina of Time. I still play SSBM, at least 5 hours a week, and it remains Nintendo's best multiplayer game. In a close second, Resident Evil 4 is awsome, but it was multi platform, so it cant be the best GAMECUBE game.
